00:01Australians have always loved the beach,
00:04so many of us are now making the move to our beautiful coastlines.
00:10Our beachfront dreamers want crashing waves and salty sea air,
00:15so grab your sunscreen and join us on the hunt
00:18for the ultimate beach house.
00:20It's been a hard day hunting.
00:35We are in Anglesea on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria,
00:38and this is where Suzanne and her family
00:40have decided to make their holiday the everyday.
00:44She's got two young boys,
00:45and they are looking for the perfect spot to set down their roots here.
00:49So I'm shopping with Suzanne and her new best friend, Ingrid,
00:53who's been living here for a little while,
00:54so I think she'll have some input into what makes the perfect beach home.
00:58Let's go shopping.
01:04I'm Suze, and this is my good friend Ingrid.
01:07We're working towards being best friends.
01:09We've known each other for a bit over a year.
01:12It's going well.
01:13It's going well.
01:15It's going well.
01:16Anglesea has a special place in my heart and my husband's heart.
01:20He has holidayed down the Great Ocean Road his whole life with his family,
01:25and my grandma has lived here full-time for 40 years.
01:29Patrick and I have been living in Melbourne with our two boys,
01:32and it's time to live beachside.
01:37We need a lot of space for all of our things.
01:42My husband has a boat.
01:43We need a shed for that.
01:44So we need a lot of space for the boys,
01:47and happy for a bit of work.
01:49Budget we're working with mid two to three million.
02:01Anglesea is located just a few hours southwest of Melbourne,
02:04past Geelong, and right on the Great Ocean Road.
02:07This cosy beachside town is the perfect mix of relaxation and community,
02:12offering plenty of amenities without the hassles of a bigger city.
02:18It makes perfect sense to me why Suze and Patrick
02:21want to make their favourite holiday spot a permanent home.
02:35Well, this is an arrival.
02:38Well, hello ladies.
02:39Hello.
02:40Hello.
02:41How good's beachside living?
02:44Ingrid, you're along for the ride.
02:46We'll chat later.
02:46Suzanne, this is all about you and your family today.
02:49What is it that you're actually after?
02:51We want to move out of the city.
02:52Bigger block.
02:53Moving out of the city for our two boys to grow up beachside.
02:57Lots of space to run around.
02:59Probably need a shed.
03:00We've got a boat.
03:01And a fence.
03:02We've got a dog.
03:03Alright.
03:03That sounds like a pretty stocko list.
03:05So we should be right there.
03:06And Ingrid, you've made your way here all the way from Estonia.
03:08That's right.
03:09Ten years ago, and I never looked back.
03:11It's amazing.
03:12How lovely.
03:13So you can't wait to have your mate in town.
03:15Absolutely.
03:16Sounds good to me.
03:17Alright.
03:18Well, here it is.
03:19She is a beauty.
03:21Undergone a full renovation.
03:23So it's as new inside.
03:25As you can see, we're perched up here on the top of one of the best views, I would say,
03:28in the world of the Great Ocean Road, which is one of the greatest drives of all time.
03:34It's very royal.
03:35It's royal.
03:36I don't feel like it's royal.
03:37It's really, like, outstanding.
03:40It's huge.
03:41It's a bit one colour.
03:42Beautiful, but I think it's not quite you.
03:45A bit more timber.
03:46Yeah.
03:47A bit more rustic.
03:48Yeah.
03:50Here we go.
04:03That's terrible view.
04:06Could not live here.
04:07Yeah.
04:08It's crazy.
04:08Oh, that's wild.
04:11So up here, obviously, kitchen, dining, casual living.
04:14And what I would call the primary suite off here with an ensuite.
04:17Mm-hmm.
04:18But it's all about, obviously, living out there on that deck with amazing views over the whole
04:22town.
04:23Neat as a pin.
04:25Beautiful.
04:26Kitchen's beautiful.
04:27Feels very much like a holiday house.
04:29Yeah.
04:30Yeah.
04:30It looked really perfect.
04:32Yeah, yeah.
04:33Like, don't touch anything.
04:34Beachy, though, right?
04:35Yeah, it's beachy.
04:35Beachy vibe.
