00:00Huh. What is this?
00:04Hello! Very nice to meet you. Why did you jump out at me like that?
00:08Apologies. I did not mean to startle you. I have just been inactive for a very long time.
00:13Welcome to MojoPlays, and the PS5 might not have the same enormous library of games as its predecessors,
00:19but that doesn't mean a few don't get overlooked and deserve far more recognition and players than they have.
00:34Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest
00:39videos.
00:42Grand Blue Fantasy Relink
00:44Brace yourself!
00:49Lilia, what gives? Why has Bahamut gone all bonkers?
00:53Outside of Japan, the Grand Blue Fantasy series might not be as well known as the Final Fantasy franchise,
00:58but with Relink, the fantasy RPG epic makes the jump from handheld to console,
01:04and the transition is a surprisingly solid JRPG adventure.
01:08With a story that doesn't waste the player's time with unnecessary bloat,
01:11and a cast of interesting and charming characters,
01:14the game's short length compared to its contemporaries is actually one of the game's strengths.
01:19However, where the game truly shines is in its action-heavy combat.
01:23The series' mobile roots make combat reminiscent of Genshin Impact,
01:27with each character having their own special skillsets and abilities,
01:30and enough strategy and character rosters to cater to nearly anyone's playstyle.
01:35With multiple playstyles and game mechanics,
01:37and a brisk but rewarding story and surprisingly deep endgame content,
01:41Relink is a solid all-around RPG experience that was missed by far too many at release.
01:47Salvation follows at my heels.
01:50The sky will fall, and the stars will ascend.
01:55Utopia is within my grasp.
01:57The Altars.
01:58Now, heading for the unknown,
02:02I can't really tell.
02:06Is this the end of the road?
02:10Or is it yet another branching?
02:12Proving critical acclaim doesn't always lead to recognition,
02:16the Altars disappeared almost immediately after release,
02:20despite the near-universal acclaim by everyone who played it.
02:23Taking the familiar survival sim-style gameplay
02:26and filling out the many roles needed for your station to survive with clones of yourself,
02:31each with their own personality and alternate backstory depending on which task they're specifically created for.
02:36However, being trapped in a singular location with clones of yourself often leads to interpersonal drama
02:42you need to contend with alongside the hazards outside.
02:45The game also forces the player to deal with moral decisions on how to handle their clones
02:50and how much you'll push them to accomplish your mission and survive.
02:54The clever script is brought to life brilliantly by Alex Jordan,
02:57playing all 14 versions of himself, each with their own accent and personality,
03:02and is an incredible sci-fi experience that shouldn't be missed.
03:05You have Lena and I have my Altars.
03:10Maybe they're my family.
03:13Hey, there you go.
03:15Labyrinth of the Demon King
03:16Labyrinth of the Demon King is the kind of experience we as gamers haven't had since the days of the
03:22PS1,
03:23and not just because of the graphical aesthetic.
03:25It combines elements of Elder Scrolls-style combat with Silent Hill's atmosphere
03:29and a PS1 retro-inspired graphical style to create the most authentic PS1 experience that was never released on the
03:36PS1.
03:37The surprisingly varied polygonal enemies can be truly unsettling thanks to the game's brilliant art design,
03:43but the most truly impressive aspect of the game is the titular Labyrinth itself,
03:47filled with winding corridors that circle back on themselves full of shortcuts, hidden paths, and countless secrets to uncover.
03:53Labyrinth of the Demon King was woefully under-marketed at release,
03:57but is one of the most impressive solo indie dev titles on the PS5.
04:01Somerville
04:11Whereas most games about alien invasions focus on either the invasion or the aftermath,
04:16Somerville offers players a much more somber and cinematic version of an alien encounter.
04:22With the simple premise of finding your family,
04:24the world you explore has long since been conquered by the aliens with their strange tech everywhere and all new
04:30dangers to contend with.
04:32The camera work and the presentation are top-notch and perfectly convey exactly what the devs want the player to
04:37experience,
04:38and we'd expect nothing less from one of the co-founders of Playdead, the creators of Inside.
