02:04He said, I called. No answer.
02:06Eventually, he said, at some point, I called Dad.
02:09Dad says, I'm on my way.
02:11Dad gets here. It's a lot.
02:12They go in, kind of mill through the house.
02:15Contract to see the victim laid on the floor.
02:17You know, a lot of blood.
02:19Quite a bit of blood.
02:21The victim, John Christopher Fender.
02:2557-year-old John Christopher Fender, known as Chris,
02:29was born and raised in Tulsa.
02:31He worked as an insurance agent
02:33and spent much of his spare time working on his home and cars.
02:37He leaves behind a large family,
02:39including his father and stepmother,
02:42sister, and several nieces and nephews.
02:48Victim is in this house.
02:49Okay.
02:50They got the warrant.
02:51The team secured a warrant to search Chris's home.
03:00And here is really where everything's hurt, I believe.
03:11So, stabbed.
03:13Chris was stabbed more than 70 times.
03:18There's better.
03:21Wow.
03:23There's a lot of blood on the ground.
03:26Over here, there's a lot more.
03:30It is everywhere.
03:36These shoes, I believe, were a part of it.
03:39Oh, wow.
03:40And there's a knife that's sitting on top of that sink down there.
03:49A second knife and a bloody T-shirt
03:51are discovered in the kitchen trash can.
03:54Is there any cameras supposed to be in the house?
03:57There are.
03:58Chris has surveillance cameras inside and outside of his home.
04:03Why don't you take it?
04:04It's a passcode log.
04:06The system will have to be accessed by the cyber unit.
04:11Thank you so much.
04:16I got the contractor here.
04:17He said he's willing to come down if we need to interview him.
04:20Dad is very, very emotional.
04:22And I understand.
04:24You know, you walk in and find your son like that.
04:25The suspect is Blake McDonald.
04:30Chris's father told responding officers that he believes Chris's ex-boyfriend, Blake,
04:35may be responsible for his son's murder.
04:59Last night, around 9 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Chris's house.
05:04After a clerk at a marijuana dispensary reported that Blake had come into the store
05:08and made threatening statements.
05:11Did he make contact with the victim at 9?
05:13Nope.
05:14Did he knock on the door?
05:15Tried to go around back and look.
05:17Didn't make contact with anybody.
05:19All right.
05:20All right.
05:26My name is Nathan Schilling.
05:27I'm going to be the lead detective on this case.
05:29Schilling speaks with Chris's father.
05:31This is my partner, Detective Warren.
05:34He's already spoken to you.
05:36You've been around some and I know it.
05:40But I doubt you've ever, ever seen anybody more pissed than I am right now.
05:46Ever.
05:47Doctor told me I understand why.
05:50Totally understand why.
05:51I broke 67 bones.
05:53I've had knives stuck in me.
05:54I've been hit with lightning twice.
05:56I've towed three cars, 140 miles an hour, stupid me, when I was young.
06:01And brother, all the that I've been through the winter.
06:06You don't want to get an equal list.
06:11You don't want to get an equal list.
06:14I'm sorry, man.
06:15I'm sorry.
06:15You really are.
06:17This isn't how it's supposed to be.
06:18No.
06:19Parents aren't supposed to bury their kids.
06:21I'm so sorry, sir.
06:27I'll say this, and I said it to the other police officers.
06:31He's been making me nervous the last two weeks.
06:34Chris's neighbor speaks up about Blake.
06:36I never had a conversation with him because he was always a little bit strange.
06:39I saw him at the gym a couple weeks ago, and he was talking to himself and being weird
06:44and pacing around, wasn't even using any equipment.
06:46I'll talk to anybody, but I just kept my distance with him.
06:53Then...
06:53Suspect card, 2006 Lincoln Sedan, maroon in color, AXR.
06:57The team gets the tag number for Blake's car.
07:02It checks back to Blake's name, mother's address, and this is mom's opening.
07:07Someone else already went out there and made contact.
07:10Officers spoke to members of Blake's family, but no one has seen or heard from him.
07:15You got guys moving around right now, kind of looking for the car?
07:18Yes, sir.
07:19A statewide bolo has been issued for Blake's car.
07:22We got a tag number, which is good.
07:24We just got a look at it.
07:31One hour in.
07:33It's been kind of progressively getting worse over, like, the last month.
07:35Another neighbor approaches a shilling about Blake's behavior.