04:36Possibly too clean for my boys.
04:39Sand everywhere.
04:41Have a look around.
04:42Make yourself at home.
04:43Perfect.
04:48Oh, that's beautiful.
04:50And sweet.
04:51Yeah.
04:51And a shower.
05:01Whoa.
05:02That is crazy.
05:05How do you say wow in Estonian?
05:07Wow.
05:09That is stunning.
05:11Wow.
05:12It was wow.
05:14I could see myself sitting in there with you every day.
05:17With a wine.
05:18Yes.
05:19But two wines.
05:21Oh, geez.
05:22Hello.
05:23This is the nature.
05:25Hi.
05:25Hi, mate.
05:27He's looking at the view, too.
05:29What do you think of this house?
05:31Do you speak Estonian?
05:33Wow.
05:34Wow.
05:35Yeah.
05:36Yeah, we agree.
05:37We should head downstairs.
05:39We should head downstairs and see where we're going to fit your kids.
05:41Yeah.
05:42Bye, mate.
05:54Our bedroom.
05:55Up bathroom.
05:55Mm-hmm.
05:57Bedroom after bedroom after bedroom.
05:59How many?
06:001, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
06:02You need to have more kids, Suze.
06:04No, definitely not.
06:06It's a lot of beds.
06:09Where's the storage?
06:10A few drawers under the bed.
06:12That's so true.
06:12But that's kind of, yeah.
06:13It could work.
06:14It could work.
06:15We should head outside.
06:17Oh, yeah, Shelley's at the bar.
06:18Yeah, let's go.
06:27Come on in.
06:27It's five o'clock somewhere.
06:29Bar is open.
06:30What are we drinking?
06:31This is the world's greatest cubby house.
06:33A pool here would be quite nice.
06:35Well, the fact is you've got 740 square metres.
06:38So it's a big block.
06:40There's a lot of space to do modifications.
06:43The shed with the bar.
06:45This is awesome.
06:46That's awesome.
06:47But I think, can you see a pool?
06:49We need a pool.
06:50But it will be really pricey to build.
06:52Yes, really pricey.
06:56Let's talk price.
06:57What would you be willing to pay?
06:59I guess it'd be between two and three.
07:02The vendors are asking...
07:15I guess it's between two and three.
07:18The vendors are asking $275.
07:22Oh, of course.
07:22Yeah, so you're spot on in the price bracket, but yes, doesn't leave you a lot of play money.
07:27If it's a project home where we need to do work on top of what we're buying, maybe that's out
07:33of our range.
07:34But, yeah, it depends.
07:36Depends, yeah.
07:38Luckily for you, Susanne, I have two other houses to tell you today.
07:40Shall I meet you there, or do you have an extra helmet?
07:42I've got a helmet.
07:43You can dink me.
07:44Let's go.
07:56I beat you down the hill.
07:59Hello.
08:00So disappointed you didn't have that extra helmet, Ingrid.
08:02I know, right?
08:03I would have loved to double on the back of your weapon here.
08:06You wanted to live on the Great Ocean Road.
08:08We are on the Great Ocean Road.
08:11One of the original houses of the area, built in, like, the 1920s.
08:16Same owner for the last 70 years.
08:20It's very original inside, just over 1,000 square metres, so very subdividable.
08:25You could build your dream home here.
08:27You could renovate.
08:29You so eloquently dropped.
08:31You and your husband loved doing work.
08:33This is the one for the work.
08:35I knew this might tickle your fancy.
08:38It looks beautiful.
08:39I think it's super cute.
08:40I really love the fence.
08:41The stone fence.
08:42The stone fence.
08:43Yeah.
08:43This has been here a long time.
08:45Yeah.
08:45But also, it's opposite the river, close to the beach.
08:47True.
08:48It's a bit of a mixed bag.
08:49Old school vibe.
08:50A bit of beachy vibes.
08:51Beachy vibes.
08:53Let's go inside.
09:01Mmm.
09:03Character.
09:03Lots of.
09:05This is wild.
09:07In a good way.
09:08Yeah, I think it's super cute.
09:10It's one of these ones that's going to take some imagination.
