00:00Jason Siegel is winning an Emmy this year for Shrinking. That's the headline. Here's the
00:03explanation. Over the next couple of weeks you're going to start to see a lot of predictions and
00:07rankings and you're going to see some think pieces about which performances should be nominated and
00:10which ones don't deserve to be nominated. Yada yada yada. Some of that's going to be for me but
00:14certainly not all of it. But we're just at the beginning of FYC season so it's not a full-on
00:18barrage yet. Honestly this entire season of Shrinking has been incredible. There have been
00:21so many deeply emotional moments chased by hilarious jokes. I truly cannot remember the
00:26last time I laughed out loud as hard as I did at this line which is a hard line of
00:32dialogue to
00:33deliver with sincerity and earnestness and yet he did it perfectly. But then episode 10 the most
00:38recent episode came along and I could not look away from my television because of Jason Siegel's
00:42performance. Do you know how hard it is to convey the deepest amount of pain and sorrow that someone
00:47can feel but then also still be funny in that moment? That is exceptionally difficult and yet
00:54he navigates it with ease. And to take it a step further there were two moments in this episode
00:59which if you have not watched it please go watch it where I physically could see what was going
01:05through not Jason but Jimmy's mind. I could feel every nuanced emotion that was going through his
01:11body while his daughter was graduating, while he was thinking about his wife who wasn't there to see
01:16it, while he was navigating saying goodbye to his mentor and the person that he has looked up to for
01:21the last however many years. He hit every single beat and it really shows in this particular scene
01:28between Harrison Ford's character Paul and Jason Siegel's character Jimmy. Now I have waxed poetic
01:34about his performance but there's an actual mathematical reason that I think he's going to win
01:37as well. Last year Seth Rogen won for the studio. Now I could be wrong but I don't think they're
01:42coming
01:42back in time to make it for the Emmy deadline. Before that it was Jeremy Allen White for The Bear
01:47but the
01:47most recent season got pretty bad reviews. I don't even know. I'm skeptical that they're going to get
01:52nominated. Obviously I could be wrong but still. With Shrinking having quietly become one of the best
01:57comedies on television over the last few years I think that if there's ever a time for him to strike
02:02and take this award it's this year and it would be so so deserved. Apple TV you can have back
02:09-to-back
02:09winners in this category. Run Jason's campaign. Let us know in the comments what you thought of the
02:13most recent episode of Shrinking and if you're pulling for Jason this year at the Emmys.
02:17and we'll see you next time on Facebook.
02:17Thanks for listening.