07:40I watched him just last week.
07:41He sat out here just walking back and forth into the carport, just yelling and talking to himself,
07:45and sitting there having a full-blown argument with nobody.
07:49There was something definitely wrong with him.
07:50I don't know exactly what it was, but he definitely needs some help.
07:55All right.
07:57So, I think my partner already said you'd be willing to go downtown and visit with us?
08:02Yeah.
08:03Chris's contractor agrees to be interviewed at headquarters.
08:07We can go together if you want.
08:09You come with me?
08:10Oh, yeah.
08:10Yeah.
08:11Chris's father also agrees to talk downtown.
08:14We'll talk to you each individually and get your story.
08:17I don't have a story, and I know who's done it, and you know who's done it.
08:23Dad immediately thought that Blake was the person that did this, so we're leaning towards that.
08:28We don't necessarily know yet, but we'll find out.
08:31We're going to find Blake.
08:43Blake Matthew McDonald.
08:4529-year-old Blake McDonald, an aspiring actor from Tulsa, works the night shift at a home improvement store.
08:52He has no prior convictions.
08:54It would appear that, I mean, there's really no other suspect other than his significant other at this point.
09:00We still have to dot our eyes and cross our T's because we don't want to jeopardize anything,
09:05so we're going to holler at the victim's dad and the contractor that was working in the yard,
09:11try to get a little bit more of the back story.
09:13We'll go get this rolling.
09:16I know if we spoke a little bit out there, and we got a kind of summary of what you
09:21saw and what happened today.
09:23Detective Reggie Warren starts with Chris's contractor.
09:26You were over the house today doing some landscaping.
09:29Concrete work.
09:29Concrete work, stuff like that.
09:31How long have you known the victim?
09:34Ten years.
09:36Maybe longer than that.
09:39What kind of guy would you describe him as?
09:43Good person.
09:45Kind person.
09:49Very witty.
09:50You know, he had a real good sense of humor about him.
09:53Great guy.
09:54Great guy.
09:55Okay.
09:57Today you got to the house.
09:59But what time did you get there?
10:00I got there this morning around 10 o'clock.
10:03And I just got my tools out and went to work.
10:08Chris had not been out of his house all day.
10:12So, I called him.
10:14Okay, you didn't get any answers.
10:16I didn't get any answers.
10:17And then, I done some more work.
10:20And I called him again.
10:22Got no answer.
10:25So, then, I called his dad.
10:27And I said, hey.
10:29Have you heard from Chris?
10:30I can't get a hold of him.
10:31I said, his cars are here, but I hadn't seen him all day.
10:34He said, that's strange.
10:35Something's wrong.
10:36I'll be there and we'll check on it.
10:38He was about to put the key in the door.
10:40And I said, hey, why don't we try that door and see if it's locked first.
10:44And when he opened it up, something told me for sure then something's not right because Chris does not leave
10:51his door unlocked even when he's in the house.
10:55So, then, I hollered for Chris.
10:57Didn't get no response.
10:59And I turned the corner to go into the office.
11:02And on the door frame there, it was just covered in blood.
11:08I went around and I noticed he's laying there on his back.
11:13And that's when I ran out of the house and I said, I'm going to call an ambulance.
11:20So, just kind of describe the relationship between Chris and Blake.
11:24I guess the word would be tumultuous.
11:29They were in a relationship.
11:31I know they were having lots of arguments about different things.
11:35Chris had kicked Blake out for drinking and drugging and cheating on him.
11:42I feel like probably if anybody was to do it, it would be Blake.
12:02I didn't like Blake.
12:05He's just straight.
12:13Always pacing, talking to himself, very disturbing.
12:18That's not normal.
12:20I really appreciate you coming in.
12:22Yeah.
12:26I feel for his dad.
12:28His dad's never going to be the same.
12:29I feel for his dad as well.
12:31I feel for all of you guys.
12:35In the next room.
12:37I knew Chris was dead.
12:40I knew it.
12:42Schilling speaks with Chris's father.
12:45Yeah.
12:47Just...
12:48Sometimes you just know when something's not right.
12:50I knew Blake was going to kill him.
12:55But I always thought Chris could protect himself.
12:59Chris was a father figure to him.
13:02So, is Blake considerably younger than Chris?
13:05Yes.
13:0730 years ago.
13:10He's trying to help him.
13:12He's trying to guide him.
13:13Blake had no friends.