09:12Let me show you the living room and kitchen, and then I'll let you explore.
09:16Okay.
09:19So, the carpet, I have to say, is almost brand new, but I'm sure it's original.
09:24Yes.
09:25This is cool.
09:27It needs a new ceiling, but, yeah.
09:29How cool is the timber panelling?
09:30Yeah.
09:31Warp from the textures is great.
09:33There's bits you'd keep, but, oh, look at that door.
09:36That's an interesting angle.
09:39It did take me back home a bit, to be honest, where I spent all my summers.
09:43It had the same warm feeling.
09:45So, I think this house has had a lot of good memories.
09:49Original kitchen.
09:51Whoa.
09:53Yeah.
09:54This was the original.
09:56The owner had five children, and she fed them all out of this space here.
10:01Would you call it a kitchen?
10:02It's just a relic.
10:03It was just a beautiful relic that maybe you'd keep.
10:06So, there is a little piece of history, and then, of course, we have kitchen and dining
10:10around here.
10:11Oh, yes.
10:12Wow.
10:13This is...
10:14Yeah.
10:14It's Val.
10:16Val.
10:16It's Val.
10:17Would you like to check out the bedrooms?
10:19Why don't you do that, and I'll open up the back couch.
10:21Yes.
10:22Okay.
10:22The bedrooms upstairs.
10:23Go upstairs.
10:26It's going to be interesting.
10:28It's very original.
10:31Come on.
10:33It's such a neat...
10:36It's a bit spooky.
10:38It is a bit spooky.
10:40It's kind of like a bit of a museum vibe.
10:44Small.
10:45Cute.
10:46Yeah.
10:47You opened it up.
10:48Okay, maybe.
10:49You opened it up, maybe, into one.
10:50It's creepy.
10:52It is creepy.
10:53But it's cute.
10:54I mean, look at the floors.
10:55How nice.
10:55They squeak at night when you walk.
10:58This is cute, though.
11:01Ooh.
11:04That was an interesting place.
11:06Cute.
11:06Three bedrooms.
11:07I think we'd open it up.
11:08Yeah, they were really small.
11:10Let's find Shelley.
11:11Let's go.
11:12Okay.
11:12Let's go.
11:22Hello.
11:23It's a lot.
11:24It's a lot.
11:25Yeah.
11:25It's a little bit spooky.
11:26Mm-hmm.
11:27Yeah.
11:27But potential.
11:28I saw potential.
11:29There is no doubt there's a bit of work to be done.
11:32When you come here to the backyard, we've got a self-contained cottage over here.
11:35We've got another self-contained accommodation here.
11:38As far as development opportunities go, this is pretty extraordinary.
11:42Yeah, right.
11:43I can see your kids kicking footy here, if you don't subdivide it.
11:47But, yeah.
11:47But, no, I think it's beautiful.
11:50Let's talk price.
11:51The one at the top of the hill was $2.75.
11:54I imagine it's a bit similar.
11:56It's on the market for $2,850,000.
12:02So, yeah, pretty similar.
12:06Similar to the one up the hill.
12:08The one up the hill has the view, though.
12:11Yes.
12:11This has the road, but close to the beach.
12:14Something to think about.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Hopefully, house number three brings it home.
12:19Helmets.
12:19You've got the address.
12:20I'll see you there.
12:21See you there.
12:22Ride carefully.
12:28Coming up.
12:31House number three.
12:32The quintessential Aussie Beach Shack.
12:34We're still on the Great Ocean Road.
12:37Beach Shack.
12:38Yeah.
12:39Cute.
12:39Potential.
12:52Patrick and I have been living in Melbourne with our two boys, and it's time to live beachside.
13:00Here it is.
13:01She is a beauty.
13:03Undergone a full renovation, so it's as new.
13:06Could not live here.
13:08Oh, that's wild.
13:12You wanted to live on the Great Ocean Road.
13:15We are on the Great Ocean Road.
13:17We are.
13:18One of the original houses of the area.
13:21Old school vibes.
13:22Bit of beachy vibes.
13:24Beachy vibes.
13:24Yeah.
13:25It's a bit of a mixed bag.
13:34Ooh.
