00:19Since the overarching plot is released out of order, we'll be looking at it chronologically.

00:492,000 years ago, a demon named Mundus consumes fruit from the Quilof tree, becoming the emperor of the demon
00:57world.
00:57The Black Knight Sparta, once Mundus' prime general, fights and rebels against Mundus.
01:03After defeating Mundus, Sparta seals him and most of his malevolent forces away, shutting the demon world through various hell
01:11gates.
01:11The final portal, a massive tower called the Teman Ningru, is closed by using his own blood, the blood of
01:18a human priestess, and his namesake sword.
01:21Although most of his adventures over the next two millennia are a mystery, Sparta encountered further foes during this time.
01:28This included using the sword Yamato to seal another hell gate in the town of Fortuna.
01:33In awe of Sparta's heroics, the townspeople revere him as a god, worshipping him as their lord.
01:40Sparta also saved the people of Vi de Maril, battling an ancient evil known as Argosax the Chaos, alongside a
01:48woman called Matyr and her clan of protectors.
01:51Despite being trapped with Argosax in the demon world, Sparta somehow found his way back to the human world.
01:57At some point during modern times, Sparta meets and falls in love with a human woman named Ava.
02:03Giving up his demon life for good, Sparta marries Ava, who gives birth to twin sons, Virgil and Dante.
02:11For the first eight years of the boys' life, they form a family with Sparta and Ava, with their father
02:16training them in the art of battle.
02:19Ava gifts her sons two halves of an amulet, which Virgil and Dante treasure.
02:29However, after Sparta dies under unknown circumstances, the family is attacked by demons sent by Mundus, killing Ava and separating
02:39the brothers.
02:40Virgil, mistakenly believing his mother abandoned him to rescue Dante, harbors a grudge against his brother from there on.
02:47Each brother acquires weapons from their father. Dante claims the sword rebellion, while Virgil inherits the Yamato.
02:55Growing up separately, Dante ultimately becomes a mercenary, taking up jobs hunting demons.

03:05Meanwhile, Virgil comes to believe that unlocking his true demonic power is his destiny.
03:10He travels the world uncovering information about the demon world, eventually arriving in Fortuna.
03:17During his time there, he meets and impregnates a local woman, unaware of the birth of his son months later.
03:24At the age of 18, Dante and Virgil encounter each other once again.
03:28Years of resentment surface, and the brothers become rivals.
03:32Virgil refuses to abandon his quest for power, while Dante vows to stop him if he has to.
03:38The brothers part ways under acrimonious circumstances.
03:42A year later, Virgil's travels bring him across Arkham, a human obsessed with becoming a devil.
03:49Arkham, who killed his own wife to gain demonic powers, reveals that both halves of Virgil and Dante's amulet
03:55form the key to resurface Timon Negru and open the demon world.
03:59They then set their sights to lure Dante to the tower.

04:07Dante, who's opened an unnamed demon hunting shop, is attacked by Arkham.
04:13As the massive tower erupts into the sky, Dante deduces that Virgil wants to be found.
04:18Making his way to Timon Negru, a mysterious young woman arrives pursuing Arkham, whom Dante calls Lady.
04:25After venturing deeper into Timon Negru, Dante is antagonized by Jester, a demonic clown who constantly taunts him.
04:33Lady catches up to Arkham, who acknowledges her as his daughter Mary.
04:38Attempting to avenge her mother, Lady is overpowered by her father, before Dante rescues her.
04:44Learning he's also a demon, Lady vows to wipe out all of demon-kind.
04:49Making his way to the top of the tower, Dante confronts Virgil, who defeats his younger twin and claims his
04:55amulet.
04:56However, this activates Dante's demon side, pushing him to stop Virgil and Arkham's plans to bring the demon world to
05:03the human world.
05:04As Virgil and Arkham approach the door to the final chamber, Virgil betrays Arkham.
05:10Lady finds Arkham in his final moments, who convinces her his evil actions were part of Virgil's manipulations.
05:17Yes, I was manipulated. Manipulated by a devil named Virgil.

