00:08Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're counting down our picks for the 10 hardest Nintendo Wii
00:13games that will test your nerves and wits in equal measure. Before we begin, we publish new
00:26content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:34Cursed Mountain
00:45Easily one of the more unique survival horror games on the market, Cursed Mountain centers around Eric
00:50Simmons as he treks through a supernaturally infested Himalayan-inspired area trying to find
00:55his lost brother, Frank. This is no simple hike to the summit, however. Eric must battle the harsh,
01:01snowy mountain elements in tandem with fending off the various cursed ghosts he encounters.
01:06Much of the challenge in this game comes from the lack of direction and guidance. It's honestly quite
01:11easy to get lost, not knowing where to venture next. Fortunately, the puzzles, story, and combat
01:16are all solid enough to keep you immersed despite the game's steep difficulty at times.
01:28Punch Out
01:382009's Punch Out isn't for the faint of heart, you've been warned. This game will pummel you over and over
01:43if you don't have your wits about you. Little Mac takes to the ring to duke it out across various
01:48boxing circuits, hoping to achieve KO after KO without you getting KO'd, hopefully. But what's
01:54easy on paper isn't necessarily easy in practice. This Nintendo Wii version feels almost as challenging
02:00as the old school NES game. Learning exactly when to punch, block, and dodge are critical to overcoming
02:06the brutal matches. The colorful, cartoony art style here belies the deep challenge level. If you have
02:12patience to discover each opponent's various tells and weaknesses, then you may just come out on top.
02:26Prince of Persia Rival Swords
02:40Rival Swords is probably the least discussed Prince of Persia game out there, something that's
02:45honestly a real shame given that it's a solid entry in the venerable series. Punishing? Heck yes,
02:51but fun nonetheless. Interestingly, Rival Swords is considered a port of the two thrones, a version of
02:57Prince of Persia that was released on other consoles. You still get the action adventure goodness of the
03:02two thrones, but with motion controls for better or worse. As you might imagine, much of the challenge
03:08in Rival Swords actually comes from the game's combat, platforming, and puzzles, something the Wii's
03:13motion controls don't always help with despite its uniqueness. The titular prince is still at the helm of
03:19this game, now with extra waggly motion control shenanigans. The precision you get with a traditional
03:24controller may not be present in this Wii port, however it's still a solid entry in the Prince of Persia
03:29series. Donkey Kong Country Returns
03:52Now, okay, if we're being honest, the Donkey Kong Country games have never really been all that easy.
03:58The platforming they offer is often synonymous with steep difficulty. 2010's Donkey Kong Country Returns
04:04takes the challenge level from the SNES games and tosses in the Wii's controls that do help the game shine
04:10and stand out, but also makes for a challenging platformer. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong explore
04:16myriad meticulously designed stages in hopes of thwarting the Tiki's mischievous plans, one that led
04:22to the Kong's bananas being stolen from them, heaven forbid. The Wii's controls do work well here though,
04:28and the challenge level actually comes from the precision platforming and various creative boss battles.
04:46Muramasa the Demon Blade
04:58Now, if you want a Wii game that will make you tear your hair out in frustration, then look no
05:03further than
05:03Muramasa the Demon Blade. This 2D side-scrolling action RPG is downright brutal at times, which should
05:09probably come as no surprise given it's created by developer Vanillaware, a studio known for challenging
05:15games. While the gorgeous painted Japanese-inspired visuals and vistas will most certainly lull you in,
05:21the moment-to-moment combat and exploration will definitely test your action RPG skills around every
05:27colorful corner. In regards to combat specifically, Muramasa features many random encounters, something
05:33that immediately ratchets up that difficulty level. Don't worry though, you can still find plenty of
05:37weapons and items to buff your character, in addition to cooking various meals for enhancements.
