00:08Philadelphia is located in the northeast of the United States, between New York and Washington, D.C.
00:17It is one of the most historic cities in the country, playing a vital role during the American Revolution and
00:23Revolutionary War.
00:24It was where the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776, a moment that will be commemorated exactly
00:34250 years later, when the city hosts a World Cup fixture on Independence Day.
00:41Philadelphia hosting a match on Independence Day, 250 years of the United States of America, and you host a World
00:50Cup game in Philadelphia.
00:53Philadelphia is home to the Phillies in Major League Baseball, the Flyers in the NHL, the 76ers in the NBA,
01:01and the Eagles in the NFL.
01:05And it is the Eagles, Super Bowl champions in 2024, that are the primary tenants of Lincoln Financial Field, which
01:13will play host to six matches during the World Cup.
01:16For that period, it will be known as Philadelphia Stadium.
01:21Five of those six matches will be in the group phase, with the Independence Day fixture occurring in the round
01:28of 16.
01:29We are here, dear council members, ladies and gentlemen, to come and unite the world, unite the world in Philadelphia.
01:38We'll bring teams from the entire world, we'll bring fans from the entire world, and we bring them here because
01:45we know that you are such a welcoming city.
01:49We know that they feel good, they will mingle with all of you, you will fill the stadium, but they
01:56will fill the city with joy and with happiness.
01:59Philadelphia Stadium opened in 2003, and will seat 67,000 spectators.
02:06It has hosted plenty of soccer, including matches in the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup, and the 2025 FIFA Club
02:15World Cup.
02:16It is also a preferred venue for European teams visiting the US during pre-season.
02:21The stadium design evokes an eagle, with wing-like canopies above the east and west stands, and the Eagles' nest
02:29balcony to the north.
02:31Three open corners of the stadium provide fans with views of the Philadelphia skyline, while the exterior of the stadium
02:39uses a brick façade to reference the historic architecture throughout the city.
02:44Stadium administrators are proud of the arena's status as one of the most environmentally sustainable in the United States,
02:51after undertaking a drive to lower its carbon footprint by installing solar panels and creating composting and recycling programs.
03:01We have one of the largest solar arrays in the world of any stadium. We have almost 11,000 panels.
03:06We produce 40% of our own energy.
03:09Our waste diversion is 99 plus percent in the stadium. We sort our own aluminum. We send that out. We
03:16actually bail it in the stadium, and then we send it out.
03:18We actually get money back on there, so there's a little bit of an ROI for anyone who's interested.
03:22And so, amongst that, I think, you know, with our energy and with our waste diversion, we're LEED Platinum certified,
03:28which helps us with FIFA and hosting World Cup games next year.
03:33And so, yeah, all of that makes for a really robust system.
