00:25Hi everybody, welcome to Cricket on 5.
00:27What an interesting week this has been for sport in this country in general.
00:32The rugby players are about to begin their World Cup campaign in New Zealand.
00:36The footballers came a step closer to qualifying for the European Championships,
00:40courtesy of a 1-0 win against Wales.
00:42They were encouraging performance from some of the athletes in the World Championships.
00:46And the cricketers are here at the Oval today on a good day, a nice forecast.
00:51It's pretty humid, I'd say. I'd expect them all to swing around a bit.
00:55They're playing India. They're 1-0 up in the series already.
00:58Still three matches to play. One today, one at Lords, and then the final one at Cardiff.
01:04Alistair Cook has won the toss. He's chosen to bowl first, I think because of this humidity.
01:08And because of quite a juicy looking pitch, there's plenty of grass on it.
01:12Unusual for the Oval. I'd expect England seamers to get plenty out of it.
01:16England have got Jonathan Trott back in the side.
01:18But as far as the crowd are concerned, I guess it's a blow to them that the batting order still
01:22misses Kevin Peterson and Owen Morgan.
01:25India have made a couple of changes to give themselves more flexibility.
01:29Ravinder Jadeja is in their side, along with R.P. Singh.
01:33MS Dhoni knows that India have got to play a whole lot better.
01:36Let's focus on the action now and see what England can make of this new ball opportunity.
01:44Jimmy Anderson, the ball, the first ball.
01:47Just a little bit of swing there, nicely played from Parteef Patel.
01:52They expect to see lots of movement. There's moisture in the pitch.
01:55There's plenty of grass on the wicket.
01:58The likes of Jimmy Anderson will look forward to this.
02:02It'll be a good examination of Ajinka Rouhani, actually, because we've seen him play some purposeful shots and show good
02:10judgment.
02:10But this might be a bit more of an examination of his technique.
02:14Two slips in place for Anderson.
02:16And the ball just might jag around a bit on this surface.
02:26There they go on the first wicket.
02:28Beautifully ball from Jimmy Anderson.
02:31Nice, simple catch for Jonathan Trott.
02:38And that was just the perfect ball.
02:41In fact, just a slightly tentative defensive shot.
02:43He's been playing some excellent innings on pretty good pitches.
02:47But as I said, possibly this little pitch here, just a bit more of an examination.
02:52He's failed it, Rouhani.
02:53He's gone for a duck and it's one for one.
02:59Well, Rahul Dravid, he scored a wonderful hundred on this ground in the test match only a few weeks ago.
03:04But this is a different pitch.
03:06Lots more grass.
03:09Good movement from Jimmy Anderson.
03:11A perfect start for him.
03:13Good lengths.
03:19Quality start from England.
03:21Anderson at one end, Breslin at the other.
03:23Right on the money.
03:30Ah, he's going for that short ball.
03:35Trying to show a little bit of intent.
03:37I don't think it's that kind of pitch.
03:39Indian batsmen are going to have to be very watchful to play an old school time of one day innings
03:45and keep wickets in hand.
03:53Great from Jimmy Anderson.
03:55Just starting to get the ball to come back into.
03:57Rahul Dravid has taken the odd ball away.
03:59There's plenty out there for the bowlers.
04:02India 9-4-1 after 4.5 overs.
04:05Great start by England.
04:09Oh, this is tight.
04:11Anderson's quick.
04:12Out.
04:13Brilliant from Jimmy Anderson.
04:18I think Dravid's going to walk for that.
04:20I think he knows he's out.
04:23And it's just a...
04:25He was very slow starting off because the ball was hit quite close to him at non-striker.
04:30Brilliant pick-up and throw by Anderson.
04:33What an all-round cricketer he is.
04:34And he's beaten Dravid by perhaps six inches to a foot there.
04:39Comfortably.
04:39Not much real stretching from Dravid.
04:41The dive would have been worthwhile, Michael.
04:43Absolutely.
04:44The modern way is to dive and Rahul's not done that.
04:46Not really got much of a stretch and he's going to have to go.
04:50Anderson at mid-off and you can put him anywhere.
04:53He's the best fielder in the England side.
04:55That's going to be given out.
04:58Pressure of the way England are bowled.