13:35Right?
13:36House number three.
13:37The quintessential Aussie Beach Shack.
13:39There is a fence.
13:40There is room for a shed.
13:42There's room for a boat.
13:43Room for a caravan.
13:44The house itself is two beds, one bath, but there's room for improvement.
13:48We're still on the Great Ocean Road.
13:51Little bit of work.
13:52There's a balance, isn't there?
13:53Yeah, maybe not as...
13:54Hopefully not as much as the last one, but we'll see.
13:56We'll see.
13:57We'll see.
13:58Beach Shack.
13:59Beach Shack.
13:59Yeah.
14:00Yeah, but a cool Peach Shack.
14:01Yeah.
14:02Cute.
14:02Potential.
14:03And I love the trees.
14:04The trees are awesome.
14:05It's pretty beautiful.
14:07Well, let's check out the fit.
14:08Come on in.
14:18Come on through.
14:20This is a pretty good spot to take it all in.
14:23Wow.
14:24There's a lot to take in.
14:25There is a lot to take in.
14:27You've got so much light coming in.
14:29Yes.
14:29Obviously a holiday home, so they love being in each other's space.
14:33If you were to live here day to day, you might want to create a few more zones.
14:37Kitchen, which again needs some updating.
14:39Tidy enough to work with for now.
14:41I can see us in that lounge room.
14:43Yes.
14:43And the fireplace.
14:44When I say us, I mean me and my boys.
14:46Oh, sorry.
14:46Maybe not you.
14:47I feel like we could judge it out.
14:49Yeah.
14:50Probably have to do a bit of work here.
14:51Cute splashback.
14:52Yellow tiles.
14:53Oh, if you like that, please have a look in the bathroom.
14:56Okay.
14:56You got me intrigued.
14:58Okay, let's go.
14:58Go girls, be brave.
14:59We'll see you soon.
15:00Yes.
15:14Wow.
15:15Wow.
15:17It's awesome.
15:17It's a lot.
15:18But it's retro.
15:19Retro.
15:20Groovy.
15:20Groovy.
15:21Yeah.
15:23This is nice.
15:25Yes.
15:26I mean, the view.
15:26And how much light.
15:28Yeah.
15:28Yeah.
15:29This is beautiful.
15:30And?
15:31Storage.
15:32Storage.
15:33All right.
15:35That main bedroom, the view out onto the garden.
15:40Can you just imagine, even in winter, it'd be lovely.
15:42Like, wake up, put those blinds up, look out at those trees.
15:46Should we go and see Shelley?
15:47I think we should see Shelley.
15:58I think we should see Shelley.
15:59How's that bathroom?
16:01It's a lot.
16:02That wallpaper.
16:03Yeah.
16:04It's a pretty amazing block.
16:06And a lot of sheds.
16:07A lot of sheds for all your bits and bobs and your tinkering and your stuff.
16:11Not much green on the ground.
16:13No.
16:14Low maintenance.
16:15Low maintenance.
16:15Yes.
16:17Let's talk price.
16:18Let's cut to the chase.
16:19Ooh.
16:19Yes.
16:20I imagine it's less than the others.
16:221.5 to 2.
16:24Yeah, just over 2 maybe.
16:25Mm.
16:25Yeah.
16:26Offer's over 1.8.
16:28Ooh.
16:29Mm.
16:29That's intriguing, isn't it?
16:31That is.
16:33That's so much cheaper than the others.
16:34So much cheaper, yeah.
16:36And then it means we can add things.
16:38Yeah.
16:38And you can travel.
16:39And we can travel.
16:40Mm-hmm.
16:41We can travel.
16:41We can travel.
16:42To Estonia.
16:43No, don't do that.
16:46Huge decision.
16:48It is.
16:48We're moving from Melbourne.
16:50Yeah.
16:50Something to think about, Suze.
16:52Going to need some time.
16:55Coming up.
16:57Did any of these homes speak to you?
17:00Well, yeah.
17:13After some time reporting back to Patrick, Suze has let me know that they have made a decision.
17:18We're catching up again at the Anglesea Hotel to hear which house they've gone with.
