00:01:43Hello. How are you?
00:01:43Good. How are y'all?
00:01:44Good. How are y'all?
00:01:44Oh my gosh, you are a wake-up call.
00:01:46Yes.
00:01:46Oh, that's good. That's good. Who are you?
00:01:49I am Makaya Mustafor. I am 24 years old and I am from Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
00:01:54Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
00:01:55Oh my God, your voice is already filling up the room.
00:01:59They can hear you all the way from Pine Bluff.
00:02:01I know. That's what I want.
00:02:03And what do you do in Pine Bluff?
00:02:04So I am an assistant branch manager for a bank there in my hometown.
00:02:08I got you.
00:02:08And I also do singing on the side.
00:02:11I just love you.
00:02:13Morning, morning, morning, morning.
00:02:15Good morning.
00:02:17Morning.
00:02:18Thanks for calling us in this bank. I'm Makaya speaking.
00:02:20Do you have the blue bag that...
00:02:22If somebody robs the bank, you can put the blue paint in the bag and it blows up on them?
00:02:25I know. I wish I did.
00:02:28All I have is like bait money that has a tracker in it. I'll give that to them that way
00:02:32I can track them.
00:02:33The bait money.
00:02:34Yes, the bait money.
00:02:37I have a lot of fun at work. Fun is what makes the day go by.
00:02:41If we can't have fun, then I don't want to work with you.
00:02:44Hey, I wonder if my wife has bait money on me.
00:02:47Uh-oh.
00:02:48Anyway.
00:02:49Now he's worried.
00:02:50Where do you do all your singing?
00:02:51So I sing around my town and I also grew up singing in church.
00:02:54So I sing in church every Sunday with my family.
00:02:57So this whole family is a singing family, yeah?
00:03:00We have the same. There's a difference in singing and singing.
00:03:04And we believe she can sing.
00:03:06She can sing.
00:03:07Oh, you can't sing?
00:03:08No, we can't sing.
00:03:09What about you?
00:03:10I sing and I play the drums.
00:03:12Oh, so you got it all going on there.
00:03:14Okay.
00:03:14Something like that.
00:03:15He can sing.
00:03:16He can sing?
00:03:17He can sing.
00:03:18Never met a man quite like you.
00:03:26Doing all you can, making my dreams come true.
00:03:35You got the charm.
00:03:38You simply disarm me every time.
00:03:44As long as you drive, I'm along for the ride your way.
00:03:52You said it before, there won't be a door that's close to us.
00:04:01Putting all my trust in you.
00:04:05Cause you, you'll always be true.
00:04:10Oh, I never could have known that this would be.
00:04:17Oh, he's gone.
00:04:19Oh, you, you alone, yeah, yeah.
00:04:24Out for me.
00:04:27Uh.
00:04:28I know you're the best.
00:04:31You passed every test.
00:04:33It's almost too good to be true.
00:04:36You're the perfect man for me.
00:04:40You're the perfect man for me.
00:04:44I love you and you.
00:04:49I love you.
00:04:54Woo!
00:04:55Woo!
00:04:58It's good.
00:04:59Oh, thank you.
00:05:00Thank y'all.
00:05:01Okay, so, wow.
00:05:02My cheeks, since you walked in, my cheeks have been smiling the whole time.
00:05:07You light up the room.
00:05:08Your energy is just like, it's the energy, right?
00:05:13It's the energy.
00:05:14It's, I don't even think she still knows how great it is.
00:05:17I mean, like there's still more.
00:05:19I didn't miss a note.
00:05:20So good.
00:05:21Oh.
00:05:21So strong and in control of everything.
00:05:24Oh.
00:05:25Easily the strongest voice we've heard so far.
00:05:30Oh, wow.
00:05:31This is, you, you are meant to be here.
00:05:34Right now.
00:05:38Wow.
00:05:38We pray for the stand out.
00:05:41We pray for the one who's gonna kinda put the pressure on everybody else.
00:05:45Set the curve.
00:05:47Yes.
00:05:47Who's gonna lead the class?
00:05:49You understand me?