13:15No relationship with a father figure.
13:18Very little relationship with his mother.
13:20But he always had these...
13:23He talked crazy in his head.
13:26Chris ever expressed any concerns about his behavior to you?
13:31Yeah.
13:32He told me he...
13:34He's constantly pacing.
13:37Talking to himself.
13:40He said he needs to get some mental help.
13:44Chris is always talking to the guy he's wanting to help.
13:47He's hoping that he can talk to him.
13:50And he'll listen and kind of mentally straighten himself out.
13:58He took on a project, Chris did, if you will.
14:01He's got a good heart.
14:04How long have Chris and Blake known each other?
14:08Well, it has to be he was 19.
14:11Blake was 19?
14:12Yes.
14:13He says Chris met Blake 10 years ago.
14:16And I don't know how they met.
14:20So, there's no one else that lives there besides Chris and Blake?
14:25Blake, yes, that's sometimes.
14:27Blake's here sometimes, sometimes he's gone?
14:29Chris kicked him out, okay?
14:31He had to call his clothes in the car, he's been gone.
14:33When was this?
14:35He says Chris asked Blake to move out three or four months ago.
14:39So, at some point, he let him back in, though, because in there...
14:42It sounded like Blake's been around the last couple of weeks.
14:47Yeah, he's been there off and on.
14:49He was sleeping in his car.
14:51Chris wouldn't let him in.
14:52Are you aware of either of them ever mess around with any kind of drugs?
14:56Yeah, Blake all the time.
14:57Not Chris ever.
14:59Okay.
15:01I mean, obviously, our goal is to go find Blake at this point.
15:03And I appreciate you coming down here and visiting with me.
15:20Four hours in.
15:21Talking to the officers of the scene, they told me that a call had come in last night
15:26from the dispensary here south of downtown.
15:30Blake had been in there, and the worker called in at, like, nine
15:35and said that he had made some homicidal and suicidal statements.
15:39They rattled her.
15:41Pablo made contact with her, got her to come downtown and talk to us.
15:52Hello.
15:53Hi.
15:53I'm going to go on a limb and say that one of my partners talked to you about what this
15:57was about.
15:59Mm-hmm.
15:59Okay.
16:01Tell me what happened, to the best of your recollection, all right?
16:05Okay.
16:07Um, he came into the dispensary.
16:10He was moving, like, very erratically.
16:13Like, he's been like that the past couple of times he's been in the store.
16:17Like, I recognized him when I pulled his name out.
16:19He sketches me out a little bit.
16:22He said he needed dime cards, and then he started talking about how he was going to
16:28go kill someone.
16:32And he said at one point he was going to axe someone.
16:37He said something like, you're going to see this on the news tomorrow.
16:41And that's when I was like, I have to call the police.
16:58It took me, like, 20 minutes to make the call because we were busy with other people.
17:08Did it sound like he was going to go and do something to more than one person?
17:15No, because he made it sound like he was going to hurt himself, too.
17:19Like, he was going to either kill himself or he was going to die somehow.
17:24I'm like, I'm going to die, too, or I want to die tonight.
17:30Okay.
17:30Well, thank you for calling.
17:32I know this has to be hard for you.
17:34It's, uh, not an everyday occurrence.
17:38Hmm.
17:39All right, we'll, uh, get you out of here.
17:46That girl's in shock.
17:48She was scared to death.
17:49She is.
17:50She feels real bad.
17:51Her boss is like, I'm getting to get a video.
17:53Detective Pablo Zuniga pulls up surveillance video he collected from the dispensary.
17:59That's him getting there.
18:00He's running in.
18:02Blake arrives at 8.22 p.m.
18:07So he's walked in.
18:09He's incredibly agitated.
18:11All kinds of movements everywhere.
18:14This isn't sped up or anything.
18:16This is his real speed.
18:19He's whacked out.
18:21The clerk is saying that he's very agitated and angry and just making statements about wanting to hurt people with
18:29an axe.
18:32He mentioned that he was also going to die.
18:35Or kill himself.
18:40He does, like, a double gun move to his head right there.
18:49Over here, he starts making stabbing motions to his own neck.
18:55Poor girl.
18:56It's like, I just want to get you out of here.
19:00Those are the shoes that's in the house with blood.
19:08That's pretty good.
19:11And here he's premeditating.
19:13I'm going to go.
19:14Oh, yeah.
