00:39Hexef regarding Iran's missile capabilities.
00:47Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from De Lesos Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with
00:52the news.
01:07The Cuban government has announced the release of 2,010 people subject to sanctions through an approved pardon.
01:13The humanitarian and sovereign gesture was based on a careful analysis of the nature of the offences committed by those
01:20sentenced, their good conduct while in prison, the fact that they have served a significant portion of their sentence and
01:26their state of health.
01:28This is the fifth pardon granted by the Cuban government since 2011, from which more than 11,000 people have
01:35benefited.
01:36Furthermore, this is the second release of inmates this year in the context of the Holy Week religious celebrations.
01:41It is a common practice in the Cuban criminal justice system and part of the revolution's humanitarian tradition.
01:52Around Thursday, the City Council of Rome, the capital of Italy, approved a voucher of solidarity with Cuba expressing concern
01:58about the humanitarian, energy and economic situation to which the island is subjected due to the blockade imposed by the
02:04United States.
02:04The document highlights the need to provide institutional support to the Cuban people in this context and reaffirms the city's
02:12commitment to peace, dialogue and international cooperation.
02:15It also emphasizes the importance of strengthening relations based on respect and multilateralism, urging the Italian government to inform parliament
02:23and promote diplomatic action in European and international spaces.
02:27The resolution also contemplates support for cooperation initiatives such as the Energy for Life campaign, which aims to support the
02:34Cuban electrical system and the promotion of solidarity programs between Italian cities and the island.
02:46And the acting president of Venezuela, Alexis Rodriguez, issued a call for peaceful coexistence and respect among all religions, urging
02:54that different faiths contribute to unity.
02:56Through her social media, the acting president, Alexis Rodriguez expressed, at the beginning of Passover, my very special greetings to
03:04the Jewish community in our country and around the world.
03:07From Venezuela, a nation where freedom of worship is respected, I call on all religions to contribute to peace, understanding
03:14and coexistence and to continue to move forward together for national tranquility and prosperity.
03:26And two Venezuelan engineers took part in NASA's Artemis II mission, which marked the first crewed mission to lunar orbit
03:33in over 50 years.
03:34These are Nathalie Quintero, an aerospace engineer born in Caracas and a graduate of Simón Bolívar University, and Carlos Tomás
03:43Mata, an electrical engineer from Cumana, Sucre State, who have led key sectors in the development of the space launch
03:49system.
03:49Quintero's work involves supervising and synchronizing every technical component to ensure absolute precision, and Carlos is crucial for mitigating the
03:58risks posed by electrical storms during pre-launch preparations.
04:02The Artemis program's vision is to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon and pave the way for future
04:08missions to Mars.
04:14An Ecuadorian president, Alenobo, assigned executive decree 353 late Thursday night, declaring a new state of emergency in nine provinces
04:22of the country.
04:23The measure revives the debate on the recurrent use of states of emergency as a tool for controlling citizens, rather
04:31than as a solution to the serious crisis of violence.
04:34It will remain in effect for a period of 60 days. The decree suspends the right to the inviolability of
04:39the home and the inviolability of correspondence.
04:43In contrast to other declarations, this time a curfew was not imposed, so freedom of movement will not be restricted.
04:59An Ecuador violence persists in the city of Guayaquil. New attacks with explosives in the south of the city have
05:04left at least two people injured and caused multiple material damages.
05:08At least two teenagers were injured in a series of explosive attacks. Authorities detailed that the victims were taken to
05:15a healthcare facility.
05:16The explosion also affected four homes and several vehicles after detonation neighbors found threatening flyers in the vicinity of the
05:25affected homes.
05:25It should be noted that the events occurred during the night, just one day after another armed attack in the
05:31same area left three people dead.
05:41Also in Ecuador, the heaviest corpus hearing in favor of former Ecuadorian Vice President Jorge Glass was suspended by the
05:47Criminal Court of the Canton of La Libertad, Santa Elena.
05:51The judge cited the defense failure to appear while the defense has alleged obstruction of the proceedings and issues with
05:57their remote participation.
05:59The defense attorneys had filed the appeal after alleging a risk to Glass life in the maximum security facility where
06:05he is being held.
06:06The court cited the absence of Glass defense teams as the main reason.
06:10However, the former Vice President's international attorney Sonia Vera disputed this account, asserting that the defense attorney was indeed present
06:17via video conference.
06:18In this regard, the defense demanded that the National Comprehensive Care Service and the Ministry of Public Health guarantee adequate
06:27conditions for Glass during his detention at the Encuentro prison.
06:37The Argentine government declared Iran charged the affairs Muslim Solani-Tahrani personal non grata and gave him 48 hours to
06:44leave the country.
06:45The decision, announced by the Foreign Ministry and signed by Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, came after Tehran rejected the designation
06:52of the Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization by President Javier Millet's government.
06:57The measure is part of the Argentine government's foreign policy, which has strengthened its closeness to the United States and
07:04Israel, especially following the recent attacks against the Iranian territory.
