00:15Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking back at all the pain caused by the hardest
00:21levels, missions, biomes, and dungeons in games found on the PlayStation 5.
00:26We aren't limiting ourselves to exclusives, if you can play it on PS5, it was considered.
00:40But before we dive in, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and
00:46ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:50The Iron Throne, Baldur's Gate 3.
01:00The nature of a game like Baldur's Gate 3 means certain tasks may be easier or harder, depending
01:06on how you tackle them and what classes make up your party.
01:08Even still, the Iron Throne from Act 3 is one of the most stressful quests in the game.
01:14Set foot within the Iron Throne and you will die, as will all of the hostages inside.
01:21It sees you infiltrate an underwater prison.
01:24As soon as you enter, a self-destruct timer starts with the number of turns depending on
01:28your difficulty level.
01:29This is a combination of three quests.
01:32Save Will's father, Duke Ravengard, save the good mind player O'Melium, and save a group
01:38of 13 Gandians, all of these people found in different spots.
01:42Of course, you've got to fight off enemies while you do so.
01:46Thankfully, you don't have to save all of the Gandians, but trying to get everyone out
01:51is a monumental task.
02:01Reach the Coral Convergence, Armored Core 6, Fires of Rubicon.
02:07You saw the ruins, Institute City, the mausoleum of the sinners who caused the fires of Ibis.
02:17Many games have a difficulty spike, but From Software always seems to include multiple.
02:23The one from Armored Core 6 that seemed to frustrate most players was the final mission
02:27of Chapter 4, Reach the Coral Convergence.
02:30It sees you head into a city on the brink of collapse due to all the warring mechs inside,
02:35so you have plenty of high offense enemies to deal with as you progress.
02:39But the real reason this mission makes the list is its boss fight against IB-01, Cell 240.
02:46You've nearly got it, 6-2-1.
02:49You're the only one who can finish the job.
02:57Sure, there are more powerful bosses later, but at this point in the game, its immense speed
03:03and multitude of projectiles and lasers are extremely hard to handle.
03:08Cell 240 gained a reputation among players, and it's pretty easy to see why.
03:23There are 16 chapters in the RE4 remake, and the penultimate one is definitely the most challenging.
03:37As you make your way into a stronghold of enemies, you'll have a lot of firepower to deal with.
03:42Enemies will immediately swarm you, and things don't get any easier when you make it inside either,
03:48as there's a particularly stressful section packed with regenerators, some of the more intimidating enemies you'll find in the game.
04:09You'll spend the majority of this chapter's time just beating back the overwhelming horses while on the brink of death.
04:16And as ammo and resources start to dwindle, you'll feel the panic start to set in.
04:21Laser Hell Split Fiction
04:31Technically, a level within a level, Laser Hell is the fan given name to a secret obstacle course
04:37found in the maximum security section of the isolation chapter in Split Fiction.
04:42And we've gotta say, Laser Hell is pretty accurate.
04:46It tasks you with navigating five increasingly difficult laser fields, each of which require absolute perfect timing and will annihilate
04:54you instantly.
04:55Any one of them causes you to get very used to seeing your character disintegrate.
05:00This would be hard enough if only you had to make it through, but you better hope whoever you're playing
05:05with also has the skills to match.
05:07The dev team knew how hard this challenge was, with director Joseph Farris even recording a video of himself, offering
05:14the first duo to conquer it the chance to visit their studio.
05:21Wow. Amazing.
05:23Rulers of the Outer Worlds. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
05:34You have a group of optional VR missions in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth called Brutal Challenges.
05:40None of them are more deserving of that title than Rulers of the Outer Worlds.
05:45It tasks you with making it through five ridiculously tough boss battles.
05:49While you do get to choose your party, this mission is only available on hard mode and doesn't allow you
05:55to use any items.
05:56The first three fights are against two bosses at once.
06:00That is obviously a huge pain, but you'll actually start to miss them once you make it to the fourth
06:05and fifth fights.
06:06Gilgamesh and Virtual Sephiroth respectively.
06:10Of course, once you die, which you frequently will, you'll have to start the whole thing over.
06:15Good boy! Check out this shit right here!
06:21The Pagoda Realm. Black Myth Wukong.
06:34This area would be on par with many other levels in Black Myth Wukong, which is to say regularly hard,
06:40if not for one incredibly irritating factor.
06:43As you try to climb your way out after being captured, you'll eventually hear what are referred to as Beguiling
06:50Chants.
06:51They happen every three minutes, and bring an effect that lasts about a minute and a half.
06:56Your max health is cut in half, both you and the enemies gain a damage boost, and new enemies appear
07:01with a grab attack that can one-hit kill you.
07:04There's also an optional boss you can face while contending with this effect, and the story boss that can end
07:10it, Captain Y's voice, doesn't exactly go down easy.
07:20The Impossible Climb. Prince of Persia, The Lost Crown.
07:25Show just how capable you are, young one.
07:29Ready?