00:08:54We love him, Hollywood!
00:09:01You might be my favorite person that's walked through those doors.
00:09:05I think you're a racehorse, man.
00:09:08I love what you do.
00:09:09You're crazy talented, crazy unbelievable.
00:09:11If we say no to him, what are we doing here?
00:09:14Yeah, yeah.
00:09:14Boom!
00:09:16I have an announcement.
00:09:17Hey, yay!
00:09:20It was just...
00:09:22You can hallow the bad boys any day of the week.
00:09:25I don't think we've seen a star, star, star like you yet.
00:09:34I wonder, do we have any valedictorians in this class?
00:09:37Where did you rank in your class, Carrie?
00:09:39I was salutatorian.
00:09:41But the only reason I wasn't valedictorian is because two of the classes I needed were at the same time.
00:09:48So you could have been it.
00:09:50Yeah.
00:09:50And I remember talking to the counselor like, this isn't fair.
00:09:54What were you?
00:09:55I was not in the running.
00:09:57You didn't qualify.
00:09:59I was known back then as Lionel who?
00:10:03Then he knows I was in the class.
00:10:06Oh, God.
00:10:08How are you feeling?
00:10:09Good.
00:10:09I'm excited.
00:10:10I'm nervous.
00:10:10Happy to be here.
00:10:11Finally here.
00:10:12Oh, it says idol.
00:10:14Today's the day.
00:10:17Feels incredible to have my family here because they definitely shaped me into the young one I am today.
00:10:22And I don't know who I'd be without them.
00:10:25Love you so much.
00:10:26I've just been trying to think all the positive thoughts, manifest all the things.
00:10:30But the fact it's all today, I think it's kind of stressed me out a little.
00:10:34Oh, my gosh. I don't know why I'm so nervous. I'm sorry.
00:10:38Come on in.
00:10:39Hello.
00:10:39How are you?
00:10:40Good. Thanks. How are you guys doing?
00:10:42The sunshine yellow. We're doing fine.
00:10:45Tell us who you are. Where are you from?
00:10:46My name is Ruby Ray. I'm 16 years old and I'm from Pacific Palisades, California.
00:10:50What are you going to sing for us?
00:10:51I'm singing Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo.
00:10:54Very good. Let's hear it.
00:11:03I hate to give the satisfaction asking how you doing now.
00:11:07How's the castle built off people you pretend to care about?
00:11:11Just what you wanted.
00:11:12Look at you, cool guy. You got it.
00:11:17I see the parties and the diamonds sometimes when I close my eyes.
00:11:20Six months of torture you sold to some forbidden paradise.
00:11:24I loved you truly.
00:11:26Gotta laugh at this stupidity.
00:11:29I made some real big mistakes.
00:11:32You made the worst one look fine.
00:11:35I should have known it was strange.
00:11:39You only come out at night.
00:11:42I used to think I was smart.
00:11:45You made me look so naive the way you sold me for parts.
00:11:52As you sunk your teeth into me.
00:11:56Oh, bloodsucker.
00:11:58Dream crusher.
00:12:00Bleeding me dry like a damn vampire.
00:12:06You said it was true love, but wouldn't that be hard?
00:12:10You can't love anyone cause that would mean you had a heart.
00:12:13I tried to help you out.
00:12:15Now I know that I can.
00:12:17Cause all you think's the kind of thing I'll never understand.
00:12:24I made some real big mistakes.
00:12:28You made the worst one look fine.
00:12:31I should have known it was strange.
00:12:34You only come out at night.
00:12:37I used to think I was smart.
00:12:41You made me look so naive the way you sold me for parts.
00:12:47You stuck your teeth into me.
00:12:49You came out.
00:12:50Oh, wow.
00:12:54Blind sucker.
00:12:56Dream crusher.
00:12:59Leading me dry like a damn vampire.
00:13:18I am so happy for us.
00:13:22I am so happy for you.
00:13:24Wow.
00:13:26That was right on the money.
00:13:30Thank you so much.
00:13:31If there were a thousand things on the list to check, I think you checked them all.
00:13:36I mean, I don't think we've seen a star, star, star like you yet.
00:13:40Really, really incredible.
00:13:43Your breath control is quite amazing.
00:13:47There was one point and you just kept going.
00:13:49And I'm like, when is she going to breathe?
00:13:53I'm just curious to know, what drove you to be here?
00:13:56Performing is my favorite thing ever.
00:13:58And I'm also here, really, for my community, the Palisades.
00:14:03We need a win after such a hard year for everyone.
00:14:06And I'm just, yeah, here singing for my family and my community.
00:14:11In January of 2025, there was a wildfire that destroyed a lot of our community.
00:14:19So much of our community burnt, like my preschool, the first theater I ever performed in, the home that I
00:14:27lived in until I was five, my childhood best friend's homes.
00:14:38Um, it was a really, it's been really hard that I'm seeing the town that I grew up in completely
00:14:44gone.
00:14:44Nothing for my love for you.
00:14:47After the fires, it was really hard to just find joy in the little things.
00:14:51But it's taught me a lot.
00:14:53It's taught me when everyone comes together, it can be so strong.
00:14:57Well, sorry for all of that.
00:14:58I know the pain that that community is going through.
00:15:01And to have such a bright spot like you to come in and represent is fantastic.
00:15:07I want to vote.
00:15:09Please, Luke, Luke, calm down.
00:15:11I want to vote.
00:15:11Calm down.
00:15:12Talk about it.
00:15:13What do you want to do, Lionel?
00:15:14I want to vote.
00:15:15Okay.
00:15:16It's a yes.
00:15:17Big old yes.
00:15:18Big old yes.
00:15:19Luke.
00:15:20As big as a yes can sound.
00:15:23This was a yes.
00:15:23Of course it was a yes.
00:15:24Are you kidding me?
00:15:26That was fantastic.
00:15:27Come on down here.
00:15:28You're going to Hollywood week.
00:15:30Oh my gosh.
00:15:30Go out and celebrate.
00:15:34Oh my gosh.
00:15:38This golden ticket was 100% for my family and my community in the Palisades.
00:15:43This has definitely been one of the most challenging years, but I've learned that I can keep powering
00:15:48through and the light will keep on shining.
00:15:50Hollywood week is upon you.
00:15:54That's a definite top tenner.
00:15:58That's a different kind of 16.
00:16:00I agree.
00:16:02Now that's a different kind of 16 year old.
00:16:04Wow.
00:16:04I will carry no thing but my love for you.
00:16:11Carrie Underwood named the highest rated R.I.A.A. certified female country artist of
00:16:19all time.
00:16:21Hi.
00:16:23Way to go.
00:16:25Way to go.
00:16:28Congratulations to our wonderful co-judge.
00:16:32Make our judging.
00:16:33I love it.
00:16:33You beat everybody.
00:16:34You slaved them.
00:16:35How does that make you feel?
00:16:36I like winning.
00:16:39Carrie Underwood is literally my favorite singer of all time since I was five and I saw her on
00:16:45American Idol.
00:16:45The performer that I was up to is Carrie Underwood.
00:16:48I like to love her and if I see her and meet her, I might pass out.
00:16:55Hi.
00:16:55Hello.
00:16:56Who are you?
00:16:57My name is Cameron Palmer and I'm 25 and I'm from Florida, but I've lived here for six
00:17:03years, so I actually dressed up as you for Halloween after you won Idol.
00:17:08I was five years old.
00:17:10My mom is awesome.
00:17:12She sent a photo to you and I got a little postcard back.
00:17:15It's dated December 2006.
00:17:18Wow.
00:17:18And I thought I'd bring it now, so hopefully it's good luck.
00:17:22Hopefully.
00:17:23I love you so much.
00:17:25What are you going to sing today?
00:17:26Home Sweet Home by Motley Crue.
00:17:29Wow.
00:17:29Wow.
00:17:29You're already making Carrie happy.
00:17:32What just happened?
00:17:40You know I'm a dreamer, but my heart's of gold.
00:17:48To run away high, so when you come home low, I'm on my way.
00:17:56I'm on my way, home sweet home.
00:18:04Tonight, tonight, I'm on my way.
00:18:10I'm on my way, home sweet home.
00:18:21All righty.
00:18:23Cameron, you're very comfortable in playing and singing and emoting, which is really refreshing.
00:18:31You've got a nice voice, but I just don't know if it's all the way there yet for Idol.
00:18:36I'm trying to place you in a setting where seven songs in, is the house going to come down.
00:18:43I'm still not quite clear on that element of it.
00:18:48Yeah.
00:18:50It's going to be a no, but it's a real optimistic no.
00:18:53Okay.
00:18:54You have a good voice.
00:18:55I would love to hear more fire in there.
00:18:57It's just crazy.
00:18:58I know, I know.
00:18:59But if you can find that sass and push your voice, I think you deserve a chance to do that.
00:19:07So it's a yes for me.
00:19:08Cool.
00:19:10I'm going to work my butt off.
00:19:14I'm a no.
00:19:15Okay.
00:19:17Before I go, can I sing it with you?
00:19:19Let's do it.
00:19:20Okay.
00:19:20Oh, that's so cool that you would ask.
00:19:25Okay.
00:19:27Can you start or do I want to start?
00:19:29Did y'all plan this?
00:19:30No!
00:19:33All right, I'll go.
00:19:34Okay.
00:19:37You know I'm a dreamer, but my heart's a gold.
00:19:45I had to run away high, so I wouldn't come home more.
00:19:50I was hoping that the saying no part would get easier.
00:19:57And it did not.
00:19:59It's a no for me.
00:20:01And I was like 15 years old, and I had a chance, and it didn't work out.
00:20:08And if it had, it would have been the worst thing that had ever happened to me.
00:20:11So just keep at it, girlfriend.
00:20:15I don't want to BS these kids.
00:20:17I don't want to fluff them.
00:20:18You know, I want to make sure they understand they're not ready yet.
00:20:22I would really like to see you spend more time working on your vocals.
00:20:27Yeah, it's a no for me.
