00:02Companies that do not adapt, they will fall behind, compared to the ones that are transforming today.
00:08We will consider today that no company can survive without integrating a climate component in its business strategy.
00:1825 years of disclosure. CDP, the world's largest environmental reporting platform, recently marked its quarter of a century anniversary in
00:27Paris.
00:27The key takeaway? In an increasingly uncertain world, climate and nature data are more critical than ever.
00:39More than 22,000 companies in over 1,000 cities globally now report their environmental impact data through CDP.
00:49Reporting disclosure frameworks like CDP are, in fact, immensely valuable to business.
00:54It helps you assess where you stand. Each year, new questions help us, you know, push our ambitions further, challenge
01:01us and help us improve.
01:03It makes us smarter. You can very often find smarter, more creative solutions when you try to reconcile environmental impact
01:10targets and growth.
01:12Climate change and nature loss are rapidly reshaping how businesses operate.
01:18Every business that exists has a dependency on nature in some form or another.
01:24They depend upon water, fresh air, clean air, healthy soil, solid ground.
01:30Therefore, if these services degrade or run out or their cost increases, it affects your business.
01:35So it's a simple matter of the things that we rely upon.
01:38We cannot assume they last forever at the price that they're provided.
01:42The latest research by CDP shows that those companies turning environmental ambition into action are gaining a real competitive advantage.
01:52In Europe leaders, the businesses that achieve the highest score cut emissions in the past 12 months 60% faster
01:59than their peers.
02:00A move that unlocked 67 billion euros in financial opportunities.
02:06Why do companies disclose is the question, I think, that we all have to keep in the front of our
02:11mind.
02:11And the reason why companies disclose is not because they would like to have data.
02:15It's because they need to use that data in order to be able to convince their customers that they are
02:21the companies to work with,
02:22to keep them in their investable universe.
02:25So this is not a burden. This is a benefit and it's absolutely core to doing business.
02:30CDP's latest corporate health check also put Europe in top spot globally.
02:3516% of companies reached leadership level in climate just in front of businesses in the Asia-Pacific region and
02:42well ahead of Latin and North America.
02:45We're delighted to see that Europe and Asia-Pacific is really moving from strength to strength.
02:51I think that the US is lagging behind. At the same time, those disclosures are still coming in.
02:56In Europe, we see more and more pension funds that become even more demanding.
03:02We challenge them to be even more efficient in the ability to monitor well and challenge the companies well on
03:12their climate strategies.
03:13So that's rather positive.
03:14We have a responsibility as a leader in our industry to engage all our ecosystems.
03:19For example, we ask our suppliers, top suppliers of L'Oréal, to join CDP and disclose in CDP so we
03:26can measure their progress on the CDP ratings.
03:30The direction of travel for many here then is clear. Companies that adapt and build resilience will thrive long term.
03:39I think we're debating not the why but the how. And how do we move faster? How do we use
03:45the tools and the data that's available?
03:47I'm obviously optimistic there's still many people who are not doing enough quickly enough and clearly enough and we need
03:53to help them understand the benefits of doing so.
03:55We need to stop thinking about sustainability only as a compliance but we need to think of sustainability as an
04:02enabler for more innovation, for building more resilience and for creating possibilities for growth in the long term.
04:19The global non-profit's annual Europe awards celebrate the continent's most transparent businesses.
04:25If we think back 25 years, disclosure of climate data did not exist at all.
04:31So for the last 25 years, CDP has been working with not only those that are in the environmental ecosystem
04:38but those that are in the financial ecosystem, the economic ecosystem and the policy making ecosystem.
04:44I think we should be proud.
04:46More than a quarter of a century on, CDP continues to play a key role in driving progress towards a
04:53more sustainable future.