07:08Iran described Argentina's position as interference contrary to the international law and questioned Buenos Aires' explicit support for data lines
07:17amid growing diplomatic tensions.
07:24We have our first break coming up.
07:26We're going to be right back.
07:48Welcome back.
07:49The United Nations confirmed on Thursday four allegations of sexual abuse committed by members of its mission in Haiti.
07:56Allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse involving members of the multinational security assistance mission led by Kenya were received in
08:032025 and publicly confirmed by the multilateral organization on Thursday.
08:07In this regard, a history of impunity in Haiti is reiterated as the country remains a ground for failed interventions
08:13by the United Nations, the organization of American states, Canada and the United States.
08:33In Italy, a severe rainstorm caused a bridge to collapse on State Route 16 over the Trigno River, cutting off
08:39a key transportation route in the country.
08:41The structure collapsed near the town of Montanero de Visakia, forcing the immediate closure of the road in both directions
08:49and causing significant traffic detours.
08:51It is worth noting that firefighters have carried out various emergency responses in the last few hours in the regions
08:58of Abruzzo, Molise and Apulia to address flooding and other damage.
09:02Furthermore, given the severity of the situation, the president of the province of Phokia in the Apulia region formally requested
09:09a declaration of a state of disaster, a measure aimed at mobilizing additional resources to address the extensive damage caused
09:15by extreme weather conditions.
09:23At least one person has died in the city of Neomarkery near Athens in Greece due to the flooding caused
09:29by storm Herminio.
09:30The victim was swept away by the Caribbean while trying to leave their home.
09:34The storm caused significant damage in various parts of the country, especially in the regions of Attica, Crete and several
09:42islands to the south of the Asian Sea.
09:44The storm caused severe flooding, the fall of trees and vehicles being swept away by the water.
09:49According to the president of the Union of Firefighters, only in Attica, the emergency services received around 400 calls from
09:56citizens.
10:03And China rejected the United States' accusations regarding alleged actions against Panamanian ships in the Panama Canal, considering them to
10:10be unfounded.
10:12Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated that Washington's statements distort the facts and questioned its intentions regarding this interoceanic waterway.
10:21Furthermore, she reiterated that Beijing's position on port issues in Panama is clear and assured that her country will defend
10:28its legitimate interests.
10:30The reaction comes after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused China of allegedly harassing Panamanian flak vessels.
10:37The exchange comes amid tensions following the irregular cancellation of a port operation contract in the Panama Canal.
10:51And China is boosting the use of artificial intelligence to improve education and therapy for children with autism, expanding access
10:58to personalised care even in underserved cities.
11:02Our correspondent Bruno Fossi with the details.
11:06Greetings, comrades.
11:08Here in China, the new artificial intelligence tool is transforming education and play therapy for children with autism, allowing the
11:19teachers to provide personalised attention and giving children new opportunities for development.
11:26Children with autism spectrum disorder are now receiving more individualized attention thanks to the technological innovations.
11:37National studies estimate that approximately 1 in 143 children in China has autism.
11:45And tools like the RISE AI are bringing specialized therapies even to cities that previously had fewer resources.
11:55Developed by Xiaomi, the software helped teachers plan lessons tailored to each child, track their progress and create effective play
12:06activities.
12:07Simple games like soap bubbles have become effective tools for simulating development.
12:15The system uses data from more than 30,000 students and offers suggestions like a human supervisor raising the standards
12:25of care.
12:26The adoption of the artificial intelligence is revolutionizing teaching and improving children's lives.
12:35The implementation coincides with the World Autism Awareness Day, celebrated on the 2 April, reinforcing the importance of promoting the
12:47rights inclusion and full participation of people with autism in the society.
12:54With this news, here in the capital of China, we will go back with you in the studios.
13:02Thank you, Bruno. Let's now continue with other topics.
13:21In China, immersive experiences and technological innovation merge with cultural heritage to boost tourism.
13:29The new waves of cultural fairs in China stand out from previous years for their colors, impactful scenes, and immersive
13:37environments that redefine the public's relationship with cultural heritage.
13:44These include musical dramas, Sangju folk songs, West Hunan customs with acrobatics, and striking visual effects that immerse visitors and
13:55turn them into active participants in the narratives.
14:00Thanks to the coordinated presentation of ultra-wide high-definition images and 3D effects visible to the naked eye, we
14:07achieved a 270-degree panoramic visual spectacle.
14:10Using technology, we allow the audience to immerse themselves in the charm of Wuyi Mountain as a world natural and
14:17cultural heritage site.
14:20The project has turned these early cinematic-level virtual reality experiences into a major attraction.
14:28Cultural centers like the Hubei Provincial Museum have adopted this format to recreate traditions such as tea culture and the
14:35reflections of the Confucian scholar Zhu Shi.
14:39I found it absolutely impressive. It is full of technological wonders. The fusion of modern technology with traditional culture and
14:47Zhu Xi's neo-Confucianism is incredibly well achieved.