05:00India haven't been able to get away with any boundaries.
05:03Dravid's on his way.
05:04He goes for two.
05:05India nine for two in the sixth over.
05:14Oh, that's a beauty from Jimmy Anderson.
05:19Parti Patel playing all across that full delivery.
05:2413 for three.
05:27Made a right mess of the wicked area.
05:30Parti Patel has had a party in the last couple of games, but not today.
05:34It was just a bit too good.
05:36You can't take liberties on this pitch with the ball darting around as it is.
05:40You've got to play straight.
05:41He played all round that.
05:42And 13 for three is the score.
05:46This is going to be a very quick one-day game.
05:49Seventh over.
05:50Three wickets down.
05:51Pitch is doing plenty.
05:52The Indian team look like they want to go home.
06:01Big shout.
06:02Too high, I think, once more from Jimmy Anderson.
06:07Reign is a terrific one-day player, but in these conditions, he's going to find it difficult.
06:14There you just see Nigel Long suggesting to Jimmy Anderson, height.
06:20Good call.
06:26Really late swing again from Anderson.
06:31Oh, that's a chance.
06:32A really difficult one.
06:34In fact, it might not even have been a chance because Keys Vedder had too much to do.
06:40But it's certainly off the glove.
06:42It's the first boundary of the innings for India, and it's unconvincing, whatever they think.
06:47Well, it's Reiner with the short ball, as we saw in the test matches.
06:50Whenever the ball is, the quicker ball is surprising with something short, look,
06:55he gets in a little bit of difficulty.
06:57He got it away in the end, but you can't say he looked comfortable, did he?
07:01He didn't play with any aplomb.
07:06Oh, no.
07:07You are kidding.
07:10Suresh, what are you thinking about?
07:13Your short ball's upsetting, doesn't it?
07:16It just does.
07:18He has to solve that problem.
07:20You can't just get a short ball that upsets him, and then he just has a slog like that.
07:33Simple.
07:34So simple, it's almost embarrassing.
07:36In fact, the crowd didn't know it had happened.
07:39England barely celebrated the most obvious nick, and Virat Kohli has to join three other Indians in the dressing room.
07:48Well, it's a good ball.
07:50It moves away, but if you watch carefully, he really didn't have to play it.
07:53He just follows it.
07:54Just a tentative poke at a ball that it could have left, or moved his foot further across and got
08:00closer behind it.
08:02And it's so simple for England.
08:04Kohli gone for seven, 25 for four.
08:06And that is a low score.
08:07Remember, we're in the 11th over.
08:09I can't think that too often in the history of one-day cricket played by India, they've been in this
08:14sort of a state.
08:15We'll take a break and hope for better from them when we come back.
08:26Welcome back to the Oval.
08:28Top left of the picture there.
08:29You can see the glare of the floodlight.
08:30That's on at this early stage.
08:32It's quarter to two in the afternoon because there's a bit more cloud cover than was expected.
08:36India in serious trouble.
08:3825 for four.
08:39We can now confirm that after ten overs, that is their lowest score ever in a one-day international.
08:46Suresh Rayn has come out to the crease, played a couple of strokes.
08:49MS Dhoni has just joined him, but India are being found out, not just by England's skill with the new
08:53ball, but by their brilliance in the field too.
09:00Well-placed, MS Dhoni.
09:04Off the mark with a beautifully driven boundary, just wide of mid-off.
09:11This lad, Suresh Rayner, we've seen is a very talented player at whacking the ball, hitting great shots, hitting the
09:18ball out of the ground, very much like Yuvraj Singh.
09:21The other fine left-hander for India.
09:24What he has to learn to do is play match-winning innings.
09:28Oh, not like that, boy, not like that.
09:36Hey!
09:38Dhoni, Dhoni got away with it.
09:41And nobody knows how, nobody.
09:45Caught back when he should have been forward.
09:47He must have premeditated that Anderson ball, I think.
09:52Hello.
09:53Hello.
09:58Well, that's what he's good at, I was just saying a moment ago, he hits it fantastically, like Yuvraj Singh.
10:10Good stroke, quickly in the position.
10:13Whoa, that's MS Dhoni at his very best, and he is at his best when he plays his strokes.