05:27Inside the chamber, Dante and Virgil clash again before they're interrupted by Lady and Jester.
05:34The latter reveals himself as Arkham in disguise, having set all of them up.
05:39As the descendant of the priestess whose blood Sparta used to seal Timon Nengru, Lady's blood, combined with the sons
05:45of Sparta's blood, is the final key to reach the demon world.
05:49Leaving the trio for dead, Arkham ventures into the demonic realm to find the Force Edge, the dormant form of
05:56Sparta's namesake sword.
05:58After battling his way back to the tower, Dante defeats Lady to face Arkham in the demon world.
06:03Meanwhile, Virgil sneaks up the tower as well, reaching Dante during his clash against an empowered Arkham.
06:10Working together, the brothers defeat Arkham.
06:16Finding her father wounded and weakened, an enraged lady kills him, avenging her mother.
06:22In the demon world, Dante and Virgil fight for ownership of the Force Edge, with Dante defeating his older twin.
06:29Virgil chooses to stay, reclaiming his half of the amulet before casting himself into the depths of the demon world.
06:36Witnessing Dante mourn the loss of his brother, Lady realizes that not all demons are evil.
06:42This wins him her respect, marking the beginning of their friendship.
06:47Lady leaves for her own adventures, but not before providing Dante with the name of his demon hunting business.

06:56In the demon world, an injured Virgil encounters Mundus, and decides to challenge him.
07:03However, Virgil is defeated and transformed into the Black Angel, Nilo Angelo, now Mundus' enslaved servant.
07:11The Yamato, shattered and in disrepair, ends up in Fortuna, in the hands of Agnes, a researcher for the Order
07:18of the Sword.
07:18Ten years later, Mundus begins his plan to escape the demon world by creating Trish, a demon in the visage
07:25of Dante and Virgil's mother, Ava.
07:28She approaches Dante in his shop, asking him to accompany her to Mallet Island to stop Mundus from opening a
07:34hell gate.
07:35Trish quickly abandons him, leaving Dante to explore the island on his own.
07:40During his stay, he's constantly stalked by Nilo Angelo, fighting the Black Knight on multiple occasions.
07:47Dante also faces off against Mundus' various monstrous servants, while discovering Sparta's history with Mundus.
07:55Nilo Angelo confronts Dante again, unmasking himself for the first time.
08:00Dante defeats his corrupted twin, who appears to perish in an explosion.
08:04With his half of the amulet left behind, Dante realizes Nilo Angelo and Virgil were one in the same.
08:11Unlocking the power of the Force Edge with both amulets, Dante possesses Sparta's namesake weapon.
08:17Eventually, Trish reveals herself as a spy from Mundus, although Dante continues to see the good in her.

09:02Trish begins to work independently, leaving Dante as the sole owner of the shop, renaming it back to Devil May

09:10Low on funds, Dante relies on loans from Lady and J.D. Morrison, his information broker.
09:16Needing money to pay off his debts, he accepts a job to bodyguard a young orphan named Patty Lowell.
09:23Initially believing her to be a rich heiress, Dante learns she's just a decoy, ultimately becoming Patty's reluctant caretaker.
09:31Meanwhile, Lady is hired to kill a female demon with mysterious powers, unaware that it is Trish.
09:37The two engage in a massive battle, believing the other to be the evil party.
09:42However, Dante intervenes just in time, introducing his allies to one another.
09:48During this time, a demon named Cid manipulates Dante, planning to use Patty to open a gate to the demon
09:55world.
09:55Patty, a descendant of a sorcerer named Allent Lowell, possesses the amulet needed to release the powers of the demon
10:02Abigail that Cid is after.
10:04Through the combined forces of Dante and his allies, Cid is defeated, and Abigail's powers vanquished.
10:11Reunited with her birth mother, Patty leaves Dante's care, who resumes demon hunting with Lady and Trish.

10:31Years later, now working alone, Dante meets Lucia, who takes him to visit Vi de Marie.
10:38Dante meets the now elderly, Matière, Lucia's mother, learning that a businessman named Arius has taken control of the island.
10:46Arius plans to release Argosax to Chaos and absorb its powers.
10:51Dante and Lucia decide to locate the Arcanus, holy relics Arius needs to summon Argosax.
10:56The pair end up in a confrontation with Arius, who reveals Lucia as his failed creation.
11:03Despite asking Dante to sacrifice her to save the human world, the latter trades Lucia's life with the Arcanus.
11:09While Dante leaves to stop Arius from opening the portal to the demon world, Matière confirms Lucia's status as a
11:16creation of Arius.
11:18However, by emphasizing the difference between Lucia's inherent goodness to Arius' evil, Matière reaffirms her bond with Lucia as her
11:26adoptive mother.
11:27Her faith restored, Lucia heads to assist Dante.
11:30The latter engages in a battle with Arius, defeating the villain but unable to prevent Argosax's return.

11:46Yeah.

