Sydney’s Royal Easter Show begins tomorrow and runs 5 days

Sydney's Royal Easter Show starts tomorrow when the country comes to the city. It's five days full of animals, a new black-smiths exhibit and the return of some fan favourites.

00:00Hi, welcome to the Sydney Royal Easter Show. We've had a bit of a sneak peek today. It's

00:07incredible as always. But we started the day at Jamison Station. This is a new thing, right,

00:12and where you can get your hands dirty. So you can do blacksmithing, you can milk a cow,

00:16you can pan for gold, you can hug and cuddle some beautiful baby goats. The goats were just so cute

00:23today. I almost died. And the Country Hour will be broadcasting from there tomorrow. So we'd love

00:29you to come and say hello. It's our 80th anniversary year of the Country Hour, the longest running

00:34radio program in the Southern Hemisphere. And we love agriculture, we love animals. Now

00:39the other thing that's really different this year is the Canadian logging team. Those guys

00:43are crazy. We have a really huge tradition of logging in Australia. And there's an incredible

00:50competition, a global competition around that. But these guys do log rolling as well as axe

00:56throwing. And it just strikes me as incredibly dangerous. We met one of the young female members

01:01of their team. That's Melissa Dimitri from Connecticut. Freshman year in high school, I joined

01:06the Womogo Timber Team. And ever since then, I loved it. I did it in college. And then after in college,

01:14that's actually how I found out about the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show. So as soon as I graduated,

01:19I went to University of New Hampshire. As soon as I graduated that, I started doing the shows and I absolutely loved it.

01:25Went down to the arena after that and spent some time watching the incredible teams in terms of the stunt

01:32machines, the street performers. It's really an outstanding exhibition. The fireworks can't be missed.

01:39But we also caught up with Dave Manchon from Rooftop Express. Now he's been here before a few times.

01:44He has an incredible radio show, really. And he's also got a herd of bison. And last year I saw this herd.

01:50They've got bigger. And so watching them parade, stampede, really, around the arena is one of the highlights

01:57of the show. If you've watched Yellowstone, you will want to see that herd of bison around the arena.

02:03And the other thing that we want to mark this year is the 125th anniversary of the district exhibits.

02:09Now, the district exhibits is that competition in the food dome. There are big displays featuring regions

02:15all around New South Wales. And this has been a really outstanding competition over the years.

02:20You want to have a close look at the vegetables that are on produce. There's tens of thousands of vegetables.

02:26250 people involved in setting up those exhibitions. And they're judged on the food.

02:32And there's stuff there that you won't ever see in a supermarket. So there's huge pumpkins,

02:38huge watermelons, huge cucumbers, the kind of stuff that they used to feed livestock and was critical

02:44in the early days of the colony. So it's time to reflect on the incredible history of the district

02:50exhibits. 125 years this year is what they're marking. And I think the other thing to remember

02:57about the Sydney Royal is to show, we love the Agside. This is a unique show for its agricultural

03:02participation. One of the biggest and the best in the world, I'm told. So we'll see you

03:07at the Sydney Royal Easter show this year, starting tomorrow.