07:34There are plenty of tough platforming sections in The Lost Crown, but the Impossible Climb is something else.
07:41An area designated for a side quest that will see you jumping, diving, dashing, and falling into a multitude of
07:47spikes.
07:48You have to climb your way up a large, vertical area using different sized weights and counterweights,
07:54all of which move and have spikes sticking out of the tops and bottoms.
07:58And you have to collect three bells without taking any damage.
08:02This grows extremely frustrating since, while clinging to and sliding down the sides,
08:09you have to keep moving, often without knowing where you're going.
08:12One slip up, and you start all over.
08:19Told you I was skilled.
08:21Eidos 9, Stellar Blade.
08:33Eidos 9 is an optional level in Stellar Blade, which must be why the devs chose to make it such
08:38a challenge.
08:39You reach this area by filling Lily's progress bar to 100%.
08:43And as you're about to head from the Great Desert to Spire 4, she'll ask to pay it a visit.
08:48It's at least a well-balanced challenge.
08:50Traversal can be really fun, grinding on rollercoaster rails, parkouring, and wall-jumping up buildings.
08:56But there's also poisonous water to look out for, which can kill you quickly,
09:00and damage sponge enemies protecting cocoons you have to destroy.
09:04There's also a pretty tricky duo boss fight against Corrupter and Dozer.
09:08All in all, a pretty fun sidetrack, but definitely one to keep your guard up for.
09:21Swamp of Sorrow, Demon's Souls.
09:32While this area is a little bit easier than its appearance in the original Demon's Souls,
09:37mostly thanks to the existence of the Sodden Ring, making it easier to move in deep water,
09:41it's still a pretty huge pain.
09:43If you don't find that ring, the combination of slow movement, annoying enemies,
09:48the persistent poison effect, the confusing layout, and poor visibility
09:52will make it hard to keep your motivation.
09:54More than many other levels in From Software games,
09:57you will feel the overwhelming sense of being crushed by an environment and its inhabitants.
10:02And if you happen to die to the boss, the dirty colossus,
10:06there's a significant amount of infuriating ground you have to retread.
10:17Great Master Challenge – Astro Bot
10:26After you collect all 120 puzzle pieces and rescue all 300 bots in the base game of Astro Bot,
10:33you unlock the Great Master Challenge.
10:35And while most of your adventure isn't that difficult, this final level certainly is.
10:41From the get-go, you will be swarmed with methods of death.
10:44Most platforms are completely unsafe to stay on since they'll either fall or crumble,
10:49sending you into the abyss below, or be covered by enemy attacks you need to carefully dodge.
10:55It's designed to get you moving and never stop until the very end.
10:59And, of course, there are no checkpoints.
11:01So, one mistake, then it's back to the very beginning.
11:05Needless to say, you make a lot of mistakes.
11:15Derelict Citadel – Returnal
11:25Returnal surprised a lot of people with its high difficulty, which we believe reaches its peak in the third region,
11:31the Derelict Citadel.
11:32Getting inside isn't so bad with just a few enemies to contend with, but after that, you'll find the area
11:39heavily defended by an army of robots.
11:41As you get deeper into the level, they start to appear in larger groups.
11:46Many of them have attacks that can deplete your health fairly quickly, but by far the most problematic enemies are
11:52the drones.
11:53Flying above the action, they can fire a barrage of missiles that home in on you and, after taking enough
11:59damage, issue a kamikaze attack by barreling right into you.
12:03Regardless, there are many fights to be found here that can bring a quick end to your run.
12:15Bile Water – Hollow Knight Silksong
12:29One of the more frequent complaints about Hollow Knight Silksong dealt with the punishing level of runback.
12:36And within the biome, Bile Water, it's at its most painful.
12:40The area is already tough enough, with poisoned water that drains your silk and enemies that frequently pop out to
12:46hit you with an annoying projectile.
12:48You'll die fairly frequently, whether it be from the boss Grohl the Great, who's one of the game's tougher foes,
12:54or from the barrage of enemies and hazards that lead to him.
12:57And every time you do, you have to navigate this huge, infuriating biome all over again.
13:04While there is a hidden bench you can find to make things a little easier, it isn't quite enough to
13:10make us not hate this place.
13:19Dragon Temple – Metaphor Re-Fantasio
13:23No way!
13:27I must!
13:30This particular dungeon is one of the coolest, most lore-heavy that Metaphor Re-Fantasio has to offer.
13:36It's also, by far, the most challenging and time-consuming.
13:40That's mainly because there's not one, but two giant labyrinths you have to navigate inside the temple.
13:47The first one features a puzzle and how to traverse it, since it's covered in fog that can turn you
13:52around.
13:53The second features no fog, but is about twice the size and filled with some really tough encounters that can
13:59force you to spend a lot of resources just so you can keep exploring.
14:03At a certain point, it becomes beneficial to try and avoid the monsters, no matter how prepared you are when
14:10you enter.
14:22Lies of Pea
14:24Arch Abbey – Flies of Pea
14:36Lies of Pea crescendos in its difficulty, bringing a final level that is absolutely brutal.