19:15This might be one of the most premeditated murders I've had.
19:25Blake leaves the dispensary at 8.27 p.m.
19:28And then his vehicle hits flop, going westbound on Admiral Harger, right at 21.03.
19:34At 9.03 p.m., 36 minutes after Blake left the dispensary, his car was picked up by license plate
19:41cameras driving away from Chris's house.
19:44I wonder if he went home, and then he killed him, and then he fled the scene.
19:49The employee from the dispensary called in at 20.52.
19:53According to her, it was about a 20-minute time lapse.
19:55He gave his address.
19:57Officers went by the house.
19:59Body cam footage from yesterday.
20:01McNeil pulls up body cam from the officer sent to check on Blake.
20:10This officer's checking the perimeter, trying to get in contact with some of the house.
20:14Nobody's answering the door.
20:15I'm thinking, our victim's in the house dead already.
20:18But this officer doesn't know.
20:19I mean, there's no reason for him to think anything's going on in the house.
20:22He walked to each side of the house, looked over the fence.
20:30He knocked me off.
20:31I mean, there's no reason for him to do anything more.
20:38He got there, really, right at 21.01.
20:4121, close to 21.02.
20:43And his vehicle's hitting the flood down the street at 21.03.
20:48So I think that's when he's fleeing the scene.
20:51The officer arrived at the house one minute after license plate cameras captured Blake's car leaving the scene.
20:57So he barely missed him?
20:58Barely missed him.
21:00And so, is it possible it could have happened in that?
21:04That's a small window?
21:06I think it had to happen in that window.
21:08If he's got the shoes on at the dispensary and they're clean, he's not covered in blood.
21:13I think his phone data will tell the tale.
21:17Yeah.
21:18Just waiting on AT&T?
21:20McNeil sent a warrant to Blake's phone company requesting his location records.
21:24We should hopefully get some data hopefully by tomorrow.
21:28Nice.
21:29Hopefully.
21:30Hopefully.
21:35Seven hours in.
21:36The suspect called in 3.59 a.m.
21:40He said that his roommate just tried to stand.
21:44Dispatch informs the team that Blake called 911 eight hours after the murder from near Stringtown, Oklahoma.
21:51Stringtown's like an hour and a half, two hours?
21:53Two and a half hours.
21:54Two hours.
21:55Stringtown is about 125 miles south of Tulsa.
22:02Tulsa, please.
22:03Um, me and my boyfriend got into some sort of opentation.
22:09Like, he tried stabbing me.
22:13I drove away to, you know, get to fresh air.
22:17I was in shock.
22:30What is your name?
22:32Blake McDonald.
22:34Blake, I just don't know what happened to him.
22:42She was okay when I left.
22:44What location are you at?
22:45I need to send an officer to speak with you and take the report.
22:49I am in the train, like, Tulsa in Stringtown right now.
22:53Okay.
22:54So, do you plan on coming back to Tulsa?
22:57I don't have a car.
22:58I hit it here.
22:59I'm on the side of the highway, uh, walking to Stringtown.
23:03All right, Blake.
23:04What I'm going to do, I'm going to put this in and see if an officer or a supervisor will
23:09receive you at all.
23:10All right.
23:10Thank you.
23:11No problem.
23:12A supervisor called Blake, but he didn't answer.
23:15I wonder if somebody maybe came in contact with that car.
23:19I already called them.
23:20Zuniga reached out to the local sheriff's department and asked them to look for Blake's car.
23:25Their assistant chief called back and said, if we run into the car, we'll give you a call back.
23:29But their dispatch said, according to their records, they had no, nobody out asking for help for hitting a deer
23:36or anything last night.
23:39He called the police last night and said that his boyfriend tried to stab him.
23:45To me, I feel like the call is self-serving.
23:49I would argue that, you know, he just called to try to give himself some sort of self-defense claim.
23:54Eight hours in, the team still has no leads on Blake's whereabouts.
23:58I would be concerned for the safety of others at this point.
24:02Talking to witnesses, he's got some abnormal behaviors.
24:07Sometimes there's medical issues for that, and other times it's drug-induced.
24:11And then sometimes, which is probably more common than not, a combination of the two.
24:18You know, there's a lot of struggles with both of those in society, and when someone that has some mental
24:24health issues exacerbates it with drug use, then, you know, it's kind of a tempest.
24:39One hour later.
