Jeremy White and Joe DiBiase discuss how sustainable this Sabres success is moving forward. Both point to Jarmo Kekalainen as an indicator things are changing.

00:00I guess when figuring out what they're doing is, I don't know if real is the right word,
00:06or sustainable, just like, is this bankable going forward?
00:11Are they just this?
00:14Because you mentioned the expected goals numbers, that could worry me.
00:18They've been outshot a lot in some of these games.
00:21Their goaltending has been great.
00:23There are 31 goals saved above expected between their three goalies this year.
00:27Like, oh, what do they look like if that doesn't happen?
00:29And they're around zero.
00:31They're on the even average track for that.
00:34What do they look like?
00:35And that might look bad, but the other teams around them are in the same position.
00:41Sure.
00:41Like, right now I look at their season totals and their, like, expected goals numbers,
00:45and who are the two teams right around them?
00:47Detroit and Montreal.
00:49Like, the other two teams in the division that are within two points of view right above you.
00:53Like, they have the same deal.
00:54And Boston is even lower.
00:56They're like, the Atlantic is seen as being so good this year because everybody's been
01:02winning all these games for two months.
01:04And the yeah, but on the Sabres with some of the advance numbers exists with all of those
01:09other teams that are winning too, except for the Lightning.
01:11So, that kind of gives me a confidence too, is maybe the division actually isn't this good
01:16as a whole, but everybody is getting these results.
01:20And if I'm just a part of that pack, then, like, I can make the playoffs this year, just
01:26having that be the case.
01:27We've talked about how they're more of a quality shooting team than a volume shooting team
01:32anyway.
01:33So, like, when they look at their shooting numbers, I'm not really that concerned about
01:36that.
01:37Like, really the only thing about them that really would concern me is, is their goaltending
01:41going to hold up after this break and play at the level it has?
01:44Again, 31 goals saved above expected this season.
01:47If they're league average, what are they as a team?
01:52They're probably still getting in the playoffs, but they might kind of put yourself in danger
01:57of actually have that happen.
01:58So, I like them.
02:00I like their chances.
02:01I think the division, you could say the same things.
02:04And I do think Yarmou being there, like, if he does something big at the deadline, especially,
02:10like, that's your warning shot that, okay, no, this guy is different than what we've been
02:15dealing with.