17:22I managed to get into town a little earlier to see the sights and meet some of the locals.
17:29Talia, a third generation local to Anglesea.
17:33They must be hard to come by.
17:35There's not many of you floating around town.
17:37There's a few of us, but not too many.
17:38There's certainly some more people that have come in over the years, but it's lovely to still see familiar faces.
17:45You went to high school back in Geelong, which isn't too far from here.
17:48Yes.
17:49But now you're working at the Anglesea Hotel.
17:51I'm back at the Anglesea Hotel.
17:53My grandparents bought the hotel back in the 1970s, and so to be third generation here, to work alongside my
18:00grandparents and parents,
18:01I don't think many people could say that they've had the opportunity to do that, so I'm super grateful.
18:05That's pretty awesome.
18:06It didn't look like this last time I was here, so it's undergone a pretty amazing renovation.
18:11It has.
18:12Yeah, no, we're really happy with how it's turned out.
18:14We're going to finish the deck.
18:16Exciting times to come.
18:18Absolutely.
18:20Why is this part of the Great Ocean Road so special to you?
18:23I just think it's an untouched piece of paradise here.
18:27Lawn's amazing and Torquay's amazing, but they're just so big, whereas here it allows you to just relax.
18:32It's tranquil.
18:33We still have everything that people need here.
18:36Supermarkets, bakeries, local shops, cafes, the pub.
18:40My favourite part of living in this town, it's that community feel, and what should take five minutes going to
18:45the post office is a half an hour job,
18:47because you're saying hello to everyone, you're catching up, and that's truly the best part is that community spirit in
18:51this town.
18:52And the fact that you are keeping the legacy alive.
19:09Is this for me?
19:11Yes.
19:11Please.
19:13Hey, I've got a new show idea.
19:15Find my local.
19:16And girls, this is your local.
19:19It's a good pub.
19:21Let's talk through the houses that we saw.
19:23So house number one obviously was beautiful, fully renovated, gorgeous beach home.
19:29Very finished.
19:30It probably didn't have all the things we needed, but that view was pretty epic.
19:35And it had enough room to do the things you needed.
19:37Had enough room, yeah.
19:39Yeah, but quite a distance from the beach.
19:42Right.
19:42Yeah, but beautiful.
19:44Yeah, it was, wasn't it?
19:47House number two.
19:48I'm not going to call it beautiful.
19:49No, that's a stretch.
19:51But she could be.
19:52Vintage.
19:53She was potential.
19:54I did see a lot in her.
19:57Ingrid, you were transported back to Estonia at that point.
19:59I was, yes.
20:00In a good way.
20:01Like, lots of memories of grandma and everything, so, yeah.
20:04Maybe this is the one for you.
20:05Maybe.
20:06You never know.
20:07But it was a bit pricey, I think.
20:09And that massive backyard.
20:10Did you speak to Patrick about that?
20:12Did.
20:12Talked about subdividing.
20:14Yeah, a lot of potential.
20:17And then house number three was a little bit further out of town, but an amazing location.
20:22Huge, big block, but also needed some work, which, as we worked out during the day, you're
20:26not averse to.
20:28No.
20:28Do love a change.
20:31Beautiful beach back, yeah.
20:32Yeah, the mint green, faded mint green.
20:34Lots of space, lots of sheds, lots of existing sheds, so less work in the yard, maybe a lot
20:40of work inside.
20:43Did any of these homes speak to you?
20:46Well, yeah.
20:47Um, number three.
20:49Okay.
20:50Yes, definitely our fave.
20:51Yeah.
20:52So, my husband, uh, the kids, the boys are excited to live here.
20:56That sounds great to me.
20:58And then this.
20:59Yeah.
20:59Why wouldn't you be excited to live here?
21:01It's a cool town.
21:03Thank you so much for allowing me in on your little adventure for a home.
21:08Why wouldn't you want your holiday to be your everyday?
21:11That's right.
21:12We're very lucky.
21:12Very lucky.
21:15Well, since our little Anglesea adventure, I've heard back from Suze and Patrick to learn
21:20that their offer was successful on the property and that they've already made the big sea change.
21:26I wish you all the best for the new coastal lifestyle.