10:20Go on, captain.
10:30He's got that through, Dhoni.
10:32That was sort of a cup shot, square of the wicket on the offside, with a very odd body position,
10:39his chest facing down the pitch rather than side on.
10:48Big swing, and I think an edge, and Rainer's, well, if you live by the sword, sometimes you die by
10:55it.
10:55He's tried a couple of those shots and pulled off the odd one, but that was probably not the right
11:00time to do it.
11:01It's easy to say that in hindsight.
11:03India needed more from him than that little cameo.
11:06Well, when you play shots like this with 31 overs to go, when your team are four down, they have
11:10to come off.
11:12If they don't come off, you've got to walk into a dressing room with everyone looking at you and saying,
11:17why, oh, why?
11:19He's a better player than that, Rainer.
11:21He goes for 21, India 58 for 5.
11:25Just a little bit fuller to, today, he will do the trick, I think, for Broad.
11:29He's planted on the back foot, and in fact, that was Fuller, it was beautifully played.
11:34Just a fraction over pitch from Broad, and caressed for four through extra cover.
11:41Well, India have found it quite difficult against the England Seamers, now it's Graham Swan to ball his off-spinners.
11:48What?
11:49Oh, leading edge, trying to work the off-spinner, that's what it was.
11:54You see, he's trying to work that single through mid-on, it's one of his favourite shots, but he's having
11:59to fetch it from a long way,
12:01which is difficult then to get around the off-spin, and if it was straight on, he leading edges it.
12:10Played.
12:11Well played.
12:11That's what you've got to do, you've got to use all the overs.
12:13This is only the end of the 24th, the 75 for 5.
12:17You don't want to be playing irresponsible shots, you want to play out the whole full 50 overs.
12:24Oh, this is tight.
12:26Oh, no.
12:27Is he?
12:28Took a little time to get round to his left, so in the end it was quite a decent run.
12:33Oh, I think this really is tight, Geoffrey.
12:35That's a mile's out, isn't it?
12:36I thought he'd got in, but no, you've got a Jimmy Anderson at your pedal.
12:44Great shot.
12:46Chad Age is feeling confident at last.
12:49Yeah, that's a ripper, isn't it?
12:51He said he got to leg side and walloped it.
12:54Interesting word, confident.
12:55He gained massive confidence from playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL with Shane Warne.
13:01Warne really believed in him and encouraged him to do just that.
13:07Chart, another one, like it, got up high on the back foot.
13:12Yes, that's brought the Indian crowd to their feet.
13:15They've been looking for something to shout for, haven't they?
13:18Not had a lot today.
13:25Beautifully timed from Deja.
13:27That's going to go all the way for four.
13:30Nice to cook's turn to Ravi Bapara.
13:33Try and get a little bit of seam movement out of this pitch.
13:3850 partnership.
13:42If only the head wickets in hand now.
13:45Pitch is playing nicely against the second-string England bowlers.
13:49The ball a little softer.
13:50Lovely bounce on this over the pitch, allowing batsmen to hit it on the up.
13:5530 overs gone and India 109 for five.
13:57And that's the problem.
13:58They've lost so many early wickets.
14:00They'll be looking at over 200.
14:02They score at sixes.
14:03They'll get 229.
14:04I think 8 and overs out the question.
14:06269.
14:07They've got to get in the game.
14:08Somewhere over 200.
14:09They may have a chance.
14:16Lovely.
14:17Just a use of the pace from Deja.
14:19It's a quicker ball from Graham Swan.
14:22And the young batsman has picked it up early and just glided it into that vacant spot.
14:33Brilliantly timed.
14:34Just for a split second, it looked like it had gone to backward point.
14:37It's flown past Ian Bell.
14:42This man has the fastest hands in the west.
14:45Mahendra Singh Doughty.
14:46When he gets any width, it's going to be a brilliant catch or even interception to deny him.
14:57Oh, just the element of look that you need on this kind of pitch.
15:15Very nice the play from Dhoni.
15:19That glance to fine leg brings up the 50 for the Indian captain.
15:24And a great reception from this crowd.
15:29He's got to double it up.
15:30He's got to get 100 to give his team half a chance.
15:35Well, he's very much the self-made Indian hero.
