00:37for us so it's very custom honestly we do think our house stands above most other
00:44people's Paul and Luana have no doubt their place will slice through the
00:48competition the entire back of the house is just windows it's picture-perfect I
00:54don't have any concerns whatsoever that we're not going to win and Peter and
00:58Amanda believe their house has a flawless scorecard nobody has a house like this
01:02those pops of colors the layout I really think we have a good chance of winning
01:08when the judging is done one neighbor bags the bragging rights and claims the
01:12crown as top of the block welcome to the west side where the homes are stately the
01:19parks are picturesque and the neighbors are in a full-blown renovation arms race
01:24ready to ruffle some feathers our judges are here to stoop score and set the
01:29record straight real estate agents and tough critic Sasha when I'm in your house
01:34I'll be judging the choices that you've made nosy neighbor Henry I'm just a
01:38neighbor but don't discount me because I'm in this competition to pick a winner
01:42and renovation aficionado Andrea I basically sleep eat and drink houses I'm
01:48obsessed okay Wow the rules of this competition are simple as our judges
01:53tour the houses they'll consider their design functionality and value added to
01:58the home one house will reign supreme I don't know how I feel about this room
02:03it's a wet mess in here that was a bit overdramatic let the battle for block
02:07royalty begin welcome to our modern farmhouse every room is some sort of
02:16white color on the walls she tells me the rooms are different colors but the
02:21classic 50 shades of white dilemma okay when it comes to the secret weapon of
02:28this house I mean I can't just pick one so one of them is our backyard and then
02:34there's the ensuite bathroom so I feel like that should earn us some points turn
02:39it on make it bubbles make it bubbles winning on this competition is great
02:44for bragging rights I suppose when it comes right down to it yes we've built this
02:48place yes it's very nice but this is also my childhood home not this home in
02:54particular but it is the same land as the judges stroll in to dissect every
03:00little detail Sharon and Jason snag front row seats to the impending chaos it's
03:05like we're going for a lie detector test ready to do some dissecting of their own
03:10we're here look at this there we go is that Henry who's Henry I know did you date him no

03:24somebody really thought about the palette for this house that was you you thought
03:28about the talent okay we're off to a good start like it Wow okay let's check
03:35out the living room in the kitchen love it Sharon and Jason did not spare an inch
03:41thank you Sasha this isn't absolutely stunning I'm speechless and that doesn't
03:46happen very often Wow custom wall unit the craftsmanship is top tier that is a
03:52timeless piece that adds value we didn't do any lipstick reno stuff no lipstick right
03:57at home confound on the quality we really didn't
04:00all about the millwork a built-in fridge they're in our fridge very nosy I just
04:05found a surprise she found a surprise what's the surprise a butler's pantry
04:16look at this everything tucked away you're getting all the storage we did
04:19think about storage a lot of storage the one thing I'm concerned is like that
04:23there's a lot of white here Henry you're supposed to be on our side red would look
04:27so good in here oh my goodness no I'm just noticing this mantle boy is it a
04:34gorgeous piece of art the textures are stunning when I'm looking at these knickknacks
04:38that's on there up this looks like something if I was coming in someone's trying to sell
04:42a house good point it is very depersonalized I think it's almost too perfect it does give
04:47you kind of like a staged feel where's the you know the home feel I don't know there's
04:52some meaningful items on those shelves yeah did you guys see what's outside there there's
04:56a TV oh my goodness and a dining table you're really getting the value added on in the backyard
05:03space right I love that okay that's what I wanted to see oh my gosh guys uh I know that
05:14I worked with Sharon before Henry finally realizes this is our house all right primary bedroom are we
05:23wowing this I'm not welling this it's not doing what it needs to do for me okay
05:35I feel like there is not a wow factor in this bedroom there's nothing to me in here that feels
05:43spa-like how about the the fireplace I agree the space it's not doing what it needs to do for

05:50Sasha don't like it either so I'm not completely happy with it I think it's there's a lot of dead
05:54space in this room I'm not dead space okay we were doing well until that moment let's check
05:59out the walk-in closet oh okay oh my goodness it's a whole new room I'm still feeling meh about

06:08whole setup from a design perspective there's not quite enough room to have an island this big in this
06:13closet and to me it feels like an afterthought this room is an afterthought let's see if this
06:20en suite is redeeming oh okay wow okay I stand corrected about the level of detail here thank
06:27you this bolted ceiling it really highlights this tub it's such a vibe yes okay we love this like come