00:20:30It's a no for me, bud.
00:20:31Thank you for being here.
00:20:33Thank you, man.
00:20:35It was a no.
00:20:36You always just want to really reassure them that it's not their time yet.
00:20:43I'm going to give you an encouraging no.
00:20:44I want to push you, and I want you to find some fire in there.
00:20:49And for them to go continue their path in the music business.
00:20:52Sweet home Tonight, tonight, I'm on my way
00:21:02I'm on my way
00:21:07Sweet home
00:21:10There you go.
00:21:11It was like one of the best moments of my life.
00:21:15Wow, they rehearsed that somewhere.
00:21:18They did, guys.
00:21:20I'm on my way
00:21:23I'm on my way
00:21:25I finally sang that piece of pepper out of my throat.
00:21:28Oh, God.
00:21:29Luke, be careful.
00:21:32No.
00:21:34Yeah.
00:21:35It's okay.
00:21:35I got to sing with Carrie.
00:21:37You guys are heartless.
00:21:38We are not heartless.
00:21:39We are heartless.
00:21:40I'm 1,000% going to keep singing.
00:21:42It's my whole life.
00:21:43It's what I believe I was put on this earth to do,
00:21:45and I'm going to keep doing it.
00:21:48All right.
00:21:48I'm on my way
00:21:51I'm on my way
00:21:53Home sweet home
00:22:00My name is Michael Garner.
00:22:01I'm from Palestine, Arkansas,
00:22:03and I'm a sophomore in high school.
00:22:04Hey, y'all.
00:22:05What's up?
00:22:06All right.
00:22:06Hey.
00:22:07Gosh, how old are you?
00:22:08I'm 16 years old.
00:22:10That's great.
00:22:11Days of my youth.
00:22:12When I found out I was going to be able to audition,
00:22:15I started busting out crying.
00:22:16Me and my mom and my dad.
00:22:18We're going to give you a shot.
00:22:19Are you serious?
00:22:20Yes, I am serious.
00:22:21Oh, my God.
00:22:22I feel like this audition could definitely change my lives and my family's lives.
00:22:26With your own law, wait.
00:22:29He's going to do great.
00:22:31We all believe in him.
00:22:32We're behind you.
00:22:34We love you.
00:22:35I've watched Idol with my family for a long time.
00:22:40This has always been mine and their dream.
00:22:42I always said that I was going to be on there someday, and here I am.
00:22:46But what do you do in Arkansas other than music?
00:22:49You know, deer hunt, duck hunt.
00:22:51The only thing there really is in Arkansas is football games and back roads, you know.
00:22:54A little bit nervous going in there?
00:22:55Yeah.
00:22:56I think so.
00:22:56This is the biggest stage he's ever been on runs.
00:22:58It's a big one.
00:22:59Yeah.
00:23:00What kind of music are you into?
00:23:01Country.
00:23:02All right.
00:23:02This man says what he says, and he says what he says.
00:23:06I like it.
00:23:06Man, a few words.
00:23:07What are you going to sing?
00:23:08I'm going to sing I'm Still Fine by The Red Clay Strays.
00:23:10Perfect.
00:23:11All right.
00:23:11Let's hear it.
00:23:15I'm on display.
00:23:18I've lost my way.
00:23:22Oh, God, I pray.
00:23:25Let this pass over.
00:23:29I lost the note.
00:23:56God's not giving me up.
00:23:58No, I'm just fine.
00:24:01It's just a matter of time.
00:24:05No, I can't feel my sadness.
00:24:10I know that it should be there.
00:24:13Baby, I'm just too tired to care.
00:24:16Because I'm still fine.
00:24:22All right.
00:24:28Where's he going?
00:24:29Boom.
00:24:30Boom.
00:24:31There you go.
00:24:32Boom.
00:24:33I wish you were like 20 years old.
00:24:36I mean, I believe I'm ready.
00:24:38You know, I'm willing to give you everything I got.
00:24:40Yeah, you are.
00:24:41You're really good.
00:24:42Yeah, you are.
00:24:42Whatever happens today, you're on the right path.
00:24:45Yes, ma'am.
00:24:46What you do with your voice is definitely beyond 16.
00:24:50Like, I feel like you have a control and a composure about yourself.
00:24:54I think I'm going to be wrestling over here.
00:24:58I think your opening was just nerves.
00:25:01Um, that look has not caught up to that matured voice.
00:25:06I'll have to think about this while Luke is talking to you.
00:25:09If we say no to him, what are we doing here?
00:25:12Yeah, yeah.
00:25:12I know what you're saying.
00:25:13In my opinion.
00:25:14I mean, I know he's young, but we're all saying that he sings great.
00:25:21Oh, she's just playing guitar great, and he's singing pretty daggone good.
00:25:26So, I look at you, and I see my son, and I would not throw him in the middle of
00:25:35it where you are at 16.
00:25:38So, that's where I'm coming from.
00:25:42A no for me.
00:25:46What do we do with this young prodigy?
00:25:54It's a yes for me.
00:25:56Nice.
00:25:57Um.
00:26:06Tears.
00:26:07Tickets.
00:26:11Congratulations.
00:26:12Come over here.
00:26:13You're a young man.
00:26:13Was that terrifying?
00:26:15I mean, playing in front of him, yeah, a little bit.
00:26:18We did it.
00:26:18We're going to Hollywood week.
00:26:20Let's go.
00:26:21He's going to do Justin Bieber.
00:26:22That scares the crap out of me.
00:26:23Listen.
00:26:24Listen.
00:26:25Listen, you're right.
00:26:26All I can think about is Justin Timberlake.
00:26:33You can't take the mama.
00:26:35You can't take the mama out of me.
00:26:37Since when do you have a heart and you're a mother?
00:26:42Miss Carrie, I just want to say, I'm going to prove to you that I have what it takes.
00:26:54It's been a good day.
00:26:57Hello, hello.
00:26:58Hey.
00:27:00Tell us all about yourself.
00:27:02My name is Sheldon Riley.
00:27:04I'm 26 years old from Melbourne, Australia.
00:27:07Melbourne.
00:27:08Well, what you doing here?
00:27:10American Idol, huh?
00:27:11You're crazy.
00:27:16I wanted to do music since I was a really young kid.
00:27:19When I was maybe about 15 years old, I sung at my school.
00:27:24And I remember that first applause.
00:27:26I was like, yeah, this is what I want to do.
00:27:27I love the way it made me feel.
00:27:29I love the way that it made me feel noticed.
00:27:32About 10 years ago, I auditioned for a big TV show back in Australia.
00:27:37It's my big moment.
00:27:39And I sung my song.
00:27:42And they said it wasn't quite enough.
00:27:45Just you singing, it's not enough.
00:27:50That experience made me doubt myself.
00:27:52It made me feel I had to play a character just to be seen.
00:27:58I kind of created this character that dressed up like crazy,
00:28:02the most avant-garde, high fashion, crystals and diamonds.
00:28:05And it was the thing that made people see me.
00:28:07You'll be my resolution.
00:28:09It just kind of took off.
00:28:11I had opportunities like crazy, not just Australia, but the entire world.
00:28:15Courageous love, no illusion.
00:28:18I've been on every TV show competition known to men.
00:28:22I've done it all.
00:28:22And the art was just getting crazier and crazier and crazier.
00:28:26It almost felt like an addiction to be the most memorable person in the room.
00:28:31But I'd come home.
00:28:34I'd take the mask off, the makeup, the accessories, the everything.
00:28:37And I would hate the person that I saw in the mirror.
00:28:41Hated that version of me.
00:28:43I'm not you, not you.
00:28:47So I took two years off and remembered why that little kid got up on stage that first time.
00:28:55And this is the one show, there's no smoke, there's no mirrors, no nothing.
00:28:59And I said to myself, if I was going to come back into music, it would be here with just
00:29:02the piano and just me.
00:29:03And if you don't like it, you don't like it.
00:29:06I don't ever know if anyone's ever really going to want what I have to give without everything that I
00:29:11usually put on.
00:29:13That's a big part of why I'm here, just to remind myself that my voice is enough.
00:29:21Everybody's got their version of what you just said.
00:29:24You know, everybody's got their mask, whether it is something physical that they hide behind or this certain identity that
00:29:31they've created for themselves.
00:29:33And, you know, then of course you do worry that if I wasn't that, would anyone still love me?
00:29:40Yeah.
00:29:40You're very relatable.
00:29:42What are you going to sing for us today?
00:29:45This is Brother by Matt Corby.
00:29:47It's an Australian singer.
00:29:48Yeah.
00:29:51All right.
00:30:11Somebody call out to your brother, he's calling out your name.
00:30:16Oh, hiding under the covers with no one else to blame
00:30:24Oh, you couldn't help out your own neighbor
00:30:29You couldn't tell it to his face
00:30:32You were messed up by the plague
00:30:38You're cowering the corner
00:30:40Confiding your father
00:30:42Let it out and say
00:30:47Even it passed away
00:30:56Wait there, pull yourself out of this state
00:31:02Did acknowledge you were a fake
00:31:08Here and from then you might just go
00:31:19Somebody call out to your brother
00:31:22He's calling out your name
00:31:29You couldn't help out your own neighbor
00:31:32You couldn't tell it to his face
00:31:35You were messed up by the plague
00:31:42Yeah
00:31:44Wow
00:31:49You're crazy talented, crazy unbelievable
00:31:52Thank you
00:31:53Don't know why you ever had to wear the mask
00:31:55Because you're an amazing looking person
00:31:57You being the loudest guy in the room
00:31:59You don't always have to be that
00:32:01Being the most dynamic singer in the room
00:32:03You don't have to be that
00:32:04It's okay to just peel a layer off
00:32:07But that was impressive
00:32:09Thank you
00:32:10You're an artist, man
00:32:11And you're authentic
00:32:12I love watching someone in their moment
00:32:17You have stage presence
00:32:20It's all there
00:32:22Accept you
00:32:24Embrace you
00:32:27I'm really glad you're here
00:32:29I'm really glad I'm here