15:39Comes from a poorish background and had to scrap for his living.
15:43And he's had to do that again today.
15:45But he's reconstructed the innings well for India.
15:53150 of that seemed then likely a long, long time ago, didn't it?
15:5940 overs gone.
16:0010 more, probably 2 or 3 play sensibly and then look to get after the bowling.
16:13More good placement from Juveja.
16:18And it means that this pair have now put on 100 together.
16:22It's come in 136 balls.
16:24That's very good time, given the situation in which they found themselves.
16:29A hopeless situation, you'd say, but not anymore.
16:40Four.
16:41Four.
16:42Nice touch in that stroke.
16:43We've seen a lot from Juveja here.
16:46The ability to hit the ball hard through the offside, to deflect it through the leg side.
16:51And it's a splendid 50.
16:53One that will give not just hope to his team, but to all India after what they've seen here in
16:57England this summer.
17:07And he hasn't got any distance with that, Dhoni.
17:09And the backing powerplay has brought his downfall.
17:13Bresden, who actually has had a bit of rough treatment in previous powerplays in this little series.
17:20Comes finally to the party and gets a wicket.
17:23In fact, he's got excellent economic figures too.
17:26One for nine teams from eight and a bit overs.
17:28And that was just a very low, full toss, which Dhoni just couldn't get any distance on at all.
17:33Simple catch to Alistair Cook.
17:35And the powerplay working at the moment for England.
17:38170 for six now.
17:40Dhoni played well for 69.
17:49That's fine.
17:50And that's four.
17:51Turnback using his quicker delivery.
17:5388 miles an hour.
17:55And Ashwin getting across his stumps.
17:57Hasn't made much of an impact at the back so far on this tour.
18:01But in fact, he used to be an opening batsman, despite the fact his role now in the team is
18:05as off-spinner.
18:06And that was very misdirected by Dernbach.
18:12Clever.
18:13Good batting.
18:17Just using the pace.
18:19India really need to step on the gas if they're going to pose England a challenge.
18:23And break out of the shackles imposed by England's bowlers.
18:26And they're doing that well this over.
18:28It's eight in three balls.
18:32Call that the ramp.
18:36He's picked that up.
18:38And deposited it just short of the ropes.
18:41Maybe just got his line a fraction wrong.
18:44He was looking for the slower ball.
18:46So difficult to bowl in the back of the hand delivery.
18:49But if he gets his line wrong, the batsman can seize on it.
18:56And that's fantastic shot.
18:58That's really his trademark shot.
19:00The smash through the offside.
19:04That's 19 off the hover from Jade Dernbach.
19:08That took India nine overs to get their first 19 runs of the match.
19:12And they lost three wickets doing it.
19:16Shot again.
19:18Death work from Ravi Ashwin.
19:21who's belying his status as number eight here he's rushed to a team from eight
19:25balls
19:30club that before he was always looking to the offside
19:36Anderson coming on for the last over the batting power play and in danger
19:40of having his early figures ruined
19:46and he's repeated it you've got to have long off back I think the way he's going to bowl
19:51looking to pitch the ball up around the leg stump middle and leg stumps and the David giving himself
19:57room can't help but think that he's in the zone very few sportsmen find it but he's come out to
20:04the middle and from the off he played these glorious strokes this is the stuff of a champion
20:12that's four more that's a really good shot from Ashwin backed away and in a good length ball back
20:19over the bowl was head with consummate ease 16 off and over from Anderson and it has ruined this figure
20:25three for 48 now brilliant it's just changed his bat and played an ingenious shot taking a leaf out of
20:42that is high and is it out
20:47yes comfortably caught Ian Bell is the regulation man underneath those long on and long off towards
20:53the end of the innings and actually reward for Dernbeck too who has taken a bit of rough treatment but
20:58wickets invaluable in the last three overs on one day match what a terrific innings
21:05did go up high as Simon Hughes says Ian Bell's really good took a blinder a couple of blinders at
21:11Southampton but that innings is something to give everybody heart and shown spirit and talent one of the
21:18best you'll see 78 in 89 balls for Ravinda today Jones now 229 for seven this has been an impressive
21:26final
21:27over from Dernbeck just five runs off it the last ball of the innings can he finish it off going
21:32to
21:32Pravin Kumar who can hit a mean ball but the ball was far too good it's left some debris on
21:39the on the
21:39crease at the end of that innings and England dragged it back well just in that last over with India
21:45surging ahead
