00:08Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we are here to check out 10 Super Nintendo games that felt like
00:14they were almost impossible to finish back then and even still today. Before we begin,
00:27we publish new content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to be notified about
00:32our latest videos. Wolverine Adamantium Rage. The maze-like laboratory deep within the Hellfire
00:47Club stage is completely maddening, often halting players dead in their tracks. Wolverine ends up
00:53trapped in this labyrinth of confusion and death, and he must flip loads of switches to open specific
00:59panels in order to progress. On top of that, you must contend with tough as nails baddies that take
01:04forever to put down, with a quota on screen for certain intervals of this area. And if that wasn't
01:11already enough to make you put down your SNES controller in frustration, there's actually an
01:15invisible countdown timer that, if you don't stay ahead of it, means LCD comes for you which spells
01:22instant defeat. Oh, and Wolverine's healing factor is severely throttled in this area. Good golly.
01:37Super Double Dragon. Unless you are an absolute martial arts master, best of luck getting through
01:51Duke's Mansion unscathed. This sheer battle of attrition in the game's final area is no joke.
01:56It's essentially a boss rush gauntlet set around the opulent mansion, with plenty of goons to mess
02:02up your day as well. You don't get any checkpoints, the bosses are stronger here,
02:07and you simply don't get any breaks or reprieve to regain composure. Whereas the rest of the game
02:12gives you options to use weapons, the mansion strips this away, meaning you must solely rely
02:17on your martial arts prowess to best these powerful fools. It's also worth noting that much like
02:22adamantium rage, you have an invisible countdown timer, so you must keep moving forward at all
02:27times, no matter what. With an area named the flea pit, you know you aren't in for a good time,
02:50not by a long shot. The flea pit is a section of stages near the end of Pluck, before you
02:55face
02:55down the final boss of the game, the flea queen. This section of the game is essentially its version
03:01of Blightdown from Dark Souls. We're not kidding, it's tough. While not quite as oppressive considering
03:06this is a mostly cheery and vibrant platforming adventure, the flea pit tosses you into brutal
03:12section after brutal section, where you must rely on using each of the game's many vehicles,
03:17from unicycles to UFOs and everything in between, with some of them not being too easy to control.
03:23It's the way these areas constantly shift how you need to progress forward, with nary a break in sight,
03:29that makes it so darn grueling. So much so, that Pluck even states at the very end of it all,
03:34will I ever reach the end?
03:43Actraiser 2
03:52If you hope to see and face down the final boss of this game, Tanzra, then you best be prepared
03:57for
03:58an agonizing back-to-back boss rush that many players just simply gave up on. This game is
04:03chock full of bosses that can be tricky to battle, for sure, but having to pummel one after the other
04:08in rapid succession is just brutal. Enter Deathheim, the final area of the game, where, in order to square
04:14off against the big baddie himself, Tanzra, you must first quell the nefarious deeds of his sin-filled
04:20demon bosses. Now, on their own, each boss is quite simple and actually quick to beat. However,
04:26and this is a big however, doing so one after the other without health or magic pickups or checkpoints,
04:32and then facing Tanzra is nothing short of exhausting. It's no wonder then that many Actraiser 2
04:37players never saw the credits roll on this action-adventure title.
04:48Our MojoPlays livestream is impossible to finish since it's 24-7. Check it out by scanning that QR code onscreen.
04:55Super Castlevania IV. Ah yes, Stage B, the final gothic moody slog through the foreboding castle
05:12before you take on Death and Dracula. If you want to talk about a gatekeeping section of a game,
05:17then this would likely be it for many SNES fans out there. It's just downright punishing from start to end.
05:23While Super Castlevania IV might be a tad bit easier and even more accessible overall,
05:29when compared to others of its time frame, Stage B bucks that idea completely and just kicks it right
05:34out the window. Crumbling bridges and staircases, whip swinging bats and baddies galore, floating rock
05:40platforms, triple boss rush gauntlet, I mean you name it, this stage tosses it all at you as one final
05:46way to try to thwart your attack on Dracula. Now to be fair, the game does throw you a bone
05:52by giving
05:52you plenty of turkey legs and hearts to refill a bit, but it's still an arduous part of the game
05:57that
05:57often felt impossible to get through.
06:08Wild Guns.
