00:00The government has dropped its appeal against a court order
00:02requiring it to hand a classified report to the family of missing pastor Raymond Koe.
00:08Senior Federal Counsel Nurul Farhana Khalid informed a three-member bench,
00:13led by Justice Supang Lian, of the decision on Wednesday.
00:16She said the withdrawal followed the recent filing of a notice of discontinuance.
00:21The court subsequently struck out the appeal
00:23and awarded 15,000 ringgit in costs to Koe's family.
00:27The government had asked for costs to be waived,
00:30but the family's lawyer, Michelle Wong, pushed back,
00:32noting the considerable effort put into responding to the appeal
00:35and that fresh evidence had already been filed last month.
00:38The case stems from the abduction of Koe on the 13th of February, 2017.
00:44His wife, Susanna Liu So-yok,
00:46filed a civil suit against the police and the government
00:49over both his disappearance
00:50and what she described as the authorities' mishandling of the investigation.
00:55Last November, the High Court ruled that the police and the government
00:58bore liability for Koe's disappearance,
01:00ordering the payment of more than 37 million ringgit in damages.
01:04The Attorney General's chambers filed a notice of appeal just one day later.