21:46with that partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja but Dernbeck's finished on top well there's a chart
21:54that tells a story India's very difficult beginning and the loss of early wickets and the problems that
22:01everybody had against the moving ball and then some consolidation in the middle where wickets weren't
22:05lost and then MS Dhoni and Ravinda Jadeja branching out and our Ashwin adding to the pain for England at
22:12the end 60 runs came from the last five overs 234 for seven Reiner with 21 played some good strokes
22:19but
22:20still he doesn't convince in that sort of a situation at least not in the way that Doney does 69
22:25for
22:25the captain he played really well 78 for Jadeja that's his best score in one day international
22:30cricket 36 for our Ashwin and India 234 for seven England bowled very well I thought three for 48 for
22:37James Anderson one each for Tim Breslin and Jade Dernbeck and Stuart Broad Graham Swan arguably the
22:43best of them he retains such control even under extreme pressure therefore 235 for England to win
22:50the match at a rate of 4.7 and over see you after the break
23:03welcome back to the oval as Alistair cook and Craig keys better make their way to the middle England
23:08need 235 to win this third one day matching and one up in the series pitch is pretty good there's
23:15enough
23:15there for the seamers but there's something there for the stroke players too oh that's a rush shot I
23:25don't think there's any need for that I was a bit too close to Alistair cook look it's not a
23:32big total
23:33England need that could only can only get in trouble if they lose wickets with great deliveries or bad shots
23:42good shot that's gone through that'll go for four you slipped off the face nicely played cover drive
23:49I know gone exactly where he wanted but he played it well good footwork and he ran along the deck
23:59oh what a fantastic delivery where did that come from
24:04for if your balls another three or four of them it will make them all peep in the England dressing
24:08room
24:09watch this bounce and leave him oh that's wasted on thee lad I'll never nick those oh well there's not
24:18much you can do about that he has a good eye keys better oh that could be six and that's
24:29a long
24:29boundary but that's six anyway he surprises the bowler you know just plays normal orthodox cricket and then
24:36suddenly he leaves down the pitch and smashes them out of the park
24:43shot shot bang that in and try to keep it straight because he got wired it outside on stone and
24:49keys
24:50better was alert to it lovely shot he know there's nobody down there behind square
24:58oh down the leg side and he's what he just helped it on its way
25:04now they're not making a good fist of defending this total india
25:15fall to cook and dividing his time waiting for the width and that's 400 runs for alistair cook now
25:22since he took over as england's one day captain in june he's averaging 80 in that period strike rate of
25:30a
25:30100
25:40that straightforward single brings up the 50 partnership really good start by england
25:50what a shot maximum come see the white ball fly third six hit by craig keys better
26:00and what a very good innings this is already 34 from 24 balls england flying along
26:15and great that it's munaf patel who gets him patel puts in a lot of hard yards in one day
26:21cricket for india and doesn't always get reward for it terrific bit of bowling full and straight against
26:27a man who wants to play across the line the ball nipping back an iota just enough
26:33no doubt in the mind of the umpire or indeed alistair cook when he has a look
26:37at the replay hitting middle halfway up india's first strike and very important for them to get going
26:45made 23 it's 63 for one jonathan trot back in at number three he missed the game at the rose
26:51bowl
26:52when it was reduced to 23 hours ian bell took his position there and played nicely
27:02is that an outside edge a good move by captain donning bringing on judasia the left down spinner
27:08had such a good day with the bat mind you because the ball came out of the rough
27:12bounced oddly it kept lower than dony might have usually predicted which is why the catch was put down
27:20oh it drops a leading edge from craig key sweater
27:26tough chance but he gets two hands to it
27:34and that's a glance he's going to go all the way
27:38yep good dive there but how often does that happen the drop chance followed by a boundary
27:48oh sharp work by dony now was trot out of his ground when he removed the bales that was brilliant
27:55he reacted to that bottom edge very quickly i think quicker than trot did
28:01well he dragged his foot out of the crease but he put it back i think before dony look the
28:06foot's out
28:07it's back unfortunately for dony the ball was high it bounced very high so we had to bring it down
28:12which
28:13took time he's fine