06:15After wrapping up the tough but fair armored trained section of Wild Guns, you are quickly thrown into the final
06:21fight. A true gunslinging showdown for the ages that will test your
06:25mettle, your brawn, and of course your shooting prowess. How our boy Clint is meant to discern all of the
06:31bombast around him is simply beyond me. All while attempting to fire off successful shots of his own on the
06:37bosses and goons. In tandem with
06:39pocketing some extra gold, cause yeah why not. It's seriously overwhelming here. Dynamite explodes all around, targets are strewn about
06:47the screen, never knowing which are Clint's and which are the baddies, and it's all just so chaotic to keep
06:52up with. But persist you shall if you hope to square off against the final boss in an epic showdown
06:58of sci-fi western proportions.
07:08The Firemen.
07:17Only Japan and PAL regions received this awesome game about intense firefighting skirmishes. Players that enjoyed this game often had
07:25their hopes and dreams extinguished,
07:27however, once they reached the basement area of the game's final section, more specifically the chemical laboratory. This final section
07:34of the firemen is an all out endurance test that isn't for the faint of heart, not by a long
07:39shot.
07:40Pete and his fellow brave firefighters are tasked with the impossible, putting out a blazing inferno in the bowels of
07:46a large building, one wrought with chemical explosions and intense firewalls. With a strict timer ticking away, and your health
07:53whittling down, the pressure is tenfold here.
07:56And that final blazing boss fire section thing is just completely relentless. Hats off to all of the incredibly courageous
08:03firefighters out there. We certainly appreciate you.
08:14Super Star Wars Return of the Jedi.
08:17Super Star Wars
08:25While it would be really easy to just include the infamous Death Star tunnel section here, a section that is
08:31certainly brutal, mind you, it's actually an earlier part that stopped many players in their intergalactic tracks, the Death Star
08:37surface.
08:38Much of the game up to this point was pretty simple and straightforward 2D action adventure fair, but this section
08:44in the Millennium Falcon tasked you to awkwardly control and contort your ship around the surface of the Death Star,
08:50taking blood mist balls, that's what they look like to me, pot shots off on the enemy while trying to
08:56avoid getting shot down.
08:57Sounds pretty simple, right? Nope, not at all. The Millennium Falcon controls terribly and you easily get shot at from
09:04off screen with little to no warning at all.
09:06It's a short section for sure, but one that many Return of the Jedi fans failed to actually get past,
09:12never making it to that brutal tunnel later on.
09:23Gradius 3
09:29Gradius 3
09:29Being a shmup with bullet hell tendencies, it's no surprise really to be featuring Gradius 3 here on this list.
09:36And while the whole game could obviously be considered for why it's impossible to finish for many of us, just
09:42based on what type of brutal game it is, we are instead focusing on two hyper specific parts here near
09:48the very end of the game, before the final boss.
09:50A boss that actually isn't really all that tough to defeat.
09:53Now, the first super short but punishing section is where you must guide your ship through a multitude of rectangular
09:59sci-fi bits and bobs, all while avoiding enemy fire.
10:03It requires absolute pixel perfect precision.
10:06If you happen to make it past that, then you are greeted to a gooey, fleshy, alien-like area where,
10:11as you move your ship forward, squares of fleshy stuff fills in around you.
10:16These two super duper short but brutal, often gate keeping parts, ensure any hubris you might have had gets pummeled
10:22right into the ground.
10:30Super Ghouls and Ghosts
10:40The game most people probably have come to mind when thinking about Super Nintendo games that feel impossible to finish.
10:47Yes, it's that cruel and demanding of a game.
10:50It's an arcade style game that intentionally punishes you and forces you to go through it not once, but twice
10:56if you hope to see the true and final ending.
10:58Why, you might ask? Well, because, as the princess tells you, she needs the goddess's bracelet in order to be
11:04released.
11:05This bracelet needs to be carried by Arthur for the entire second run as well.
11:09So, it's now up to Arthur to face repeating death once again, but this time it's even tougher.
11:14So, to sum up, just beat the game once, find out it was a fake ending, do it all over
11:19again but even tougher the second time,
11:21all with the goddess bracelet in tow, defeat the basic version of Sardius, and then the final larger version of
11:27the evil demon fiend that is Sardius.
11:29Easy peasy. Cool cool. No. Okay, bye.
11:44So, what did you think of our picks for this list?