07:02we like I feel like our space is more very unique wow factor you see this everywhere I don't care

07:10this so far I'm not feeling that marine type of window marine get out of here and the sinks could
07:19have been bigger okay yeah sure I think our bathroom has it for sure ours checks off all the boxes

07:26and I've just not seen anything unique about it thank you very much how are you feeling pretty good I
07:34mean I'm pretty good I'm just completely not interested in their opinion from one confident
07:40attitude to another I think our home is going to win our home is modern contemporary everything we
07:47did was renovated from the original structure it was a full cut seven years of renovations we're almost
07:52done the secret weapon of this home is really the primary bedroom with high ceilings and the view
07:58that you have you feel like you're in a treehouse yeah with the squirrels they like to climb up the
08:03so it's a gym for local wildlife got it winning this competition would be just a really nice
08:10recognition of our investment of time pain money and recognition of the design okay all right let's go
08:19come on come on oh look what we got here the rusted oxidized planters with the wood it's just so
08:28stunning all right let's do this oh the mid-century modern is just my favorite this house is a vibe
08:38it's great that they made it into an intimate setting but it is good for one person maybe two I
08:44don't think
08:44that they're expecting to fit a party of 20 in here I think it's just a chill space in a
08:50great
08:50spot at the front of the house Andrea gets it and we walked right by something really important the
08:55powder room it's um it's a little you know oh man I mean that was a bit over dramatic that's

09:03how you open a door it's giving like a renovated added for convenience because it's not very functional
09:08I think the powder room is quite functional it has a toilet and a sink yeah Sasha what else do

09:13want to do in there you're not there to read a book yeah that's for sure I'm loving this dining

09:26what we got here okay this is probably where I would live yeah now that we're coming in here the

09:32it's pretty wide open and I think it's pretty functional and as you notice this is quartz as well
09:37it's porcelain not quartz so you have the full flush between the countertops the backsplash the shelving
09:43and the island that's kind of cool because it keeps it very very minimalistic yeah that's right
09:48that was intentional may I just mention the awesome receptacles that they have here nice
09:54that's so cool oh my gosh the way they are built into this is incredible I love that okay that's
10:02pretty unique I haven't seen anything like this before so glad they noticed that yeah all right
10:07I've been dying to see color okay we have orange we have yellow and we're continuing with the mid-century
10:13modern vibe it's lovely guys know how much storage we have here built-in hidden gorgeous this adds a lot
10:21of value let's just talk about these stairs for one second I don't feel like I'm a hundred percent
10:27sold on that design it just feels a little bit rickety oh the stairs are not up against the wall
10:33what's holding this up well that's a good question steel it's magic that's the whole point that they
10:40appear to be floating so I have been waiting for a wow factor the wow factor oh wow this is

10:49is my wow factor the windows are just phenomenal they are they are aren't they yeah I feel like I'm
11:07in a Scandinavian chalet or something I kind of feel that way too yeah for a tree house yeah it's

11:19so this bathroom is wide open though no doors no door not even a pocket oh my gosh you're right
11:25there's no door I'm a little concerned what if the kid walks in or your mother-in-law what about

11:31steam from the shower just everything's going out never actually had that I don't know how I feel
11:36about this wet room the shower head just coming straight down with the bathtub right here it's very
11:41condensed this length of glass is really only about five feet are we containing the shower spray I'm not
11:47convinced we are I highly doubt it I think the water is going to spray us it's a wet mess

11:52it works perfectly fine there's definitely some spaces in here that are working for me and some
11:58not so much overall so far so good when they saw the bedroom they were like mind blown right well

12:42judges have one more house to check out we purchased this home it was a small little bungalow we knocked

12:49down and created this home I'm very impressed and I'm very happy with the decisions she made to bring
12:56this home together but to be a hundred percent fair there were times where I gave her a hard time
13:00especially with the greens in the office I thought it was risky yeah I said it's just paint
13:12yeah yeah Peter live a little the secret weapon of this house is our kitchen open space marble I
13:21don't have any formal design training so I want to see what other people think of my work do I

13:28what it takes to be a designer okay here comes the next house let's see what they got I do

13:41gothic vibes it's really moody that's my thing look at the chandelier whoa sparkly luxurious beautiful yes

15:42can never have enough storage if one day they put all that stuff in there and the next thing you