24:40So Margo, doing what Margo does, she did an offline search on Blake and found out that a deputy down
24:49outside of Kiowa ran Blake.
24:52Crime analyst Margo Hayne-Bell discovers that around midnight last night, a deputy found Blake's car on the side of
24:59the road in Pittsburgh County, Oklahoma.
25:02So that's probably 100 miles south of here.
25:06The deputy said, yeah, the car was disabled, parked on the side of the road.
25:11They found him walking down the highway with a laceration to his face.
25:15Blake says he hit a deer.
25:17The deputy gave him a ride to Kiowa and dropped him off at a convenience store.
25:22Blake got a ride from the deputy four hours before he called 911 from Stringtown to report that his boyfriend
25:29had tried to stab him.
25:31Stringtown's probably another 30 miles down the highway.
25:34You know, if Blake had really been assaulted, the first opportunity he comes in contact with law enforcement, you know,
25:41when you think it might be something important to tell them.
25:44But the deputy said when he asked Blake what happened to his face, Blake said the deer kicked him in
25:50the face.
25:50So I'm going to later decide that maybe it's in my best interest to try to get ahead of this
25:56and at least put a self-defense story up.
25:59So I think it's pretty clear that it's just trying to cover his tracks when he makes that phone call.
26:11So according to phone stuff, he's somewhere in Texas.
26:16Blake's phone location records finally come in somewhere in Dallas, Fort Worth, airport area, somewhere in there.
26:24That was at 902 p.m.
26:26Blake's phone was last picked up by cell towers near Dallas four hours ago.
26:32They're hoping to do to fly to Afghanistan.
26:35We called Dallas, Fort Worth, police department, airport police, and they're checking their terminals.
26:39But I think there's hotels around the terminals.
26:43This place is so huge.
26:45There's a lot of different areas he could go, a lot of ground to cover.
26:49So Sergeant Stiles is going to reach out to some federal agents and see if they can't help us and
26:53figure out where he went.
26:55Okay.
26:55Let me get on that and I'll fix him and come for you.
26:58Awesome.
26:58Thank you.
26:59The unfortunate part is he might have already hopped on a flight.
27:12The next morning.
27:13All right.
27:13Thank you so much, sir.
27:14Okay, of course.
27:16Bye.
27:16Pretty important news.
27:17We have some contacts down at the FBI and they were able to check the flight itineraries for my suspect.
27:26And it would appear he is on a flight currently from Dallas to JFK and has a connecting flight on
27:35to Paris.
27:36Obviously, we want to snatch him before he leaves the country.
27:39Blake's flight is due to land at JFK Airport in New York in two hours.
27:43I'm going to try to get this warrant knocked out really quick so that when they land, they'll board the
27:48plane and take him into custody.
27:54One hour later.
27:55So, uh, got a warrant issued, $5 million bond since he was trying to flee the country.
28:00Oh, mercy.
28:00What?
28:01That's what I'm talking about.
28:04Hopefully, the Port Authority up in New York will be able to pick him up as soon as he lands.
28:09And, uh, we're going to go talk to the family.
28:11Hopefully, while we're talking to him, we'll get him in custody.
28:27Welcome on in.
28:29Welcome, welcome.
28:30Schilling and Warren update Chris's family.
28:33As soon as we hear something, we'll let y'all know.
28:37How do you think of those?
28:39Oh, thank you.
28:41Take care.
28:42Thank you.
28:42Yes, sir.
28:45As Schilling and Warren leave Chris's family.
28:501,400 miles away at JFK Airport, Blake's plane has just landed.
29:20Sir, Blake.
29:22How are you?
29:36Port Authority police officers take Blake into custody.
29:54Back in Tulsa.
29:58He's in custody.
30:00They're emailing me what they have.
30:01All right, let me just run in there and tell them real quick.
30:08See, I just had to try to leave.
30:09He's in custody.
30:11He got him.
30:11They got him up there.
30:12They got him on the plane.
30:14I don't know the story yet, but we'll hear it.
30:17We got some work to do.
30:18What's up, Scott?
30:26Later that afternoon, there's quite a bit of evidence that he had with him.
30:30His clothing he was wearing, and he had two backpacks of stuff.
30:34Blake will be held in New York until he can be extradited back to Tulsa.
30:39We may try to go up there and take an opportunity to interview him, but eventually he will be brought
30:45back to Tulsa and have to answer for what he's done.