14:51The spaces are designed to accommodate hundreds of viewers for a simultaneous virtual reality experience like Bronze Age Odyssey.
15:03A 30-minute tour showcasing iconic museum artifacts such as the 2,500-year-old Gaujian sword, allowing each viewer
15:11to experience history vividly.
15:15Through such a vivid and dynamic approach, cultural relics are no longer cold containers. It makes history speak, and it
15:23makes the artifacts speak.
15:27From mountain stages to museum halls, Chinese cultural tourism is being remodeled by the fusion of heritage and technology.
15:34Each show creates a new connection with Chinese heritage, where the visitor not only walks through and observes, but also
15:40engages with its memory.
15:48Let's now take our second break. We're going to be right back.
16:16Welcome back.
16:17On Thursday, US intelligence agencies refuted public statements made by President Donald Trump and Secretary of War Peter Hexeth regarding
16:25Iran's missile capabilities.
16:26Intelligence services have confirmed that Iran maintains a significant missile capability, thousands of operational drones, and a network of mobile
16:34launchers that remain out of reach of attacks by the United States and Israel.
16:37They state in confidential statements to the media that Iran remains fully prepared to cause absolute chaos throughout the region.
16:45These statements, in addition to exposing those responsible for security, highlight the increasingly noticeable institutional fracture within the U.S.
16:54government.
17:02Iran has condemned the attacks by the United States and Israel against civilian areas and infrastructure.
17:07In this regard, Foreign Minister Saer Abbas Araki described these events as a strategic failure on the part of Washington
17:13and Tel Aviv.
17:14These attacks have destroyed more than 115,000 civilian structures, including schools, hospitals, and the prestigious Luis Pasteur Center for
17:22Pharmacological and Medical Research.
17:32In this context, the Finland Vaccine Institute in Cuba condemned the U.S. Israeli attack that destroyed the historic Pasteur
17:39Institute in Iran.
17:40The Cuban institution described the bombing as an assault on accumulated knowledge, global public health, and the most sacred principles
17:47of the international scientific community.
17:49The Institute emphasized that knowledge cannot be destroyed, but rather multiplies through solidity and highlight the work of Iranian scientists
17:56who dedicate themselves daily to the health of their people.
18:05And Russian Foreign Minister Segal Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araki discussed the navigation of security in the Strait
18:12of Hormuz.
18:12The ministers assessed the situation surrounding the Middle East conflict and the efforts of various states to reduce tensions.
18:20In this regard, they exchanged views on the progress of discussions concerning ways to ensure navigation security in the Strait
18:26of Hormuz.
18:27There is a goal that the United States and Israel launched coordinated attacks against Iran on February 28th amid ongoing
18:33indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran regarding Iran's nuclear program.
18:38The escalation in the region has led to a de facto blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route
18:44for oil and liquefied natural gas supplies from Gulf countries to the global market.
18:57The European Union warned of a possible energy crisis amid tensions in the Middle East and called on the public
19:02to reduce travel.
19:06Energy Commissioner Dan Juggerson warned that the block faces a complex economic scenario and called for measures to reduce fuel
19:14consumption, especially diesel and aviation fuel.
19:19Among the recommendations is a proposal to limit car use and air travel as part of an effort to curb
19:25energy demand.
19:28Since the start of the war in the Middle East, oil prices have risen by about 60% and fuel
19:34and gasoline by about 45% since February.
19:39RAND, the international benchmark, has not been this expensive since mid-2022.
19:44And Omani crude has even reached an all-time high at over $154 per barrel, resulting in these measures.
19:55These warnings contrast with the position of the United Kingdom where the authorities have called for business as usual by
20:03assuring that they have sufficient reserves.
20:05However, fuel supplies from the Middle East to Europe have been affected, and new shipments could take several weeks due
20:13to the disruption in transport routes and refining processes.
20:37The delegation of the Palestinian resistance led by Khalil al-Hayat is holding meetings in Egypt with representatives of that
20:43country, Qatar and Turkey, to denounce the great violations of the season.
20:46This meeting aims to monitor the ceasefire in Gaza perpetrated by the genocidal Israeli regime, as well as other serious
20:51incidents.
20:52This meeting aims to monitor the ceasefire agreement supposedly in effect since October 10, 2025.
20:58There, they address the series of violations in which Tel Aviv has been involved with the support of Washington during
21:03the meeting.
21:03They also condemn the law approved by the Israeli parliament that establishes the death penalty for Palestinians conflicted of killing
21:09Israelis, which is not equivalent for Israelis.
21:18And in the Russian region of Bogorod, at least 12 people have been injured following attacks by Ukrainian forces.
21:24The governor of that territory, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that most of the injured people suffered injuries from mine expulsions.
21:31At the same time, a civilian was injured in another Ukrainian attack on a vehicle.
21:35The Kremlin has insisted that this incident highlight the nature of the tactics employed by Kyiv against critical civilian and
21:41economic targets.
21:49And like this, you have come to the end of this news rift.
