How will you remember Tiger Woods?
Transcript
00:01here's locked up the division closer to locking up the one seat uh-huh looking good absolutely i
00:07know tigers lost last night we'll find some time to get into that we're not it's again 162 i think
00:12the bullpen is going to be a strength this year i don't want to flip out because some rookie went
00:15yard off jansen we could blame jansen that'd be fun it hurts when you say it like that yeah the
00:21first loss of the year we can blame on jansen was last night uh let's talk tiger woods here we
00:26didn't
00:27really get to it early in the week it's not a local story but he's a big name and i'm
00:30curious
00:30how all of this stuff impacts his legacy and how you view him well the latest rollover and off
00:38so i mean i would say off court but you know what i mean off yeah of course it's it
00:45you go all the
00:46way back to the original incidents where hey his career is i mean it is rolling right along and
00:55everybody's talking about comparing him to the greatest of all time and there are still some
01:00people that believe he's the greatest golfer of all time i believe he could have created separation
01:05between him and anyone else that you want to compare him to if things hadn't gone off the rails
01:13and since then since the the whole you know sex addiction yeah that was a whole thing yeah like
01:21that's to me when when it kind of all started to get bumpy off course and now all of a
01:29sudden you're
01:29looking back going what could have been his legacy to me is the golfer who should have been the greatest
01:37of all time yeah some will still argue he is because the pga wins but majors are what we really
01:42measure
01:42and he's behind jack and he should have passed jack and it created separation that's why i'm talking
01:48about it if it doesn't go off the rails no debate he just is obviously the greatest golfer of all
01:52time
01:52he's the guy who should have been the greatest golfer of all time that's his legacy you know his body
01:57betrayed him in some ways but he betrayed himself yeah you know i didn't think he's chasing any more
02:03majors at 50 years old but this just reinforces like the tumultuous life he lived right away from golf
02:10could he have had that one more major in his 50s had it not been for not this excellence but
02:17the
02:17previous one yeah i know and some of this is like when you have to have those like spinal surgery
02:22like
02:22when your back's all jacked up like that was always going to plague him and it's hard to i mean
02:28the
02:28master's achievement he had years ago is one of the great achievements in all of sports but that could
02:33have been the cherry on top as he's already passed jack instead it's still short yeah if he's if he's
02:42not messing around with perkins waitresses and talking about sex addiction and messing around
02:46with drugs and pills and flipping cars he's the guy that should have been the greatest golfer of all time
02:51and and it's it's it's just disappointing because the the fan base that has supported him and there
02:58are still fans that no matter what happens off course no matter what happens outside of the realm
03:05of golf are still going to believe in tiger woods and and there's nothing wrong with that but he
03:13continues to put himself and others at risk and it you can't talk about tiger woods and his legacy
03:20without bringing up the things that have happened outside of playing the game of golf
03:26like do you view him negatively because of this stuff like what is your
03:33because i think a lot of people love the guy but does this does this make it so you can't
03:37love him
03:39um because it's wasted potential and it's stupid shenanigans that kept him from being that greatest
03:44golfer of all time that's a it's a very complicated question to answer because do i view him negatively
03:56as a golfer no do i think that there were more there was a lot more that he could have
04:01accomplished
04:01sure but i mean damn he was good in his in his in the sweet spot like he was as
04:08good as it ever
04:08got he first took the sport by storm yeah late 90s masters early 2000s dominance i mean he made golf
04:16cool imagine that golf is like notoriously like an old fuddy-duddy game yeah he made golf cool
04:21that's part of his legacy too sure that's all part of the legacy but when you when you
04:26complicate it as a human being and some of the challenges some of the demons that he has brought
04:31on himself what was the initial question do you view him negatively
04:41it's it's getting to that because he's been very fortunate that in in some of these incidences
04:50where he's been driving under the influence that he hasn't hurt anyone else very good point
04:55i mean yeah it's and certainly if he had oh you that would completely change the course of how you
05:02view tiger woods yeah well and i think even put yourself in that positions enough to tarnish the
05:07way people feel about him text coming in athletic career versus personal life i can separate the two
05:13he's still the goat scott and tecumseh
05:20why can't it be that perkins waitresses and sex edition is what made him that good once he quit
05:25doing it that's when his career went downhill get perkins back as a sponsor get him back to major wins
05:33you guys are great on the text let's get to the phones pat you're on 97 one
05:37morning guys hey uh i was just just thinking about uh your little thing about should have been
05:42uh when i look at tiger woods i kind of think is mike tyson along the same parallel as tiger
05:48woods
05:48when we think about those two you know at their peak a lot of people thought they were the greatest
05:53the best that they've ever been and then as john just said like the demons took over and
05:58never quite recovered if you put them in the room i don't know who i'd want to hang out with
06:02more
06:03tyson or woods uh nowadays but it's just something to think about like those two guys
06:08hit so much uh ahead of themselves and they just they never quite got there yeah they're in a weird
06:13category where they're not like there's plenty of athletes that didn't even accomplish anything
06:19and wasted their talent like these guys are still super accomplished but they were capable of being
06:24the undisputed greatest to ever do it and they didn't get there the greatest that never was is kind
06:31of the conversation right yeah and it's i mean you could have that conversation about who's the
06:37greatest golfer of all time is it jack is it tiger and you could hey pros and cons on both
06:42sides just
06:43default to the majors now there may be golf heads who you know want to get into the the technicalities
06:47and the just event over event over event tigers better fine sure but my initial point was
06:54i think there was there was a point in in tiger's career before all of this started happening
07:02where he was on pace or on a path where he would have been to your point the undisputed
07:10greatest golfer of all time where he could have created such a separation between him and jack
07:16between him and anyone else and him and anyone else that is is is to come yeah some more texts
07:24phelps out of the pool issues kobe off the court issues pete rose gambling all considered greats
07:30in their sport the body of work for tiger speaks for itself well he's certainly a great yeah he's
07:35just not unequivocally unanimously the greatest golfer of all time think of all the players
07:42athletes who have similar or worse incidents that you'll never hear about i feel like everything
07:47gets reported these days i mean i'd say stuff doesn't slip through the cracks but certainly but
07:52when you are tiger woods i profile mike tyson when you're these guys like it's it's it's going to
07:59be front page news can you imagine being the king of a sport a no doubt goat and you let
08:07pain pills
08:07and ugly ihop waitresses take that away from you roy and clarkston yes perkins not i yeah let's get
08:15it right here uh from one of the greatest golfers of all time to just one of the most talented
08:19greatness comes with more than just a good golf game he got in his own way sean in ann arbor
08:26the guy has some mental health issues and wellness issues wish him the best it's funny how you blame
08:30him for his choices when clearly he has issues eric in bloomfield so i would who you're supposed to
08:37blame i i would equate when you're going to talk about the greatness like who's the greatest golfer
08:41i equate it to the core how you we judge quarterbacks like brady's got the most super
08:46bowls he's the goat it's like it's a for me that's a fact i would say the same thing about
08:51nicholas you
08:52can talk about tiger's potential or he would have got there shoulda and coulda but he didn't i think
08:57it's the majors that determine it all this prevented him from getting the majors because i think he would
09:04have got it tiger questions out there 248-539-9797 we'll get to rag now at 902 league people around
09:12the league taking their shots at the lions did they make a mistake it's 97-1