11:50Realizing it will be a one-way trip to the demon world, Dante and Lucia toss a coin to decide
11:55who goes in.
11:56As it lands on Dante, he bids her farewell.
11:59Despite losing to Dante, Arius returns as an undead abomination, empowered by Argosax's rise.
12:07Fighting Lucia one last time in a bid for revenge, Arius is defeated for good.
12:12With Vi de Marly's safety ensured, Lucia waits for Dante's return.
12:17In the demon world, Dante and Argosax face off.
12:21Despite transforming into its true form, the entity falls to Dante, ending its long-standing threat for good.
12:28Finding the portal to the human world closed, Dante heads deeper into the demon world, looking for a way back.
12:35Back on Earth, a despondent Lucia is comforted by Montierre, reminding her of Sparta's return from a similar fate.
12:42A short time later, Lucia still waits for Dante in his shop, heading out when she hears the sound of
12:49a motorbike.
12:50Dante comes across a hole, interdimensional gateways that connect the demon world with the human realm.
12:56He enters one to return back home, sharing a warm reunion with Lucia.
13:01After gaining the closure she needed, Lucia returns to Vi de Marly, while Dante resumes his demon hunting business.
13:08Some time later, Dante reunites with Trish and Lady, with the former rejoining Devil May Cry as his partner.
13:15Lady offers him a job to investigate the Order of the Sword's suspicious activities in Fortuna.
13:21The people who live there today take these legends as truth and worship them, just like a god.
13:27They worship a demon as a god?
13:30Trish heads off by herself, disguising herself as Gloria to spy on the Order from within.
13:35Dante conducts his own investigation, taking an interest in a young guardsman named Nero.
13:41Intrigued by Nero's Devilbringer arm, Dante suspects he and Nero might be related.
13:47With information from Trish, Dante deduces the Order's true purpose, creating an army of demons and unlocking a Hellgate to
13:55take over the world.
13:56The Order's leader, High Priest Sanctus, creates a massive statue named the Savior as his main weapon.
14:02To do so, he plans to lure Dante to Fortuna and use him as the key to activate the Savior,
14:09knowing Dante will arrive to claim the Yamato.
14:12However, learning Nero shares Sparta's blood, Sanctus shifts his focus to him instead.
14:17Hoping to thwart Sanctus' plans before they can be put into motion, Dante crashes a ceremony and assassinates him.
14:25Nero, believing Dante to be the enemy, engages him in battle.
14:29Realizing the depths of Nero's powers, Dante's belief of their familiar relations strengthens.
14:35After ending their fight on a stalemate...

14:43Abilities.
14:47Dante leaves to take care of the rest of the Order while Nero is tasked with capturing him.
14:52During his mission, Nero uncovers the Order's plans, locating the Yamato held by the organization's head researcher, Agnes.
15:00The sword repairs itself in Nero's presence, empowering him and unlocking his devil trigger, forcing Agnes to flee.
15:08Believing his mentor Credo can bring the Order to justice, Nero is surprised with Credo's involvement with the organization.
15:15The two fight, but are interrupted by Agnes, who holds Credo's sister and Nero's love interest, Kairi, hostage.
15:22Meanwhile, Nero fails to rescue Kairi and encounters Dante once again.
15:27Noticing how the Yamato reacts to him, Dante realizes that not only are he and Nero related, Nero is Vergil's
15:35son.
15:41You cool off yet, kid?
15:43Despite beating Nero in combat, Dante allows him to keep the Yamato since their interests are in line.
15:50Nero confronts Sanctus to save Kairi, who's been revived through demonic means, but finds himself outmatched and absorbed into the
15:57savior.
15:58Credo attempts to help, but is slayed by Sanctus, asking Dante's help before he perishes.
16:08Ha! Check it out! It's got wings!
16:12The design shows terrible taste.
16:15While Trish evacuates Fortuna's citizens, he destroys all the Hellgates within the city.
16:20Dante also kills Agnes to regain the Yamato, which he uses to retrieve Nero.
16:25Keeping the savior busy from the outside, Dante tasks Nero to finish Sanctus off from within.
16:31Fueled by the power of the Yamato, Nero confronts Sanctus one more time, foiling his plans and destroying him with
16:39the savior.
16:40Meeting Dante before bidding farewell, Nero attempts to return the Yamato.
16:44However, Dante entrusts him with it, choosing not to reveal their connection as uncle and nephew just yet.
16:50I thought this meant a lot to you.
16:53That's the only kind of gift worth giving.
16:57I want to entrust it to you, so I am.