00:33:10It was me

00:35:23When a girl walks in
00:35:26With an itty bitty waist
00:35:28And a round thing
00:35:30In your face
00:35:31You get sprung
00:35:33Wanna pull up tough
00:35:35Cause you noticed
00:35:36That butt was stuffed
00:35:39Deep in the jeans
00:35:41She's wearin'
00:35:42I'm hooked

00:36:32Luke, what do you think?
00:36:34Oh, Casanova.
00:36:36I think it's probably a stretch for American Idol,
00:36:40but I can appreciate your ministry.
00:36:42Yeah, thanks.
00:36:44Joy, humor.
00:36:46I love what you did.
00:36:48Honestly, when I tell you that.
00:36:50But unfortunately, this is a competition.
00:36:53Right.
00:36:53I don't want to let you guys vote.
00:36:57I'm in charge here.
00:36:58I like big butts and I cannot lie.
00:37:03I feel you, Carrie.
00:37:04I know what you're saying.
00:37:04I think we need you.
00:37:05I think you're a morale booster for all of us.
00:37:08I'm thinking of myself and my fellow judges
00:37:10and all the people that work on this show
00:37:12and all the joy you would bring as you go forth.
00:37:15So I'm going to give you a yes.
00:37:19All right.
00:37:21I'm going to give you a no.
00:37:24All right.

