A large fire erupted at Brazil's Guarulhos International Airport on Sunday evening after a Delta Air Lines plane's left engine exploded during takeoff, forcing the crew to make an emergency return.

Footage captures the moment of the incident, with a sudden explosion lighting up the night sky. Incandescent debris fell near the runway, igniting a fire in the surrounding grass, which was quickly extinguished by airport firefighters.

Flight DL 0104 - an Airbus A330-300 - was departing for Atlanta, United States, when the incident occurred. No injuries or fatalities had been reported at the time of publication.

Delta Air Lines said in a statement that the aircraft experienced a 'mechanical problem in the left engine.' The airline added that "the safety of our customers and crew is our top priority," and confirmed that all 288 passengers were rebooked onto another aircraft.

Brazil's Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA) will lead the investigation into the incident. Authorities say the inquiry is expected to take months before a final report is completed.