17:02With the safety of Fortuna restored, Nero and Kairi begin a relationship, while Dante heads back home with Lady and
17:10Trish.
17:10Over the next five years, Nero and Kairi move in together, looking after the orphanage in Fortuna.
17:17Continuing his association with Dante, Nero opens a branch of Devil May Cry in the city, becoming a devil hunter
17:24in his own right.
17:25Nero also befriends Agnes' long-abandoned daughter, Nico, who works as an inventor and craftswoman, and provides him with advanced
17:33weaponry.
17:34With Nico's help, Devil May Cry becomes a mobile branch, as the pair travel and look for demons to hunt.
17:40Meanwhile, Dante returns to Vi de Marlee at Matier's request.
17:45Learning that Balrog, Argosax's right-hand man, is tormenting the island.
17:49Dante reunites with Lucia to battle the demon.
17:53Balrog uses a shard of Yamato as his main source of power, alerting Dante to the possibility of Vergil's survival.
18:00Despite the power boost, Balrog is no match for Dante, choosing to become one of the latter's devil arms instead.
18:08With their mission over, Lucia ponders over revealing her feelings for him, but discouraged by Dante's obliviousness, she bids him
18:15farewell instead.
18:17Although finally free of Mundus' control, the weakened Vergil's body begins to deteriorate.
18:22Drawn to the Yamato's power, Vergil ambushes Nero, cutting off his Devilbringer and regaining his sword once more.
18:30I'm taking this back.
18:37Unable to sustain himself, Vergil returns to his family home and splits himself into different forms.
18:43A host of demonic familiars from his corruption is Nilo Angelo, a demonic abomination named Urizin, who embodies his lust
18:50for power, and a human named V, who represents the good in him.
18:54Urizin takes control of Redgrave City, using the Queloth demon tree to drain its citizens of their blood.
19:01Urizin intends to consume the Queloth's fruit to become a king like Mundus had two millennia ago.
19:07V finds himself crumbling without his other half.
19:09Three days later, he makes his way to Devil May Cry, hiring Dante to stop Urizin's destruction of Redgrave City,
19:17while Morrison contacts Lady and Trish to assist them.
19:20Upon learning that Urizin is Vergil's demonic alter ego, Dante accepts the job.
19:25However, even with Nero, V, Lady, and Trish by his side, Dante is overwhelmed by Urizin's power and falls into
19:34a coma.
19:35While Lady and Trish are captured, Nero and V flee.
19:38Hey! Get Nero out of here! This was a bad move!
19:42I can still fight!
19:44Nero!
19:44Go! You're just dead weight!
19:46One month later, the Queloth is close to burying the fruit, forcing Nero and V to act again.
19:52The pair destroys as many Queloth fruits as they can.
19:55Nero rescues Lady, while V discovers Dante along with his sword Sparta.
20:00After Dante frees Trish, he awakens his own demonic side like Vergil, unlocking the true potential of his powers.

20:13Fighting their way to Urizin, Dante and V arrive just in time to save Nero.
20:18With his newfound abilities, Dante is able to defeat Urizin.
20:22However, before anyone can stop him, V merges with Urizin, restoring Vergil back to full strength.
20:29Still consumed with his grudge against Dante, Vergil challenges him to a duel at the top of the Quello.
20:35Initially ignoring Nero's attempts to help, Dante reveals the truth.
20:40Nero is Vergil's son.
20:42That's not it, Nero! What is it then?
20:44He's your father!
20:44Refusing to let Nero kill his own father, Dante chooses to face Vergil alone.
20:50Hurt and distraught by the rivalry that broke their family apart, Nero resolves to stop their fighting, awakening his demon
20:57side and healing his arm.
20:59Witnessing Nero's powers, Vergil acknowledges their relationship.
21:03After engaging in a one-on-one fight, a defeated Vergil admits defeat.
21:09Dante and Vergil decide to cut down the Qualoft tree in the demon world, which will trap them inside.
21:15Entrusting Nero with responsibility of the human realm, the brothers bid goodbye, and Vergil promises Nero they'll meet again.
21:23I won't lose next time.
21:28Hold on to that until then.
21:31Weeks later, Lady and Trish put their own differences aside to run Devil May Cry together until Dante returns.
21:38Once their mission in the underworld is accomplished, Dante and Vergil spend their time sparring and fighting demons together.
21:44After years of hostility, the twins finally reach an understanding to set their resentment aside for good.
21:50And with that, the Devil May Cry timeline comes to a close, at least for now.
