A firefighting helicopter crashed while battling wildfires on the slopes of Hout Bay, near South Africa's Table Mountain National Park, on Wednesday.

Dramatic footage shows the aircraft, operated by 'Working on Fire', carrying out targeted water drops over active fire zones before losing stability and crashing during a landing attempt.

Initial reports suggest the helicopter’s main rotor struck uneven terrain, triggering the crash and igniting secondary fires in the surrounding area.

In a statement, South African National Parks confirmed that both pilots aboard the UH-1 Huey survived the incident and were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Investigations have been launched by South African police and the Civil Aviation Authority to determine the cause of the crash.

Fire crews remain deployed in the area, working to contain flare-ups and prevent the spread of flames towards nearby forested areas around Constantia Nek.