30:49With just over 24 hours left in the first 48, the team must now wait to hear Blake's side of
30:56the story.
31:11Eight days later.
31:13Well, we just landed in New York City, so me and Pablo, this is the first for us.
31:19Schilling and Zuniga arrive in New York City, both for the first time.
31:23Sergeant Schilling's going to talk to the suspect tomorrow.
31:27I'd like to just kind of touch base with him, let him know, you know, that we are investigating it.
31:33You know, there's obviously two sides to every story, and right now, you know, we don't really have either side.
31:39We just have the physical evidence to it.
31:40He got booked into Queen's Central Booking, and then after that, he ended up getting transferred to Rikers Island.
31:45And then you hear about it in movies, probably never thought you were going to be getting to go there.
31:52It's all downhill from here, Pablo.
31:56You've peaked.
31:57You've peaked way too early.
31:59Yeah.
32:00So, this is my first time in New York City, and it's one of those places I think is kind
32:08of like a bucket list place for a lot of people.
32:10Detective White, who's our local tour guide, he gave me enough to do to fill up a week or two,
32:16but we don't have that much time.
32:17So, if we get the opportunity, I'd love to see the World Trade Center.
32:21It's kind of the one thing that's really on my list.
32:27Two hours later, while we wait to talk to Blake.
32:39Older people talk about where they were, like when JFK was assassinated or Elvis Presley died.
32:44But for me, one of the biggest significant events was 9-11.
32:47I was actually in training, driving around Tulsa with a senior police officer, and all this stuff's going on in
32:54New York.
32:55And it's just, you know, now, gosh, 23 years later, I'm getting to come here and kind of see it
33:03for the first time.
33:06I'll do a hot dog.
33:07I want a hot dog, too.
33:08One hot dog?
33:10Thank you, sir.
33:14Man, it's good.
33:16There's five buildings I can see right now that are all bigger than any building we have.
33:22And that's just this side of the street that's wild.
33:26So, we're going to go over to Rikers at 11 and holler at Blake.
33:31It's a place that's, I don't know, a bit intimidating.
33:36It's like, you know, it's not Alcatraz, but if you talk about jails that people have heard of, that's one
33:44of them.
33:45Yeah.
33:49The next morning...
33:51So, we're on our way to Rikers now, and we're going to go meet with Blake and let him know
33:56that we're interested in his side of the story,
33:59and if he decides to talk to us, great.
34:02If not, then, you know, go with what we have.
34:07Nathan Schilling.
34:08Nice to meet you, brother.
34:09Nice to meet you as well.
34:10NYPD will escort Schilling and Zuniga across the ridge to Rikers Island.
34:19Hey, Blake.
34:21I am Sir Convagan Jones.
34:25Also, Oklahoma.
34:26This is my partner, Pablo Zuniga.
34:29We just wanted to let you know that we are interested in what you have to say,
34:34and I'd love to hear your side of the story.
34:37Thank you.
34:53You have any questions for me about anything at this point?
35:01I don't know.
35:02All right.
35:06You know, it's a little anticlimactic.
35:09He immediately said, I want my attorney, but he starts pointing at his face, at the cuts on his face.
35:15So, he's trying to tell me something without telling me something, but ultimately, you know, he chose not to tell
35:22us.
35:22Unfortunately for him, there's a mountain of evidence against him, so whether he talks or not, it's going to be
35:29a hard case to beat.
35:33Two hours later...
35:34Is that everything up in the conference room?
35:37All right.
35:37Schilling and Zuniga meet with Port Authority Detective Michael McDaniels to collect Blake's belongings.
35:43Were you actually on the plane when he got arrested, or...?
35:46Yeah, yeah.
35:46Oh, nice.
35:47Did you think he was surprised or shocked, or...?
35:50I wouldn't say he was really surprised.
35:53Kept his head down, didn't really talk.
35:55He was very cooperative.
35:57At one point, I don't remember the exact wording, but somehow he uttered, uh, he stabbed me.
36:05There was another interaction with him when we were in the cells.
36:08He said, Detective, I said, I have a question.
36:10I said, sure.
36:10He said, uh, did he die?
36:13I hear a guy saying, my warrants for murder, did he die?
36:17I said, all I can tell you is that you have a warrant for murder out of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
36:22He said, okay.
36:28So, this is the bags.
36:31No, I mean, this is the clothing.