05:52Pandora's Tower
06:03Pandora's Tower is one of those Nintendo Wii games most people don't really discuss,
06:08which is a real shame given how utterly unique it is to experience, both from a storytelling and
06:13gameplay perspective. Very much an action RPG, Pandora's Tower sees protagonist Aaron work his way
06:19through the eponymous tower, also known as Thirteen Towers, in order to save the love of his life,
06:24Elena. You see, Elena is cursed to turn into a monster as time goes on, with her curse only temporarily
06:30being quelled by eating monster parts. Now, as gross as that may sound, Aeron is determined to slay as
06:36many monsters as possible to keep Elena from turning into an abomination herself. Using Aeron's special chain
06:42item allows him to battle foes and explore the tower, but this is one of those games that demands a
06:48lot of
06:48patience and skill in order to truly succeed and ultimately save Elena.
06:52If you don't eat it, your fate will be sealed. You'll grow more and more monstrous. And there'll be no
07:03happy ending for you and young Aeron. Monster Hunter Tri
07:17Monster Hunter games can often be quite impenetrable, with Monster Hunter Tri for the Nintendo Wii really
07:23proving this point. What started production as a PlayStation 3 title actually ended up swapping
07:28to the Nintendo Wii, and thank goodness that it did because Wii fans received a really special game
07:33in this long-running series. Yes, it will definitely kick your butt over and over again as you try to
07:39slay the game's many behemoths, but you'll have an absolute blast while doing so. Moga Village is
07:45being attacked by monsters and needs to be saved, and only you and your monster hunting pals can help.
07:50Thus, the adventure begins. However, slaying these monsters will take a serious amount of skill and grit,
07:56since each beast needs to be taken down using specific methods. This can lead to a lot of trial and
08:01error
08:01gameplay with lots of experimentation, something that does increase the game's overall challenge level.
08:06Mind your stamina and health, and you should be able to come out on top, hopefully.
08:20Sin and Punishment Star Successor
08:31This rail shooter slash shoot-em-up probably needs very little introduction for any gamer that knows
08:37anything at all about punishing video games, especially for the Wii. This game stars Issa and
08:41Kachi, two characters who must explore both inner and outer space, taking on myriad intergalactic baddies.
08:47While players are given more than enough firepower to hold their own, Star Successor does
08:52not go easy on you at all. The free movement system and the addition of melee attacks do help somewhat,
08:58but this is a game that demands precision from the player. Knowing what weapon to use,
09:02where to actually move on screen, and how to battle each foe are all keys to overcoming the odds in
09:07Star
09:07Star Successor. Baroque.
09:25I'm having a really hard time stopping the urge to say, if it ain't Baroque, then don't fix it.
09:31Well, yeah, I guess I said it now, so you're welcome, I guess? A fairly overlooked and underappreciated,
09:37RPG on the Wii, Baroque is actually a remake of the OG Sega Saturn, and later PlayStation 1 version of
09:44the
09:44game. This is a deeply challenging, yet endlessly rewarding RPG, with a hefty storyline and emotionally
09:50weighty themes. Baroque takes players to a post-apocalyptic realm, where people are transformed
09:55into manifestations of their guilt. As Archangel, you must battle your way through various areas,
10:00through a roguelike fashion. You get randomly generated dungeons, punishing enemies, nice
10:05rewards, and lots of replayability. The combination of RPG elements and roguelike tendencies make the
10:11trip through Neuro Tower quite challenging indeed, with little room for error.
10:24Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
10:34Yes, it's Fire Emblem. Of course it's going to be challenging, what do you think? And Radiant Dawn really
10:39takes the cake here. Easily the hardest game on the Nintendo Wii, Radiant Dawn is a tactical RPG,
10:44with oodles upon oodles of depth, nuance, and challenge. The popular grid-based, turn-based
10:49gameplay returns in Radiant Dawn, taking cues from Fire Emblem Path of Radiant specifically. Positioning,
10:56strategic thinking, weapon choice, character choice, and more are things that need to be at the forefront
11:00of your mind, as you dive into the game's many tough-as-nail battles. Plus, the fact that many
11:05characters can permanently die makes the tension go through the roof at times. Add in an emotionally
11:11charged narrative, well-written characters, and a beefy gameplay loop, and Radiant Dawn will keep
11:16you immersed all throughout its challenging adventure. So, do you agree with our picks for
11:29this list? Which Nintendo Wii games do you find are the toughest and most challenging?