28:20that's a neat push into the onside and that's a blistering 50 for keys wetter 41 balls is all it's
28:26taken him three sixes three fours he's taken the bowlers on and given england real impetus early on
28:37oh that turned well looking at that and looking at the way jadeja batted as well you wonder where he's
28:45been
28:47bold in middle stump not back can he work from jadeja the one that skids on with the arm and
28:54keys right
28:54looking so dangerous against the faster bowlers using the pace of the ball so well doesn't look
28:59quite so happy against spin he's on his way back and finally he's got his reward that's just the pressure
29:05and the confusion in the batsman's mind as to whether it's going to turn or go straight on
29:10an excellent bowling but it's a very excellent uh century 51 of 46 balls england still coasting nicely 87 for
29:182
29:26well that's worth asking as well ian bell wasn't very far forward
29:31and ashwin just getting the odd ball to skid on and the odd one to turn no bounce so it's
29:38dangerous
29:38if you don't get your back to it well this turns a little bit you can see the line
29:45is that a little bit high it hit the front pad and then went onto the thigh of the the
29:49second leg
29:53bowling well this is clever stuff by both the indian spinners and
29:57suddenly ashwin has found something maybe it was his batting that that helped him but he's tying
30:03and in knots at the moment beautiful bowling oh that's lifted the indian crowd and the indian team
30:11look at this plays through the line that's the key plays way in front of his front pad leaves a
30:18gap
30:19and the ball goes through it's a gap that you could have driven your car through
30:22and trot's gone for 11 and struggling 11 of 25 balls in england now 89 for three
30:30now this is intriguing the long-awaited batting debut of ben stokes this is his third match in
30:38this series he hasn't yet got to the wicket until today he's done some decent work in the field but
30:45as a
30:46pugnacious left-hander for durham he's got a reputation let's see if he can deliver
30:52well that's close as well that's good bowling by ashwin first ball not out just got his uh
31:00leg outside the line there i think not out it's outside of stump playing his shot
31:08shouldn't be out 20 to 7 and quite unexpectedly rain came uh for an hour exactly the players left
31:17the field of play but thankfully we're able to get going again as i say an hour later at 20
31:22to 8 so
31:22when we come back after the break we'll pick up play
31:34welcome back to the oval where thankfully the rain has relented we left us with england 95 for three
31:40we've lost an hour and therefore we have a revised target of 218 that's a further 123 for england to
31:47win the game at a rate of 5.3 and over first over back ravinda jadeja bowling at ian bell
31:57and immediately
31:57he's into his stride with a characteristic cut stroke it's important that bell sort of escorts ben
32:03stokes through this early period of re-establishing themselves at the wicket well pressure starting to
32:09build on ben stokes he scored five or fifteen deliveries
32:14he's just trying to cut the ball emis down he's got two slips in place he can sense that the
32:19young
32:19lads just starting to feel the pressure
32:23too close for him to cut it's the quicker one from ashwin
32:34ah it's a poor ball it's probably the first bad ball that jadeja has bowled
32:40and bell so quick to get on that back foot and punch it through mid wicket
32:52good touch as well from bell following up the pull stroke look at the way that races across the
32:57outfit or made the ball pretty wet as well which won't help the spinners
33:01and a little spell that india had over england seems to have been broken
33:10that's what ben stokes does for durham
33:13you ripper well the one way to clear any nerves is just whack into the stands
33:23that'll calm him down a bit
33:36tell you what india really like it now we'll see because it's been referred
33:43absolute brilliant from ms dhoney just to run to his side and flick it i think this is very very
33:50close
33:52out ian bell is out absolutely outstanding from the captain dhoney
33:58bell is the man who's gonna have to go look at this out whoa that's a turn up now come
34:04alive you guys
34:09that's a massive blow here berlin such good touch he goes for 23 and 131 for four
34:1687 of 100 balls still required
34:27oh dear me that's a shocker of the dismissal
34:35it's a full toss
34:39in county cricket ben stokes would have cleaned this out the ground on many occasions
34:44you could just sense he was moving around the crease starting to panic looking for the boundary
34:49never really in control of his innings today hit one good shot into the stands
34:53all a learning curve when you're only in the team for the first few occasions but
34:57he'll have learned a great deal about international cricket in that half an hour at the crease he goes