36:35We were asked not to go through it, so we didn't even help it.
36:37Okay, excellent.
36:39Blake's luggage will be searched for possible evidence back in Tulsa after the team has secured a warrant.
36:45I think that's everything.
36:46Thanks so much.
36:47No problem.
36:51This morning was not quite what we hoped for, but this was a good trip.
36:57I'm glad we came.
36:58Plenty of work.
36:59It's pretty spectacular.
37:00Great place to visit, but there's no place like home.
37:13One week later.
37:14Blake got brought back on Thursday.
37:17So, he is now at the Tulsa County Jail.
37:20I was able to get a search warrant for the bags that Blake had with him on his flight.
37:26In the check bag, I ended up finding a kind of a military-style, like, K-Bar knife.
37:34I don't see any blood on it.
37:36I don't know.
37:37There's nothing that gives me reason to believe that this was involved in it.
37:40And also found a tomahawk-style axe.
37:45So, you know, again, it doesn't look like it was involved in the actual incident, but the fact that the
37:52witness from the dispensary said that he said he was going to go axe somebody, it could play a role
37:57in the investigation.
38:00I have some DVR footage I've also been able to review.
38:03The cybercrimes unit was able to access Chris's surveillance system and sent Shilling several clips of Blake inside the house
38:11at the time of the murder.
38:14So, he pulls into the driveway.
38:17Twelve minutes after leaving the marijuana dispensary, Blake arrives at Chris's home.
38:22For whatever reason, it doesn't pick up the initial him walking in the house.
38:28This is literally two minutes after he pulled into the driveway.
38:35It would appear that he's already had an altercation with the victim.
38:39And he ended up back outside somehow.
38:44He's coming back in the front door, and he's already bloody.
38:49And he pulls the knife out and goes back to where our victim was found.
38:55You can see him over here a little bit.
39:00It's almost like he's talking to him.
39:13It would appear that Blake took a shower after.
39:17You know, we definitely have self-defense cases.
39:21You know, you have people get into a fight, and someone pulls out a knife and stabs someone once, twice,
39:26three times.
39:27In quick succession to get away, and then that person dies.
39:31You know, that's a little bit understandable.
39:34But to stab someone at least 71 times, numerous stab wounds to the chest, to the back, to the back
39:44of the head.
39:44That's not consistent with a self-defense claim.
39:48I think, you know, this case, there's no question that Blake was going to kill Chris.
39:53He's saying that before it happens.
39:57So he has lost pretty much any self-defense claim.
40:00He's going over there with the intent to stab him.
40:03And I think the evidence would support that.
40:21He's going over there with the intent to stab him.
40:36Eight months after Chris was killed, his family gathers to remember him.
40:43We had some good times with Uncle Chris.
40:46We miss him, don't we?
40:47Yes, we do.
40:49He was funny, wasn't he?
40:51Yes.
40:53Chris was just a real kidder.
40:55He loved to joke.
40:56He loved to laugh.
40:57He worked on his cars.
40:59He kept an immaculate yard.
41:01He was always meticulous about everything, whether it was artwork or decorating.
41:06He always liked to improve things.
41:11He just had a soft spot, too.
41:13A soft heart.
41:16And it's just unfortunate, you know, that he got hooked up with Blake.
41:23He just wanted to use Chris.
41:25Chris was loving.
41:27I think at the beginning, it was a boyfriend-boyfriend relationship.
41:32But later on, I think it became, I'm trying to nurture him.
41:36He came from a bad home, you know, and I can make it better kind of thing.
41:41And I can help him.
41:42And, you know, he, I mean, for a long time, he just took advantage of my brother.
41:48I mean, we all worried Blake would do something.
41:53I kept trying to get Chris to kick him out.
41:56And Chris kept telling me, he says, he'll heal himself.
41:59And I said, that's not your problem.
42:01Your problem is letting him stay there.
42:03You need to get him out of that house.
42:07Yeah, I'm sorry I couldn't protect him.
42:09I'm sorry I couldn't change things for him.
42:13It was just very sad.
42:15And he didn't deserve, I mean, nobody would deserve that.
42:18But my brother didn't deserve it from just trying to help somebody.
42:25I wish we could turn back time.
42:28But you can't.
42:31I just don't want him to be forgotten.
42:34I don't want my brother to be forgotten.
42:35I don't want him to be forgotten.
42:37I don't want him to be forgotten.