04:43Somerville feels like an A24 version of an alien invasion,
04:47focusing less on the destruction and more of the human cost,
04:51and navigating the many puzzles before you in this familiarly unfamiliar world.
04:55Fans of Playdead's previous games owe it to themselves to take a trip to Somerville.
05:06Absalom
05:07Like this old tree, I may be waning, but I still serve. Its roots are weak, but it can regrow.
05:17A true genre mashup, Absalom is a beat-em-up roguelike set within a wonderfully detailed and vibrant fantasy world.
05:24The game's combat is as solid as you'd expect from some of the former developers of the equally brilliant Streets
05:30of Rage 4,
05:31and the roguelike systems of Hades, utilizing permanent progression buffs and allowing you to build your ultimate fighter
05:37to take on the game's many tricky and challenging enemies and bosses.
05:40Something completely overlooked within the genre is the narrative and world-building, but Absalom excels here as well.
05:47The world feels lived in, and the environments are filled with hidden details to uncover while punching and kicking your
05:53way through the game's gorgeous levels.
05:54With four playable characters, each with their own skill sets rather than simple weapon swaps,
05:59Absalom improves on the familiar formula much the way Hades did before it,
06:03but somehow hasn't received the same recognition as that genre-defining title.
06:08It isn't over for me. Your Majesty.
06:16I Am Your Beast.
06:18Your country needs you. The Covert Operations Initiative needs you. And you killed my men. You owe me.
06:26See? I don't think that's true.
06:29Fans of Superhot, Neon White, or Ghostrunner are truly missing out on something special by not playing I Am Your
06:36Beast.
06:36Insanely violent and insanely fast, I Am Your Beast tasks players on their quest for revenge to kill all the
06:43enemies within the level as quickly, creatively, and stylishly as possible,
06:47all without taking a single ounce of damage.
06:50With some runs lasting only a minute, the game challenges you to beat your best time by replaying levels and
06:56uncovering the best route and methods of execution for the many nameless soldiers interrupting your retirement.
07:01With each level including challenge multipliers, gleefully slaughtering your way through the endless waves of enemies scattered through every level
07:08is a far more rewarding experience that deserves to be played by not only fans of speedrunning or those wanting
07:14a challenge, but for anyone wanting a bloody good time.
07:17Special Agent Harding. Remember when you used to try to call me with an access code? I can't miss it.
07:25Ball Pit. It's not often someone is able to take the tried and true roguelike formula and put their own
07:31spin on it. Pun intended.
07:33Dropping players into the depths of the pit to face off against near endless waves of enemies and bosses is
07:39already a good time, but the addition of run changing power-ups and fusions that can send so many balls
07:45and power-ups flying across the screen is a zen-like experience.
07:48While not overly complex, the town-building mechanic has its perks such as additional permanent stat boosts as well as
07:55unlocking new characters, all with unique ways to play and shoot their balls.
08:00The gameplay loop is incredibly addicting, and before you know it, you've lost countless hours on just one more run
08:06to unlock a new bonus or character, and then of course you must try them out in the pit, and
08:11that's how the game gets you.
08:13Just pure, unadulterated fun, and it's perfection. Bionic Bay.
08:24These days, it's difficult to innovate on the 2D platformer genre, and on the surface, Bionic Bay looks like a
08:30standard 2D pixel art platformer.
08:32However, once you start playing, the game's innovative use of physics quickly differentiates it from other platformers in the same
08:39genre.
08:39Bionic Bay is incredibly gorgeous, with the camera-shifting perspectives giving scale to just how massive its environments can be,
08:47and swapping between objects within the environments, or diving to narrowly miss a stray laser shot and catch the edge
08:53of a platform keeps gameplay consistently intense.
08:56The level of detail is staggering, and the world is incredibly reactive to the player's actions, offering puzzles that make
09:03you feel clever for finally solving them rather than walking you through them.
09:07Blending physics puzzles with its frenetic platforming sections, Bionic Bay is a challenging and rewarding throwback to old-school platformers
09:15that got lost amongst a busy release window.
09:24The Entropy Center
09:31Portal 2 released over a decade ago, and despite numerous imitators, the Entropy Center is about as close to a
09:38spiritual successor to the Portal games fans could ask for.