35:02for 20 and 133 for five still require 85 from 92 balls
35:08tim bresnan here's a big ask for you it was bresnan of course who came in in the tide match
35:14in the world
35:15cup and played so brilliantly when england threatened to blow their good position that match was tied
35:21and on many occasions he's come in and played really smart strong innings for england in the one
35:27day game and others needed here because england still need even after that single 84 from 91 balls
35:33the question that we have to ask here is that india just haven't been used to winning
35:37been beaten by england in pretty much every game this tour about from the one that got rained off at
35:41durham
35:46it's a poor ball another full toss the last one got a wicket this one gets thumped through extra color
35:56the ball to rest rainer has come on and tied england down he's now about 10 deliveries there were only
36:04two singles off the bat and then a couple of buys that you've just seen and it's all a bill
36:10bill bill
36:11by india using the slow bonus whoa there's some spin there
36:21the chop hardly a bad ball that only just short of a length and he manufactured a shot there
36:27of breslin and they get another one for the skiddy and another one again if they run hard
36:32go on you can run four for that it's fred carno's army down there my goodness me they all run
36:41four
36:45oh that's a good shot that was deliberate that is a super good shot
36:52i think when we see this again breslin just gets there a little bit too early but there's
36:56enough common sense about him to realize to go through with the shot over the top of the fielder
37:03yeah super
37:08oh
37:11i wonder if he nicked that that's a sort of ball when you pull away and it's not that short
37:17and you nick it
37:22i think the next two overs are quite big for england they need 56 or 60 balls and it's important
37:27not to get bogged down
37:30the part has got to play a few shots
37:42oh that helps i don't know whether it went exactly where he wants but he won't mind
37:48ravi bapa has got one a sort of late could edge before i think it really is important do not
37:54let
37:54rainer contain you any longer i think this is right from dhoney just to change the bowling the
38:00floor left arm spin of jadeja and very important he tries to spin the ball
38:08oh that's better yeah exactly what they want they must get a wicked or two get one they might get
38:13two
38:14and get back into the game and just sneak a win from what looks like a probable england victory
38:20well they must keep trying for wickets six overs to go 35 to win for england
38:29whoops yep that's another single and they've done well these two they've played a few good shots
38:34they've manufactured things they've run the singles well and the twos and threes uh for on 51 so far
38:46chart that's a good that's what we've been waiting to see ravi
38:50that's the first time he's let himself go and unleashed the shots that we know he has in his locker
38:5828 to go 30 balls left so it's a runner ball unless you do something daft you can't lose this
39:03england
39:04and how can you lose it against this bowling
39:14bowling there's a strike
39:19completely unpredictable almost as if bresden lost concentration did nothing with his feet
39:26just wafted at a straight ball and what seemed hopeless for india as it has so often today
39:32suddenly has some life left
39:37really do anything does it i suppose it spins an iota but yeah he can't believe he's done that
39:42that's like no that's not me president for 28 england 193 for six england still need 25 in 25 balls
39:50so
39:50it's a it's a runner ball still
39:59good shot by papara finding it in space and earning two he sprints back yes
40:14back out of mid on and he does well because the ball skids a little off that damp surface
40:19and broad does well too
40:21wasn't much that anybody could do there england
40:24in control you'd say or are those famous last words 17 needed from 18 balls
40:32right england have taken the batting power play only three fielders are allowed outside the ring
40:37just two overs of power play and just three overs in total remaining beautiful stroke
40:48made by the footwork
40:54wow the power of 40 40 40 balls now it's turning into a little gem of an innings and suddenly
40:59england
40:59need just 10. well it's a very mature innings from ravi papara he looked very calm
41:10got it yes ashwin lovely flight drawing both power into the mistake terrific cricket from india is there a little
41:21twist here
41:25drawing him into play that drive through the offside beautiful flight from ashwin
41:33good dip sharp work is that bold or is it stumped actually it's bold when you see that replay
41:40the bail just tumbles off it clips the very top of leg stump great cricket interesting game
