00:00The Kuala Lumpur High Court has ordered the government and police to pay over 31 million ringgit
00:05in damages to the family of missing pastor Raymond Ko over the state's involvement in his abduction
00:11eight years ago. In his decision on Wednesday, Justice Su Tiangju said one or more of the
00:18defendants, who are current or former police officers, had acted under orders in carrying
00:23out the abduction. The court also ordered the government to pay 10,000 ringgit per day
00:28to Ko's family from the date of his disappearance in February 2017 until he is found. Additionally,
00:364 million ringgit in damages and 250,000 ringgit in costs were awarded to the family. Ko, who founded
00:44the NGO Harapan community, was abducted by armed men along Jalan SS 4B-10 in Petaling Jaya. CCTV footage
00:54showed at least 15 men in tactical gear and three black SUVs in what was described as
00:59a professional-style abduction. Meanwhile, in a separate ruling, the High Court awarded
01:06three million ringgit in damages to the wife of missing activist Amri Chemat, who disappeared in
01:122016. Justice Su found the government liable for Amri's disappearance and ordered police to reopen
01:19their investigation and report progress to the Attorney General every two months. The court also
01:25ruled that authorities had violated Nur Hayati Mohamed Arifin's right to life by failing to conduct
01:31an effective investigation and wrongly classifying the case as a missing person instead of an abduction.
