00:00Former MCA President Dr. Ling Leong-sik died this morning at 82.
00:06His death was confirmed by MCA President Wee Ka-seong.
00:11Ling, the University Tunggu Abdul-Rafman Chancellor,
00:15held several positions in government and last served as Transport Minister from 1986 to 2003,
00:22during which he also led MCA.
00:25The Kuala Kangsar native received his primary education at King Edward VII's school in Taiping
00:32and later attended the Royal Military College in Sungai-basi.
00:37He launched his political career in 1968 when he joined MCA, becoming a Central Committee member in 1974.
00:46He served as Deputy Information Minister from 1976 to 1982,
00:52Deputy Finance Minister from 1982 to 1984,
00:57and Deputy Education Minister from 1985 to 1986,
01:02before being appointed the Transport Minister in 1986,
01:06succeeding Chang Honnian, who retired.