14:42Arch Abbey is, without a doubt, the longest area in the game, and you'll certainly begin to feel your patience
14:48tested as you try to make your way through it.
14:50This is partially because it's gigantic, but also because there are multiple spots throughout where enemies will jump out to
14:58surprise attack you, which just makes you build rage as you continue to explore.
15:01That's not to mention you have to face the two hardest bosses in the base game, Laxasia the Complete, and
15:08the final boss, the Nameless Puppet.
15:11Understandably, there are many deaths to be had here.
15:22Toxic Tunnels – Crash Bandicoot 4 – It's About Time
15:31Crash Bandicoot 4 is, all around, one of the tougher 3D platformers in recent memory.
15:38Of its many levels, Toxic Tunnels is the most nightmarishly hard, and can easily drive you to a profanity-filled
15:46rage.
15:47Nearly every section will require some perfect timing for platforming, since there are a lot of moving parts and hazards
15:53to watch out for.
15:54You're going to fall, get blown up, or electrocuted a lot.
15:59This is far worse for completionists, because in order to get this level's perfect relic, required to fully complete the
16:06game,
16:07you must break every crate and not die a single time outside of bonus rooms.
16:13Doing this is truly the highest level of challenge that the game offers.
16:24Imperial Palace – The First Berserker, Kazan
16:36Admittedly, this area was toned down through a patch a few months after launch, with certain encounters featuring fewer enemies,
16:43and others being less frustrating in where they were placed.
16:46Even still, it definitely deserves to be here.
16:50It's the final level of an incredibly difficult Souls-like.
16:54And even with the patch, the enemies you'll face here still provide some of the toughest fights in the game.
16:59It ends with a battle against Asma, a truly stunning display of powerful attacks in hard-to-read combos spread
17:07across three phases with a ton of health to whittle down.
17:10If the enemies don't drive you mad, Asma certainly will.
17:22The Monster – Ghost Runner
17:25Everyone will eat, sleep, breathe, and breed according to the needs of the tower. No more violence, no more conflict,
17:34no more corruption.
17:36Another final level, and one whose insanely high difficulty you'll likely be unprepared for.
17:42The Monster features some of the most frustrating platforming you can find in a first-person game.
17:47You're working with platforms and walls that are pretty small in size, so propelling yourself forward and wall running requires
17:54the utmost perfect execution and timing.
17:57This is especially true in sections where walls move around, or areas that feature large red orbs that, if you
18:05touch, bring instant death.
18:07Even with your high agility and mobility, it isn't enough to stop you from dying over and over again, keeping
18:13you stuck here to spiral into madness, if you don't just give up entirely.
18:24The High-Spirited Demon – Nioh 2
18:37Everything about Nioh 2 is hard, but this mission just feels mean.
18:42You've got a lot of strong enemies to contend with at once, and wherever you go, you'll likely find them
18:48all bunched together in some really cramped locations that will make fighting them especially aggravating.
18:55There are also these huge yellow crystals placed throughout that release waves of damage when you're close, can only be
19:02damaged by melee weapons, can heal themselves, and are sometimes found in enemy encounters.
19:08It's hard not to feel like the developers were specifically trying to piss us off.
19:12At least the boss isn't too bad in comparison to others, but it's a huge chore to reach them.
19:25The Halig Tree – Elden Ring
19:33An optional dungeon in Elden Ring, the Halig Tree has since become one of its most famous locales.
19:39The design is immaculate, with impressive structures built across the branches of a gigantic tree, culminating in a keep at
19:47its base.
19:47Also, and this is saying something considering it's a FromSoftware game, it's one of the game's biggest challenges.
19:54As you descend, you'll be met by plenty of hardy foes that will consistently beat you back, keeping you from
20:00exploring further.
20:01As long as you can make it through them, you're rewarded with the hardest fight in the base game, Millennia.
20:07Her first phase has attacks with alarming range, and her second comes with the Scarlet Rot effect, dealing damage over
20:14time.
20:15Both have the annoying ability to heal herself with every hit, even if you block.
20:23Your strength. Extraordinary.
20:27Renoir's Drafts – Claire Obscure Expedition 33
20:41There are all types of places in Claire Obscure that you'll find while underleveled, that will quickly beat you down
20:48and send you packing.
20:49The best example of this is Renoir's Drafts, a level located underwater.
20:54Groups of enemies will come at you with more force than some of the game's bosses.
20:59And then, you have the level's actual bosses to deal with.
21:03First is the chromatic creation, with high defense, some detrimental combos, and the incredibly irritating inverted status effect, which turns
21:12all of your self-heals into damage.
21:15Then there's Simon, who quickly gained a reputation as one of the hardest bosses in recent memory,
21:20due to his high damage and ability to instantly wipe out your first set of party members at the halfway
21:26point.
21:26Best leave this until your max level.
21:38What are some of the hardest levels you've experienced on your PS5?