15:47guests are coming we've got to grab some stuff it's like oh no we gotta scramble grab some stuff
15:52well that's long-term storage in my house when we're prepping we're prepping before the people
15:57come so for me that wouldn't be that wouldn't detract from the functionality for me let's head
16:03upstairs all right back okay that's a pretty big window in standing in the bathtub right here actually
16:13Henry nobody can see you because it's a reflective window let's talk about that tile I love it right
16:20now will I love it in ten years possibly not like back in the 80s where everything was pink including
16:27the toilets did that age well not so much in ten years we're gonna be in a different home do

16:34again remodel remodel here we are this feels like a primary it's plain mmm I feel like they're missing an
16:42opportunity with a center fixture you could have added some judge into this room right I don't think they're
16:47blown away but uh it's simple they're not done that area yet yeah okay look at this gold hardware
16:57guys I like what it's doing for this space and I do love the arched feature that screen spa there's
17:04some really nice surprises in this house good job Peter Amanda I think they like your your tastes
17:08so I think uh I think we got this in the bag I think so too and just when you

17:52enough exaggeration like seriously I think we might have a bit of competition on our hands but I still
17:58feel like ours we have taken to another level in a lot of ways ours is I don't want to
18:06say better but
18:06I'm going to say better I think they're just jealous they are because that that's they have nothing else
18:11to say yeah I feel good I'm excited for the results well I guess we'll see yeah judges design function

18:18added value are your metrics time to pick which house is top of this block okay let's start with
18:25Sharon and Jason I love the added value with that beautiful backyard offering you so much
18:30relaxation the flow and function on the main floor was fantastic just walking into the house
18:37itself is already inviting and there are parts elements like the bathroom it's a resort in the
18:41city that's what makes this home very awesome to me I had a hard time connecting personally with
18:46them but as soon as we walked upstairs it was wonderful that photo was fantastic a major detractor
18:52for me in this house was the lack of design aspects in the primary bedroom and walk-in closet
19:01and Luana and Paul's house inside has been absolutely transformed into this mid-century modern
19:08masterpiece I felt like on first impression when we're walking in we were a little bit squeezed
19:13but I love the storage I think that's such an added value because it's so seamless I have to say
19:19that walking into the primary bedroom area was my wow factor of the day hands down nothing else came
19:25close to that but then when I saw the bathroom I was like I don't know how much I love
19:29this that
19:29ensuite it looks like a big wet water bath for me and how about Amanda and Peter's house outside of
19:37this
19:37beautiful gothic revival type house fabulous as soon as you walk in your eyes just go right to that
19:43chandelier it's absolutely stunning and having your office right off the entry is such a value
19:48add that deep green and the gold finishes amazing I would have loved to see that style throughout the
19:54house a little bit more great yeah yeah as soon as you move to the back of the house that's
19:59where you
19:59lost me yeah I'm with you the first thought in my head was that fire thing by the window oh

20:05definitely an eyesore I felt like I was gonna run into that couch going between the dining room and the
20:11kitchen okay I think the time has come we have to make a decision I don't know what my head

20:16spinning yeah here whose house will be crowned top of the block I don't like to sound too cocky
20:31but like I really do feel like our house should and could and will be the winner I think the
20:38judges
20:38got the house especially Andrea overall they were impressed and there was a lot of wow factor that
20:43was clear in the bedroom I feel very confident now the judges did respond to the bold colors it seemed
20:50like mostly positive feedback so I think we could win this the verdict is in I'm feeling pretty good
20:56about our chances in this competition but I guess we'll find out soon I have full confidence that we
21:01have a better built home better design home better everything home I think we nailed it I feel like we
21:09want it
21:24I feel very excited yeah we're happy we won obviously it's gratifying because we put so much work into
21:37this home especially for Sharon who designed most of it do you guys want to come in hang out in
21:42the back
21:43we do want to come in I mean you know did you bring your bathing suits there's no corners spared
21:47in this
21:47home it's stunning it's beautiful it works and the design overall and the custom cabinetry is very cohesive
21:54throughout the house they knocked it out of the park we thought we had the wow factor they did say
21:59the bedroom was mind-blowing so I'm I'm surprised I'm a bit disappointed I'm sad about not winning but
22:07it was a wonderful experience hearing the judges nail my thoughts exactly in every space of the home
22:14that was a win for us yeah 100% we're standing here in the backyard right behind us there's a
22:20memorial to
22:20my mom and we wouldn't have this house without her her essence is still here even though she's gone
22:25and we won this competition yeah we'll be proud of what we made and she'd be happy yep
