05:12There were so many different motorcycle manufacturers that had a bicycle out.

05:19They were building the bicycles to actually emulate the early motorcycles.

05:25It's a Hiawatha.
05:26Look how he built a platform in there so we could have a place to mount the motor.
05:29So he built this thing from scratch.

08:24As I'm looking around here, I'm seeing all these Amoco signs.

08:26I bought out a Pollock Collins Oil Company in Anson, Alabama,
08:30that started in the 30s.
08:32You bought out the entire bulk plant?

08:35What attracted you to that brand?
08:37I like the flame when everybody else does, too.
08:39I bought out distributorships and probably six to eight collections total.

08:47When I bought it, this plastic was really not worth a lot at all.

08:52I've hung on to it all the years and accelerated prices, so I take $1,500 for it.

09:05Plastic is something that is flimsy and breakable.
09:08Where lexan came out and it was actually a hardened material in its early days,
09:13the longer it sat in the sun, though, it became warped and actually would become brittle.

09:20That's the only, you know, the thing with lexan signs.

09:25It's gotten so brittle because of the sun.

09:47but earlier collectors are buying these and lighting them up.

10:43That's kind of this whole area is stuff that he found and go ahead and fix it up and make

10:48envision that he had.
10:49I'm excited that her husband was a bicycle guy and an artist because when I look at my bike collection,
10:55I look at it as industrial art. The lines, the colors, the design, its function and form joined together in
11:02a beautiful way.
11:03So, have you guys decided what you're going to do with this?
11:05Not really. I mean, my dad passed away four years ago.
11:09He was the best husband.
11:11He brought joy and laughter to all occasions.
11:15It was an honor and privilege to have 39 plus years with him.
11:18We still miss him every day.
11:20There's a lot of sentimental value to certain pieces, but not everything.
11:23The outlaw bike is a creation, not necessarily a restoration.
11:26And that's probably why we won't look to sell right now.
11:28What's really cool is the history on these things.
11:31Yeah, the Corvettes.
11:31All the lights, the Delta, the Rocket Ray.
11:34Look at you. I love that you just said Rocket Ray.
11:37Yeah.
11:37There's a selection of bikes here from a lot of different eras of bicycling.
11:40This is kind of like all the motorbike era, what they called.
11:43And then they got into balloon tires.
11:45But what I'm not seeing yet is a lot of turn of the century bikes.
11:48That's the stuff I really love because it has a connection with early motorcycles.
11:51This is what they call a B10E.
11:53This was actually Schwinn's first balloon tire bike.
11:56It was a big transition because they were coming from a metal clad,
12:00wood rim or a metal rim with a pneumatic tire that was a tube and a tire in one.
12:06And then they went to this balloon tire and it was a big game changer.
12:10The exciting thing about the Schwinn B10E is that it was Igneous Schwinn's first balloon tire bicycle.
12:16It was a smaller wheel, but a fatter tire.
12:19This is 1933, 1934.
12:21They were trying to emulate the motorcycles at that time.
12:24And then this has a toolbox tank on it where the tank actually opens up.
12:29That's amazing.
12:30And if you look across here, there's another one that's got a toolbox tank
12:32and another one that's got a toolbox tank.
12:35There's a deluxe and then this one's a Hawthorne.
12:37What's interesting about the deluxe is it's got the Western Union badge on the front of it.
12:41So that's a crossover and that's got a larger tank on it.
12:45The tank on the bike wasn't just a dead space.
12:47There was a door on the side.
12:48You can carry a comic book.
12:49You can carry your baseball cards.
12:50You can carry tools.
12:52That's what's so cool about these bikes.
12:53Was this a bike that he restored?
12:55Yes, I believe so.

12:57He cared to have someone do the saddle correctly.
13:00It's got a different rim on it.
13:01This is not the correct pedal.
13:03Paint job on this bike is nowhere near what it would have been originally.

13:19But again, he built it and restored it as a rider.

13:41The Hawthorne Flyer has the wrong wheels on it.
13:43So that's the wrong rim, the wrong hubs.

13:48The bike has been repainted and it's more of an amateur paint job.
13:51He was building these bikes to ride them.
13:53And the only way to enjoy them sometimes is just to change the wheel set out.

13:59I can see out of the corner of my eye an early motorcycle frame.
14:03And I know as soon as I do the deal on these bikes, Jersey is going to be all over

14:44Part of it came from my store in Tennessee.

14:56He told me in the 15 minutes, I bought the whole store out.

17:14That's his Marshmets frame.
17:16In this sea of bicycles, I spot something a little heavier, a little bit clunkier,
17:21a bigger sized frame.
17:22It's not a bicycle frame.
17:24It's an early motorcycle frame.
17:26He swapped the guy for a wizard for that.

17:29For the frame or a bike?
17:31There were parts of it and skeletons of a motor.
17:34This is a cool company because Marshmets, the name Metz, is a big deal when it comes
17:39to early motorcycles because prior to this, he was with Orient.

17:43And they also were making Metz automobiles as well.
17:46Marshmets came from two different motorcycle companies.
17:49Charles Metz had marketing expertise.
17:51He knew how to manufacture.
17:53The Marsh brothers had experience in making high performance motorcycles and they merged
17:58together in 1906.
18:00This was a motorcycle brotherhood.
18:01How long did he work on this thing?
18:03He got the frame when our daughter was one and she just turned 39 yesterday.
18:08This has been a long-term project and I know that feeling.
18:11Patience is a joke.
18:12Is this something you guys would consider selling?

18:18The parts are kind of all over the place.

26:42The first Elgin Bluebird was made in 1935 from the brilliant mind of Juan Rodolphus