00:37:31I like big butts and I can't let lie.
00:37:34You other brothers.
00:37:36I never thought I would have Carrie Underwood fighting for me,
00:37:40but hey, I guess I'm just a cowboy Casanova.
00:37:43He's a class clown.
00:37:45A good time cowboy Casanova.
00:37:48It's one of her songs.
00:37:52We're going to check y'all's ears.
00:37:53This slice of Casanova cake is going to Hollywood week.
00:38:00I feel that some things just have to be pursued.
00:38:04No, this was, this was.
00:38:05That was great.
00:38:07I followed you, Carrie.
00:38:09Carrie, what is happening?
00:38:10What is happening?
00:38:12Hi.
00:38:12Welcome.
00:38:13Who do you listen to?
00:38:14Carrie, you've been like my vocal inspiration for as long as I can remember.
00:38:19Like cowboy Casanova just has a very special place in my heart.
00:38:22Can you kind of give us a little taste?
00:38:24Let's hope I remember the lyrics.
00:38:26I will help you.
00:38:26Yeah, she knows all the lyrics, so just look at her.
00:38:31He's a good time cowboy Casanova leaning up against the record machine.
00:38:40Look at her face.
00:38:41You've got to get some stank face going on.
00:38:43He's a devil in disguise, a snake with blue eyes and he only comes out of night.
00:38:47Oh my gosh, you're so good.
00:38:49I'm like fangirling.
00:38:50I can't believe this is happening.
00:38:51That was great.
00:38:52Come on in, guys.
00:38:53Come on, guys.
00:38:54There you go.
00:38:56This is my instrument for today.
00:38:58Love it.
00:38:58Well, you brought enough backup, I would say.
00:39:01Tell us who you are.
00:39:02And then, who are those people behind you?
00:39:05Well, my name is Kitty Tay.
00:39:07I'm 22 and I'm from Alvin, Arizona.
00:39:09And this is Mosaic Whisperers, my college acapella group.
00:39:12And I thought I'd share one of my songs with y'all with them as my instrument.
00:39:16Okay.
00:39:17What are you going to sing for us?
00:39:18We're going to sing Masterpiece by Jasmine Sullivan.
00:39:20Wow.
00:39:21Let's have it.
00:39:22We're going to sing Masterpiece by Jasmine Sullivan.
00:39:24My eyes ain't used to these rays.
00:39:27I'm feeling exposed.
00:39:31But I can't hide no more.
00:39:33I can't hide.
00:39:35As the sun shines on all of the glory.
00:39:38My flaws don't look so bad at all.
00:39:41What was I so afraid of?
00:39:46Every part of me is a vision of a portrait of Mona.
00:39:52Of Mona Lisa.
00:39:56Every part of me is beautiful.
00:40:00And I'll finally see.
00:40:03I'm a work of art.
00:40:05But I'm a masterpiece.
00:40:08Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
00:40:15oh, oh, oh.
00:40:18Wow.
00:40:19Wow.
00:40:20That was amazing.
00:40:21That was amazing.
00:40:22Thank you so much.
00:40:23I want to tell you I really enjoyed it.
00:40:28You guys.
00:40:28Yeah, Lionel.
00:40:29Yeah, they had that whoa.
00:40:33Thank you so much.
00:40:35Carrie?
00:40:36Very sweet.
00:40:37I feel like you were so sweet and smiley.
00:40:41And I feel like it needed maybe a little more staying in character just a little bit.
00:40:46Okay.
00:40:46But you have a fabulous voice.
00:40:49Absolutely.
00:40:50Thank you so much.
00:40:51Luke?
00:40:51Yeah, I mean, surprisingly, you've got a nice country tone to it.
00:40:54That soulful country.
00:40:56Yeah, soulful country.
00:40:57And even on the song with the whole group, you really had some great vocal moments, too.
00:41:03Okay, thank you.
00:41:04Let's vote.
00:41:05Carrie?
00:41:05I would like to hear more.
00:41:07It's a yes for me.
00:41:10Oh, my gosh.
00:41:12Yes.
00:41:13Yay!
00:41:14It's a yes for me.
00:41:15Without a doubt.
00:41:18Welcome to the university.
00:41:20Oh, my gosh.
00:41:21You got it.
00:41:22Thank you so much.
00:41:23It's so nice to meet you.
00:41:24So nice to meet you.
00:41:25So good, you guys.
00:41:27Hey.
00:41:27Fantastic.
00:41:29Great support.
00:41:32That was amazing.
00:41:35Oh, my gosh.
00:41:35Can't really believe what just happened.
00:41:37But it's okay.
00:41:38Pinch me.
00:41:41She's going to Hollywood Week.
00:41:49I couldn't stop looking at her baby knees.
00:41:52Her what?
00:41:53Baby knees.
00:41:55When you have, like, a face in your knees.
00:41:58Oh, really?
00:41:59Do you know baby knees?
00:42:00I've never heard of that.
00:42:01I have baby knees.
00:42:02Oh, really?
00:42:03Right after Kate and William had their baby, George, right?
00:42:08Right.
00:42:09Yeah, George.
00:42:09Yeah.
00:42:10My knees were in a magazine, and it was like, Prince George's face is in Carrie Underwood's knees.
00:42:16And I was like, what the crap is going on with my knees?
00:42:20So I have baby faces in my knees, and I can make them sing, too.
00:42:25You can make them sing?
00:42:26It was like, bah, bah, bah, bah.
00:42:30I got to check my knees now.
00:42:32Like, that's crazy.
00:42:54Ah, there we are.
00:42:55Hello.
00:42:55How you doing?
00:42:56Good, how are you?
00:42:57Great.
00:42:58What's your name?
00:42:59Hannah Harper.
00:43:00Where are you from?
00:43:00Willow Springs, Missouri.
00:43:01Where did you get that dress?
00:43:04This was homemade.
00:43:05If this doesn't scream yee-haw, I don't know what will.
00:43:08What kind of music do you perform, listen to?
00:43:11I grew up doing bluegrass.
00:43:13My family had a bluegrass gospel band, went church to church, and sang at churches.
00:43:19I grew up in a super musical family.
00:43:21My dad worked at the lead mine for several years.
00:43:24One evening, he was just feeling like God was calling him to do something different with
00:43:27his life.
00:43:28So in 2009, my parents quit their jobs, and we bought a bus, and we went on the road as
00:43:32a family band.
00:43:34And we went on the road as a family band, and we went on the road as a family band.
00:43:35The tour bus was 40 foot long.
00:43:37It was bright red, and we lived on the bus for seven years.
00:43:41We just would go coast to coast and play banjos and sing for the Lord.
00:43:46It was a very unconventional upbringing, but I literally wouldn't trade it for anything
00:43:50in the world.
00:43:59We didn't come back into Missouri until 2016.
00:44:01We settled back down, and then I met my husband.
00:44:04We got married, and we found out we were pregnant with our first baby like four months after we
00:44:08got married.
00:44:10Oh, right in the noggin.
00:44:12I'm sorry, buddy.
00:44:14Then one turned to three really fast.
00:44:16With three boys, it comes a lot of chaos, and a lot of fun.
00:44:23Sorry, why are you standing up there?
00:44:29It's just hectic at all times.
00:44:35Let's eat some pizza, and then you can go take a nap.
00:44:37Do you want to go na-na?
00:44:38No!
00:44:39No!
00:44:40I'm trying out for the show just because I want the opportunity to give the boys the
00:44:43same life that I had growing up in a bigger way, if possible, to be able to sustain my
00:44:48family and do music full-time.
00:44:52I have two boys.
00:44:54They make things more interesting.
00:44:55Oh, for sure.
00:44:56Yeah.
00:44:57Mine's been screaming all day.
00:44:58Good.
00:44:58Yay!
00:44:59That's great.
00:45:00Love it.
00:45:00What are you going to sing for us today?
00:45:02I'm going to sing an original that I wrote called String Cheese.
00:45:05You're like my favorite person.
00:45:06You're wearing homemade clothes.
00:45:08You're singing songs called String Cheese.
00:45:10What's the song about?
00:45:11My youngest is one, and shortly after he was born, I had postpartum depression, and
00:45:15so I was sitting on my couch.
00:45:16I said I wasn't going to cry.
00:45:20I was sitting on my couch wallowing, and you have boys, you know, everybody wants to touch
00:45:27you, and I didn't want to be touched.
00:45:31And my youngest son, like, I was just having a pity party, praying that the Lord would
00:45:36calm my spirit, and my son kept coming up to me.
00:45:42He said, Mom, open this.
00:45:43Mom, open this.
00:45:43Open my cheese.
00:45:44I'm like, dude, leave me alone with the dadgum cheese.
00:45:46And I finally opened his cheese, and when I did, I realized that God had put me in that
00:45:50place, and that where I was in my house was the biggest ministry that I could ever have,
00:45:55and being a mom, so I gathered myself, and I got up off the couch, and I quit throwing
00:46:01a pity party, and I realized that that was exactly what I wanted, and I kind of kicked
00:46:07the postpartum depression in the butt, and I said, I ain't doing it.
00:46:10There you go.
00:46:10So I wrote this song called String Cheese.
00:46:14Do you need a second?
00:46:15I want to give you, like...
00:46:16Probably just give me one second.
00:46:19I can't cry and sing, so I don't want to put you in that position.
00:46:24That is a tough one.
00:46:25Here.
00:46:25Thank you so much.
00:46:34Ready?
00:46:35I think so.
00:46:47I warm my morning coffee up for the third time.
00:46:54Missed Rachel on the TV with their favorite nursery rhyme.
00:47:00Hot wheels and little people under my feet.
00:47:06Baby's crying.
00:47:07It's pure chaos, but I don't miss a beat.
00:47:12Always knew that a nine-to-five wouldn't suit me very good.
00:47:18But my hours are extended.
00:47:21That's just motherhood.
00:47:24I never knew this is what my twenties would look like.
00:47:30But they saved me before I had the chance to waste my life.
00:47:36One day I'll be alone with a hot, fresh cup of joe, wishing that someone would just drop
00:47:46me by.
00:47:48And I'll sit and reminisce on times that I sure miss.
00:47:55I've scattered toys and a baby on my hip.
00:47:59I thought finding peace in the quiet's what I wanted.
00:48:06But I'd do anything to go back to being needed.
00:48:12To those days I want to cry, run away and hide.
00:48:19But I'd worry about their every need.
00:48:23When I'm overwhelmed and touched out, they come climbing up on the couch, saying,
00:48:32Mama, can you open my strange cheeks?
00:48:37I smile because I know meeting their needs fills my soul.
00:48:44Being there, Mama, is who I'm meant to be.
00:48:53That's great.
00:48:54Do you have more questions?
00:48:55Oh.
00:48:57My turn.
00:49:00This pack is going quick.
00:49:02Yeah, but.
00:49:05Well, that's about the most relatable song I think I've ever heard.
00:49:12Hannah, great job.
00:49:15Great job.
00:49:15Just with that mountainous bluegrass sound that you have in there, I kept thinking like
00:49:22Casey Musgraves is in there.
00:49:24I kept thinking certainly Alison Krauss.
00:49:27Like a little dolly.
00:49:28A little dolly in there.
00:49:30And gosh, even if we got you to lean in more on it, fill the room a little more, you're
00:49:35going to be able to move some people.
00:49:36But great song.
00:49:37Way to really write the moment you're in.
00:49:40Yeah.
00:49:41I want you to use Dolly as the example of two things.
00:49:45One, her storytelling ability.
00:49:47And two, she has the ability to tell that story and then give us a lift.
00:49:52You've got the range.
00:49:54I would have loved to have found you just on one of those lines, just hold it for a minute.
00:49:59I was going up, but then I chickened out because I was crying.
00:50:02Yeah.
00:50:02It was hard to come from a tear.
00:50:04It is.
00:50:04You might be my favorite person that's walked through those doors in the past three days.
00:50:08You're my new best friend.
00:50:11You're gorgeous.
00:50:12Like you look famous already.
00:50:15I just think you have just a beautiful simplicity to your voice.
00:50:19You're one that I'm going to think about when we leave here.
00:50:22Like, I wonder what song she's going to sing next.
00:50:25And I feel like I'm going to be just rooting for you.
00:50:27I loved everything about everything you just did.
00:50:31Thank you so much.
00:50:32I mean, it's a yes.
00:50:32I'll go first.
00:50:33Is it a yes for me?
00:50:34I'll go second.
00:50:35Is it a yes for me?
00:50:36Yes for me.
00:50:37Heck yeah, brother.
00:50:39You get this.
00:50:40You are doing the Hollywood week.
00:50:41For the Hollywood week.
00:50:42It's nice to meet you.
00:50:43Nice to meet you, too.
00:50:44Oh my God, I'm chicken.
00:50:50Hearing Carrie say that I was one of her favorite people that has walked through the doors,
00:50:53I almost melted in my boots.
00:50:54That's the biggest compliment I've ever received.
00:50:56She was great.
00:50:58Goodness.
00:50:59It means a lot to me to get up there and stand and represent other moms and let them know
00:51:05that they're not alone and let them know that they can still chase their dreams with their
00:51:08little people.
00:51:09Some real juice on that one.
00:51:12Unassuming.
00:51:13Sweet.
00:51:14Sweet.
00:51:15Perfectly moldable into stardom.
00:51:23So is that what you want me to do here?
00:51:27Want to help me put it on the fridge?
00:51:31Good job.
00:51:50Have you seen the guy with pins and stuff?
00:51:55Is that one of your TikToks?
00:52:04I remember swearing off TikTok, and now I'm a TikToker.
00:52:11Is he down?
00:52:13Is he down?
00:52:17I'm addicted to TikTok.
00:52:19I'll just go on and say it if anybody wants to intervene.
00:52:24Oh, my God.
00:52:28Oh, my God.
00:52:35And now I'm actually scrolling, finding talent that somehow makes it in front of us judges.
00:52:42Well, tell us how you made it here.
00:52:44Somebody happened to see me.
00:52:46That's right.
00:52:48What's your dreams in music?
00:52:50I want to go from being a TikTok singer to a real singer, and I also really want a Birkin
00:52:55bag.
00:52:56Oh.
00:52:57I've been everywhere, man, looking for you, babe.
00:53:01Looking for you, babe.
00:53:03Searching for you, babe.
00:53:05But, Lord, I've had a lot of no's.
00:53:08I don't want to tell you no, because I feel like I'm responsible for bringing you here,
00:53:11but it's a no for me right now.
00:53:13Don't tell him I've gone crazy.
00:53:16It's going to be a no for me this trip.
00:53:18I agree.
00:53:19It's a no for me.
00:53:21Obviously, I'm learning that TikTok has filters on it to make you sound amazing.
00:53:26So, maybe I need to go find those filters and sing on them myself.
00:53:31All right.
00:53:32Tell the world how you arrived here.
00:53:34I had somebody message me, and they were like, hey, come on in.
00:53:36Well, I might have seen you on TikTok, but I must say, currently, I'm 0 for 2 on TikTok
00:53:43referrals.
00:53:44People know where this is going to be.
00:53:47Come on.
00:53:49I think I'm going to be okay.
00:53:51Yes, sir.
00:53:52Yes, sir.
00:53:52You think I ended the slump, Lionel?
00:53:54I fear you.
00:53:55You will now.
00:53:55Probably leave.
00:54:01Woo.
00:54:02What do you think, Carrie?
00:54:07I'm a yes.
00:54:10Lionel, congratulations, Luke.
00:54:13It's a yes for me.
00:54:15Hey, awesome.
00:54:17Yes.
00:54:18I'm one for three.
00:54:20There you go.
00:54:21Thank you guys so much.
00:54:24Mr. Luke Bryan, thank you so much for getting me here after seeing my TikTok.
00:54:30You did it.
00:54:31Finally.
00:54:32I was told that I saved Luke Bryan's career.
00:54:35And you totally.
00:54:36You redeemed yourself.
00:54:38All at the pop shop.
00:54:40Woo.
00:54:41Woo.
00:54:42Woo.
00:54:42Woo.
00:54:42Woo.
00:54:43Woo.
00:54:43Let's go.
00:54:44Oh, yeah.
00:54:45It's happening.
00:54:47You videoing?
00:54:47Oh, yeah.
00:54:49Oh, my gosh.
00:54:51Carmen, I'm so proud of you.
00:54:53Yay.
00:54:55Yay.
00:54:56Woo.
00:54:56Woo.
00:54:56Oh, my goodness.
00:54:59Hi, I'm Carmen Laurel Martin.
00:55:01I'm 20 years old.
00:55:02I'm from El Dorado Hills, California.
00:55:04And I'm here with my aunt, Brittany Bateman from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
00:55:10I'm so excited.
00:55:11She lives with me.
00:55:13You're on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
00:55:16Yes.
00:55:16So who is your nemesis, or is there not one?
00:55:19Are there many?
00:55:20I feel like you guys are going to be in next season as well.
00:55:22I just get this vibe about you.
00:55:24I think so, too.
00:55:24We're going to start some fights.
00:55:26I think on the show, she's definitely still her silly self.
00:55:30She's a little crazy, and I love it.
00:55:33Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
00:55:36I have an announcement.
00:55:37What about me?
00:55:38You guys, seriously.
00:55:40What about me?
00:55:42What about me?
00:55:45Woo.
00:55:47Brittany has always been a very big mentor to me.
00:55:50So get out there.
00:55:51Get in, Carmen.
00:55:52OK.
00:55:53She has her own spotlight.
00:55:55She's living out her dream.
00:55:56And that's why I'm here, too.
00:55:58She is music.
00:55:59I mean, she radiates music out of her pores.
00:56:03Look about it.
00:56:04It just explodes.
00:56:05Yeah.
00:56:05She bubbles in light.
00:56:07Yeah.
00:56:09Carmelita.
00:56:10That's my theme song.
00:56:12You go in there, and you brush it.
00:56:13My lovely Carmelita.

