00:02Bedlington Station has reopened on the Northumberland line, welcoming passengers and their namesake
00:08dogs.
00:08The first 25 Bedlington Terriers arriving at the station on Monday between 10 in the
00:13morning and 12 in the afternoon earned their owners a free travel pass valid on any Northern
00:19service for journeys with up to two adults and two children.
00:22The Terriers, originally bred to hunt rats in local coal mines, share the town's name.
00:27Northern says Bedlington played a historic role in railway engineering.
00:31The station was the last of four to reopen, delayed by ageing stonework and a water pipe,
00:37before finally opening on Sunday after extra funding ensured completion.
