00:02A driver who allegedly rammed into two motorcycles in Kuala Lumpur
00:07pleaded not guilty at the magistrate's court
00:09to two charges of reckless and dangerous driving.
00:12T.S. Kugenthiran, 25, is accused of driving in a reckless manner
00:16that endangered Muhammad Afiq Zayani Azlihussaini, 24,
00:20and Muhammad Hiri Abdulrahman, 19, along Jalan Sultan Ismail,
00:24heading from the city centre towards Jalan Tuanku Abdulrahman
00:27at about 4.30 a.m. on April 2nd.
00:30He was charged under Section 42, subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act, 1987,
00:36which carries a maximum penalty of five years jail,
00:38a fine of up to 15,000 ringgit,
00:41and disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence
00:44for at least two years upon conviction.
00:47The magistrate set bail at 3,000 ringgit per charge with one surety
00:51and fixed June 15th for mention.
00:53Police said the man was detained after allegedly running a red light
00:57and crashing into the two motorcycles.
01:00Muhammad Afiq lost his left leg,
01:02while Muhammad Hiri suffered fractures to his left arm and leg in the incident.
