00:15Although the government denied such plans two years ago, a source said that Railway Assets Corporation,
00:21the government entity which owns the building, recently informed the KTMB management of its intention to relocate the headquarters.
00:29Transport Minister Lok Siu Fouk had denied plans to force KTMB to move out,
00:34saying only an offer had been made for it to relocate free of charge to Manara RAC,
00:39built in 2023 on Jalan Sultan Sambanthin in Brickfields.
00:43He also dismissed talk that YTL Corporation, which owns Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur,
00:49located next to the headquarters, was planning to take over and redevelop the building into a high-end hotel.
00:55Lok said it would be preserved as a heritage building under government ownership through RAC.
01:01Plans to move the headquarters from the current building were first announced in 2010,
01:06but fizzled out after protests by RUM.
01:10Nevertheless, speculation persists that several private companies have been eyeing the building,
01:15a well-known Kuala Lumpur landmark built in the early 20th century for redevelopment into a high-end hotel.