00:56:19That's the entrance.
00:56:21Carmelita.
00:56:23I really should do that.

00:57:27Okay.
00:57:27Do you guys want this?
00:57:29Yes.
00:57:29For good keeping?
00:57:30Oh, good keeping.
00:57:31Yes?
00:57:32Let's do it, Miss Carmen.
00:57:34Okay.
00:57:38I woke up with a headache today Cause I've got a mortgage due
00:57:47And an empty bed to make
00:57:54Baby, I bet you're happy now Probably found just someone new
00:58:03Who's got his life all figured out Girl, I thought it was love

00:58:45Like your range is really great.
00:58:47You're hitting some high notes in there.
00:58:50Yeah.
00:58:50But it would be great if you could put some oomph in there.
00:58:53Yeah.
00:58:53We actually might have something to sing together.
00:58:56Okay.
00:58:56Cool.
00:58:57Cool.
00:58:58Let's hear y'all do one.

01:00:07It was very present there.
01:00:08We just got to get you to cut loose a little bit.
01:00:11I think the piano is forcing you to be very proper.
01:00:14Oh, you should see me with a band.
01:00:15Well, we got to get you to the band.
01:00:18That's very true.
01:00:19That's very true.
01:00:21I think that the only way she's going to actually understand this
01:00:25thing called roughing up is to put her in a brawl.
01:00:28The only way to put you in a brawl is to say yes.
01:00:31So you can go to the next level and meet the rest of this crazy
01:00:34class and you'll understand what this means.
01:00:38Oh, yeah.
01:00:38Okay.
01:00:39So it's a yes for me.
01:00:40I think your voice has definitely earned you a yes,
01:00:44but I want to see some, some fire.
01:00:47I can show it.
01:00:48I kind of believe you can.
01:00:50Is it yes?

01:01:27will see me roar.
01:01:28I concur.
01:01:30She didn't seem villainous.

01:01:33Nice to meet you.
01:01:35Thank you for coming.
01:01:36Seriously, thank you.
01:01:37By the way, are you still dating Jared?
01:01:40Is that true?
01:01:41Is that real?
01:01:41I was always wondering.
01:01:45Lean on the end.
01:01:48When you're not strong, I'll be afraid.
01:01:52I'll help you carry on, for it won't be long till I'm gonna need somebody to lean on.
01:02:09I just might have a problem that you understand.
01:02:14We all need somebody to lean on.
01:02:20You just call me.
01:02:23You just call me.
01:02:26Yeah, you just call me.
01:02:29You just call me.

01:02:34All right.
01:02:35Woo!
01:02:36Oh!
01:02:37Thank you so much.
01:02:39I have never seen you just jump out of that chair.
01:02:42It made me happy.
01:02:42She was like, I was like, is she gonna rush the artist?
01:02:46I think it is because, you know, you did your own thing with it.
01:02:50It sounded fresh.
01:02:51And I feel like it was such a smart song choice.
01:02:55It was just, mwah!
01:02:58You know, I'm telling you, familiarity is everything.
01:03:01A big voice.
01:03:02Once you go to the kaboom, it's magnificent.
01:03:08You took that song that the world has heard a million times,
01:03:13and you made it very authentically you,
01:03:15which that says you're an artist in your own mind, in your own right.
01:03:20I appreciate it.
01:03:21Tonight, Shay, I'm a yay.
01:03:25I'm a yes.
01:03:26Yay.