41:49it's 208 for seven well or is it i think probably what's happened is somebody's saying to papara just
41:56hang on the third umpire's going to check that it wasn't doni's pad that disturbed the stump and
42:03therefore the bale fell off so the umpires have to have one look at it as will we
42:10no definitely bold clips the top of the bale so that'll be fine
42:16208 for seven
42:21now the challenge is for graham swan to stay calm oh he's got a free ball to start with can
42:27you
42:27believe it the easiest off the mark ball you'll see
42:36great swan innovative to start with and comfortably home and with an overthrow oh upon such tiny things
42:50it's tense here at the oval edge of your seat stuff six needed from ten balls
42:56broads broads got one of them down the ground that's sensible two very experienced cricketers
43:02can they keep their heads here
43:11graham swan has just played a beautiful stroke
43:17he took his life into his hands and all of a sudden england have done it really just a single
43:23needed the scores by the duckworth lewis method a little
43:32oh off goes swan and off go england victory in a match that was reduced a little by bad weather
43:40but in
43:40the end it was comfortable time to spare wickets to spare and england making life so so difficult for
43:47india day after day
43:51yeah another good win for the england team
43:54india being 58 for five they gave themselves a chance but
43:58you just feel that they just have forgotten that method of winning games
44:03vice versa england just know how to win they just get over the line
44:09tunnel in the series and you know what india still have not beaten england on this tour in fact
44:14they had to get a draw out of england
44:1923 alistair cook 51 craig keys better 23 run out ian bell he was going so nicely 20 ben stokes
44:2640
44:27ravi bopara 28 tim breslin they all did their bit and then the nottinghamshire boys stuart broad and
44:32graham swan were there together at the end india bob very nicely with their spinners in tandem
44:38something for doni to mull over there a wicket for munaf patel two for jadeja and three for our ashwin
44:46and there are the facts and figures india 234 for seven england 218 for seven it was the duckworth lewis
44:53method
44:53after that rain delay england now lead the series by two to nothing with two to play
44:58to what degree did that rain delay take the wind out of your sails well uh as i said you
45:03know we had
45:04a bit of advantage and a bit of disadvantage you know if we talk about the advantage uh you know
45:08we
45:08lost seven overs uh the good thing we didn't lose too many runs you know 223 odd and i think
45:14we scored
45:14close to 233 or 235 odd runs so that was the one advantage that we had because of the rain
45:21but
45:21a bit of disadvantage also you know i think uh with a bit of rain on the outfield you know
45:26it became
45:27slightly difficult for the especially for the spinners to bowl they they were getting a bit of
45:31turn uh but not if you compare it to you know the turn they got before the start of the
45:36rain and after
45:37i think you know uh it eased on a bit but i think the main disadvantage apart from that was
45:43the fact
45:43you know with the red ball our fast bowlers you know started coming on to the bat nicely now you
45:48got
45:48to tell us where you've been hiding revendra jadeja because he can play a bit well of course uh you
45:54know the last time uh when we came to england here it was a 2009 t20 world cup you know
45:59he was tested
45:59a bit with the short pitch delivery uh but what good to see is you know he has worked on
46:04it a bit
46:04and it's always good to you know see youngsters you know who work on their uh batting and their
46:10bowling you know we always knew he's a very good left arm spinner you know they call him a bowling
46:13all-rounder or a batting all-rounder but he always bowls 10 overs you know for us so it's really
46:18good to
46:18have him great uh the facts are that you're the world cup holders but you're yet to beat england
46:23on this tour two games to go you can square the series what's ms going to do about it well
46:29that's
46:29the only motivation that we have got right now you know uh we are lacking behind uh you know two
46:34nil
46:34down uh two more games to go so hopefully you know we like to get uh some positive out of
46:38the series
46:39and you know the only way to look forward is to you know look for a draw in the series
46:42when it come to
46:43the audience all right well good luck with that thanks for your time i mean india of course missing
46:47a lot of their world cup champions and a lot of young players getting experienced by playing here
46:53the captain's still got a smile on his face two games to go the next of them at lords on
46:57sunday
46:57we'll be with you at seven o'clock in the evening join us then bye-bye
47:13we'll be with you
