00:02it is a gorgeous day at the show and the arena you might notice is very green which is a
00:07great
00:07sign because the competition down here runs for 12 days and there are a lot of horses that are
00:12going to walk over it you can see behind me apart from the the crazy rides going around that the
00:17kids are enjoying outside the arena there are some Shetland ponies and today you'll see those
00:23beautiful ponies just being led around the field because they're just assessing the horses for the
00:28first three days and then the riders will get on and do their competition in the remaining 12 days
00:32of the show so down here we've also seen stock horses being assessed there are harness riders
00:37light harness there'll be heavy horses later in the show so an incredible smorgasbord if you like
00:43of animals that will be on display in the arena it's it's a big event this one and a lot
00:49of animals
00:49being assessed as champions in their class which can mean a big deal for the owners and who doesn't
00:53love a Shetland pony they're just gorgeous in the background uh there I want to ask you though
00:59like a lot of these exhibitors are coming from near and far around the state how is the fuel and
01:04maybe
01:05even the country indeed how is the fuel crisis affecting some of those competitors
01:11yes this is kind of the biggest horse event maybe the biggest um show event really in the country
01:17and they are coming from all over Australia I spoke to a cattle producer yesterday came from WA
01:22he said his fuel costs have doubled so he's bringing livestock from the west it cost him almost
01:27six thousand dollars this time around normally it's a five thousand dollar round trip so if you're a
01:32horse competitor and there's one from WA here competing she brought six horses so she's paying
01:38I'm guessing about the same in fuel ten or twelve thousand dollars and then it's a thousand dollars per horse
01:44to compete and then you've got your accommodation and your parking your food it does rack up but on
01:51the flip side you can make really good money like if your stock horse is a champion in its class
01:56on average they sell for fifteen thirty forty thousand dollars but a champion might go for sixty eighty or
02:02a hundred thousand dollars and if you're competing in the rodeo which is on here that's a fantastic
02:07thing to come and watch the prize pulls eighty thousand dollars for the rodeo twenty five thousand for the
02:12camp draft and they actually sell livestock here at the show and the total turnover is eighteen million
02:18dollars so you know it can be well worth your trip okay and what are the other highlights today
02:25well it's a big day in the food dome the cooking classes are decided so you know you can see
02:31the
02:31district exhibits while you're there there's a bird championship being announced today there's almost
02:37two two and a half thousand birds in the bird pavilion everything from the standard chicken to the
02:43most extraordinary plumage that you will ever see and then later on tonight dave mansion's show will
02:49be on in the arena there are some really exciting developments this year with the show come at
02:54night time because his horses will be lit up they'll be riding through silks there's a lot of light
03:00displays on as part of the big grand parades in the arena and at other events during the show
03:05so yeah there's a lot going on here the young auctioneers will be calling it out
03:09in the amphitheater so uh yeah it's a don't miss event but you could come any day and have a
03:15really
03:15great time