01:03:32Okay.
01:03:33Thank you so much.
01:03:34Can I shake your hands?
01:03:35Oh, please.
01:03:36It was an absolute pleasure.
01:03:37The standing ovation from Carrie Underwood was insane.

01:04:07My name is Braden Rumfelt.
01:04:08I'm 22 years old, and I'm from Murphy, North Carolina.
01:04:10You still got it.
01:04:13Hey!
01:04:16Oh, no.
01:04:17When I was young, my life revolved around baseball.
01:04:21My twin brother, Kellen, and I played sports constantly.
01:04:26Dad was dead set on us becoming college athletes.
01:04:32Unfortunately, going into high school, I was starting to have knee pain in both of my legs.
01:04:36Tell me how to be in this world.
01:04:38Then I found out that I have a congenital issue.
01:04:42My legs are naturally in the wrong position.
01:04:46Tell me how to be in this world.
01:04:48I needed surgery.
01:04:49I needed two lower leg realignments.
01:04:53That put a stop to the dreams of becoming an athlete.
01:04:56Tell me how to be in this world.
01:04:59It was tough seeing everybody be able to get to do what I wanted to do.
01:05:04As I'm hurt, it kind of hit me like, wait, I feel better when I am singing.
01:05:10And my twin brother, Kellen, was there for me.
01:05:14He was kind of like my voice of encouragement.
01:05:19Growing up till now, I always felt that his talent is music, is singing.
01:05:24And I couldn't be more proud of Brayden because of everything that he's going through, where he's at now, pursuing
01:05:31his new dream.
01:05:32He's my hero.
01:05:35The only reason that I hadn't signed up for American Idol was because I was scared.
01:05:40This is my dream.
01:05:42I didn't know that I would get like a, you know, a chance like this.
01:05:45So this is, this is really awesome.
01:05:48What's up?
01:05:49Hey.

01:06:00Twin brother.
01:06:01Oh yeah.
01:06:01Did y'all grow up playing music together?
01:06:03We did.
01:06:04As long as I've been sentient, I've been singing.
01:06:07Good deal, good deal.
01:06:08What do you want to sing for us?

01:06:25Hate to admit it, but
01:06:29I've got a hard rush.
01:06:33It's slowing down.
01:06:36Yeah, I want to taste her lips.
01:06:40Yeah, cause they taste like you.
01:06:44I want to drown myself in a bottle of herb for you.
01:06:51I want her long blonde hair.
01:06:55I want her magic crush.
01:06:59Yeah, cause maybe then you'd want me just as much.
01:07:28I like that.
01:07:31I like that.
01:07:33I like that.
01:07:35I like that.
01:07:37You want a long blonde hair.

01:08:22And it made me happy
01:08:23I feel like you are very nervous
01:08:26I am
01:08:27Gotta loosen up
01:08:28Like I wanted to come out there and just like shake your arms
01:08:31And throw your vest across the room
01:08:34And I think you're a racehorse, man
01:08:36Don't you agree?
01:08:37I agree
01:08:37You have a top end to your voice
01:08:41It's not as high as Steve Perry
01:08:43But the texture when you get up there is so sweet, man
01:08:49Doesn't break
01:08:49No, it does not
01:08:51And we can wake the outside of you up
01:08:54To combine it with the inside of you, what's coming out

01:09:44Stand it, stand it over
01:09:46With the struggles that I've had over the years

01:10:10We've got a lot of memories together under our belt
01:10:13And I wouldn't be here without his help
01:10:16And, uh, I love this guy
01:10:18He's the best
01:10:18You're gonna make me cry, dude
01:10:20I'm going to Hollywood week
01:10:31An old cowpoke went riding out
01:10:33A dark and windy day
01:10:37Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
01:10:41When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed cows he saw
01:10:44Plowing through those ragged skies
01:10:48And up the cloudy draw
01:10:52Yippee-yi-yi-yi
01:10:56Yippee-yi-yi
01:11:00For this ghost riders in the sky
01:11:08Sorry, that was...
01:11:09There you go
01:11:10It happens
01:11:11Oh
01:11:11You know, Matthew
01:11:13I mean, right now you're just doing sing-along
01:11:16We're talking about lead singer, center stage, crowd screaming at you.
01:11:22I'm going to give you a passionate no because you're passionate about this business.
01:11:28I think that passion is going to take you a long way.
01:11:30Don't lose that spark, man.
01:11:33It's a no.
01:11:34It's a no today, but I'm not going to stop working.
01:11:36I'm not going to give up.
01:11:40I'm going to make the best of this moment.
01:11:42You have been on some amazing platforms.
01:11:47You've been with national recording artists, but today is your day.
01:11:53Hi.
01:11:54Come on in.
01:11:56What's your name?
01:11:57My name is Tiana Roberts.
01:11:59What brings you to us today?
01:12:02I'm just ready to get myself out there, take the risk.
01:12:06That's just kind of been my motto for the year.
01:12:08No risk, no story.
01:12:09No risk, no story.
01:12:11What's the deal with that?
01:12:12Well, last year I had a miscarriage.
01:12:16That moment made me realize that life is short, and I could just think of all the things that
01:12:21I didn't do because I was too scared.
01:12:23I decided that the risk was worth the sacrifice.
01:12:26So no risk, no story.
01:12:28So here I am.
01:12:29I like that.
01:12:31Very good.
01:12:32Well, what are you going to be singing for us?
01:12:34I'm going to be singing a hymn called Pass Me Not.
01:12:36Okay.
01:12:37Okay.
01:12:37Okay.
01:12:45Pass me not, O gentle Savior.
01:12:53Savior, hear my humble cry.
01:13:08While, while on others thou art falling.
01:13:17I'm calling, Savior, do, do not pass me, me by.
01:13:29I'm crying, Savior.
01:13:35Oh, Savior.
01:13:39Oh, Savior.
01:13:42Oh, Savior.
01:13:43Why don't you hear my awful cry?
01:13:55Why don't you hear my awful cry?
01:14:04I'm saying, Savior, do, do not pass me, me by.
01:14:12Oh, oh, oh, oh, do, do not pass me by.
01:14:37Thank you!
01:14:38Wow.
01:14:39You have an incredible voice.
01:14:42I feel like we've been waiting for you all day.
01:14:44Tell me about it.
01:14:46When you have a foundation and an instrument like you have,
01:14:49it's just a matter of what song would you like to sing.
01:14:52On this show, it's going to be challenging
01:14:53because you're going to cover everything from Disney songs
01:14:56all the way across to every event that ever happened in life
01:14:59in the music world.
01:15:00You can handle it with that voice any day of the week.
01:15:03I love what you did.
01:15:04Thank you so much.
01:15:05Well, great big voice.
01:15:07You just sang within your means.
01:15:09When I saw you going for the big note,
01:15:11I was like, uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh, she got it.
01:15:15All right, she saved it for the end.
01:15:17We love our gospel singers, but just get ready to branch out
01:15:20and get ready to do a lot of stuff.
01:15:22You made everything just seem very effortless.
01:15:25Your small notes were beautiful and clear and crisp.
01:15:29You kept things small, and then it grew,
01:15:30and by the end of it, you were just soaring.
01:15:33You are a really talented vocalist.
01:15:36It is a massive yes for me.
01:15:40Yes.
01:15:41It's a yes for me.
01:15:43You got three yeses.
01:15:45Ah!
01:15:46Okay.
01:15:49Thank you so much.
01:15:51Your girl did it.

01:15:58Ah!
01:15:58Ah!
01:15:58Ah!
01:15:58I don't even have words to describe what it felt like for them
01:16:02to say, we've been waiting for you, like, what?
01:16:07Star, star, star, star, star, star right here.
01:16:10Yeah!
01:16:11Ah!
01:16:11Ah!
01:16:11She's our winner.
01:16:13She will always be our winner.
01:16:14I'm proud of you.
01:16:16I'm so proud of you.
01:16:17Thank you, mama.
01:16:18I got my baby.
01:16:19It's a good job.
01:16:21You got your baby.
01:16:22You got your baby.
01:16:23You got your baby.
01:16:33Julian, do you remember this kid?
01:16:35Yes, I've thought about him a lot.
01:16:37Really, huh?
01:16:39Ah!
01:16:39Hey, guys.
01:16:41Hi.
01:16:41How are y'all?
01:16:42We're doing great.
01:16:43How are you guys?
01:16:44We're so happy to see you.
01:16:46We're happy to be here.
01:16:48One, two, one, two, three, four.
01:16:54My name is Julian Kalel Almanzan.
01:16:56I'm from El Paso, Texas, and I'm 19 years old.
01:17:01Last year, I'd audition.
01:17:03I had no idea what to expect.
01:17:05Obviously, I was terrified.
01:17:07When I talk about it with my sister,
01:17:09we both say that we kind of just blacked out
01:17:11and gave a performance of our lives, I guess.
01:17:17There's a hole in my chest.
01:17:22Knock me down, leave me to rest.
01:17:27Drown my thoughts with kerosene.
01:17:30I performed an original song called Surrender,
01:17:32which talks about the struggles of anxiety and depression.
01:17:36So I surrender.
01:17:38If his war did I have waged, I'll raise a flag.
01:17:43My fate is in his hands.
01:17:44I felt like I was at your show just now.
01:17:47Are you serious?
01:17:48Yeah, I did.
01:17:49Wow.
01:17:49It played like a record.
01:17:51He's a star.
01:17:52He's a star.
01:17:53Just a straight up, straight up star.
01:17:57I'll be gone without a sound
01:17:59when my heart fails me and I'm not around.
01:18:02Yes.
01:18:03Hallelujah, yes.
01:18:05Hallelujah.
01:18:05Come on, man.
01:18:05Come here.
01:18:07The things that the judges told me,
01:18:09I felt like my life was changing in that moment.
01:18:11He may win this thing.
01:18:13Woo!
01:18:14He literally might win it.
01:18:17Oh, I surrender.
01:18:17It was one of the greatest moments of my life.
01:18:20Oh, I surrender.
01:18:21I'm going to Hollywood.
01:18:22Oh, I surrender.
01:18:27Unfortunately, though, I was not able to continue forward.
01:18:31There were shared concerns about my abilities to balance a journey like American Idol and my mental health.
01:18:42I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression my freshman year of high school.
01:18:47But I had been struggling with those feelings for a big part of my life.
01:18:51I mean, through even elementary and middle school.
01:18:54He came up to us and said, I am not okay.
01:18:57There's something happening with me.
01:18:59I mean, it's a knife to your chest because you're thinking, you know, what's going on?
01:19:05What's happening?
01:19:06And he said, I'm sad all the time.
01:19:11For me, anxiety is just like a big wave crashing on you and you just drown.
01:19:20I was pushing the value of my life.
01:19:24You have to look in the mirror and recognize that mental health professionals need to get involved.
01:19:31And that there's no shame in that.
01:19:39Music is my lifeline.
01:19:42It's what keeps me grounded.
01:19:45I had so much to smile about with my audition.
01:19:48And I just knew, like, I really regretted if I didn't give this another shot.
01:19:52I'm just hoping that whatever I'm doing just reflects the message of just not giving up.
01:19:58And most importantly, to not be defined by your struggles, but by your strengths.
01:20:04I choke up just thinking about it because I'm very lucky to be here.
01:20:08You know, life is a gift.
01:20:11For you to come back out here to try this, we are very happy and proud of you.
01:20:16We are so happy to be here. Thank you so much.
01:20:18So, what are you going to do for us?
01:20:20The song today is called Long Guitar.
01:20:22I wrote it at a very dark time in my life where I was at a crossroads of deciding whether
01:20:27or not to give up or to keep going.
01:20:29Huh.
01:20:29And found that, you know, it's as simple as just stay one more day.
01:20:34That's the message.
01:20:36It's been rough.
01:20:37We've had some rough years.
01:20:39And this song in particular, it's suicide prevention, basically.
01:20:52What do you see when you look at me?
01:20:57The blessings that I'm letting go, Lord, you forgive so easily.
01:21:02It's getting harder to find peace.
01:21:07Get the chance to grow old, but I'm not the man that I should.
01:21:13Never felt travel, hell and die every night.
01:21:17Too far gone for prayer.
01:21:19Just a boy afraid to die.
01:21:26Oh, heartache stare, words unspoken, the burden of my flaws.
01:21:32An empty chair, a family broken, the pain is all I cause.
01:21:37I should stay.
01:21:39I should stay.
01:21:42You walk the daydream of thoughts unholy, damn near giving up.
01:21:47Hug your mama till there's just enough to see that old sunrise.
01:21:56I should stay.
01:21:59I should stay.
01:22:02I should stay.
01:22:02Oh, I'll stitch the bones and learn to love these remarks along the way.
01:22:07Oh, I should stay.
01:22:08Lord, let me stay.
01:22:12I got too much to give.
01:22:14I gotta love you.
01:22:16I say don't want to make my old man cry
01:22:19Leave my mama screaming why
01:22:21Yes, I'm in this bleeding heart
01:22:24Lighthead in my way
01:22:28To a boy alone in the suffering
01:22:31Thinking no one understands
01:22:33If it's strength that you need
01:22:36You don't have to be a man
01:22:45Awesome, thank you.
01:22:47Ronald, what you think?
01:22:48Welcome back.
01:22:50Welcome back.
01:22:52I'm going to leave you with some words
01:22:53that I keep repeating over and over again
01:22:56and I'm going to pass it on to you.
01:22:58You were born enough.
01:23:00I haven't seen too many years.
01:23:01Come on, Julian.
01:23:03My God.
01:23:04But I have feared and I have loved.
01:23:06Everything about you is just honest
01:23:09and you organize your thoughts
01:23:12and your feelings into song
01:23:13in a way that comes across so real.
01:23:18That is something that's needed.
01:23:20Very much.
01:23:21Yeah, man, you got the magic.
01:23:30I think that you're incredible.
01:23:32I think you have all the skills and tools
01:23:34of a great singer.
01:23:35We're so glad you're back
01:23:36and we'll just have fun with this thing.
01:23:38How about that?
01:23:39Absolutely.
01:23:44What do you think, Lionel?
01:23:48It's a yes for me.
01:23:50Yes for me.
01:23:51Yes for me.
01:23:53Let's go.
01:23:54Thank you guys.
01:23:55Thank you so much.
01:23:57Welcome to Hollywood Week, friend.
01:23:58We're back.
01:23:59My parents.
01:23:59So good to me.
01:24:00You did it, Nico.
01:24:02Carissa.
01:24:03Carissa.
01:24:05You did it, Nico.
01:24:06Congratulations.
01:24:11I just felt understood.
01:24:12I felt seen for the artist that I try to be.
01:24:15I want to spread my message.
01:24:18You are loved and everyone is born enough.
01:24:21Everyone is, in fact, born enough.
01:24:29You're one of my absolute favorites.
01:24:32God bless you with an instrument.
01:24:34The first time I've had full body chills the whole time.
01:24:37Oh, my God.
01:24:40You can't learn what you just did.
01:24:42You are a star.
01:24:46No way!
01:24:48Hello.
01:24:49Anybody want to sing for us?
01:24:50Oh, man.
01:24:51I'm sorry.
01:24:52You're going to Hollywood Week.
01:24:54Oh, yeah!