09:41Although puzzles are still the core of the gameplay, here replacing portals with a time manipulation gun, the story, and
09:47especially the quirky AI Astra, make exploring the lunar station and preventing Earth's destruction a journey you care about outside
09:55of the gameplay.
09:55The writing is almost on par with that of the Portal series, and the numerous environments you explore are filled
10:01with environmental details to flesh out the world and backstory, and the game introduces new game mechanics at a steady
10:08pace, allowing you to grow accustomed to the new changes in mechanics instead of overwhelming you early on.
10:13While we might never get another Portal game, the Entropy Center more than fills that void left by Valve's inability
10:19to count to three.
10:20Hey there, Entropy Bot looks lost and confused.
10:25Well that makes two of us.
10:27Crow Country
10:37Retro horror games are essentially their own genre at this point, but few have managed to recapture the unsettling magic
10:43of PS1 horror the way Crow Country does.
10:46Everything about the game recreates the best the survival horror genre had to offer back in the early days of
10:52Resident Evil and Silent Hill.
10:54The environments are appropriately unsettling, the enemy designs are the perfect blend of creepy and polygonal, the puzzles are creative
11:01without being obtuse, inventory management is streamlined, and ammo supplies are reserved just enough to keep up the tension.
11:08Crow Country isn't just a brilliant homage to horror games of the 90s, it subverts players' expectations of genre tropes,
11:15and constantly keeps players on the edge with its unexpected twists and turns.
11:19Don't let the cutesy art style fool you, Crow Country is an unsettling homage and a scary good time for
11:25those nostalgic for the bygone era of survival horror.
11:36Rise of the Ronin
11:37Those who cleave to the past, those who embrace the new, and the Ronin, a warrior free of all masters
11:47and bonds.
11:47Upon its first reveal, many wrote Rise of the Ronin off as the Ghost of Tsushima clone, but in truth,
11:55the game has much more in common with Assassin's Creed than Sucker Punch's masterpiece.
11:59Set during the early 1900s in Japan, players are given a massive open world to explore, and their choices can
12:07affect the outcome of the narrative and their relationships with the many real-life historical figures they meet.
12:13The game's combat is where the game truly shines, offering players various weapons to suit their playstyle and a plethora
12:20of satisfying finishing moves.
12:22The game does suffer from the traditional Ubisoft formula with an excess of map icons, but the world itself is
12:29fun to explore full of varied traversal mechanics.
12:32Friendly, we need all the help we can get. I'm going to need you on our side.
12:40Marvel's Midnight Suns
12:56We'll be the first to admit we were a little skeptical about this one when it was first announced.
13:02A card battle game set in the Marvel Universe from the developers of XCOM seemed like a stretch.
13:08The use of randomized cards in turn-based battles was also a major hang-up for us, and seemingly quite
13:15a few others given the game's lukewarm sales.
13:18However, what easily could have been a microtransaction-heavy gacha game turned out to be surprisingly fleshed out and added
13:25additional strategic depth to battles.
13:27Getting to know the many familiar heroes in between combat encounters and using the growth of those relationships to unlock
13:33further combat abilities makes the time between battles just as important and, thankfully, all of our favorite heroes are well
13:41-written and fleshed out.
13:42Would we have preferred an XCOM-style Marvel game? Absolutely.
13:46But if Midnight Suns clicks with you, it's one of the best superhero outings in years.
13:51We need to plan for what comes next.
13:54What's next? Armageddon has already happened, caretaker. What's next is hell.
14:01Trapang 2.
14:09We'll be featuring a lot of throwback games to scratch that nostalgic itch on our list, so just be prepared
14:15for that.
14:15Not every first-person shooter wants to be the next Call of Duty, and Trapang 2 takes more inspiration from
14:21the Fear series than anything else, and honestly, we're here for it.
14:26The use of slow-mo during gunfights is top-notch, with all the classic bullets and blood exploding in gloriously
14:33gratuitous fashion that fills us with childish glee for the days before everything was hyper-realistic.
14:40The plot is as forgettable as you could imagine, but that's not what you're playing this game for.
14:44The real draw is the ballet of bullets, and the devs clearly had fun creating every single enemy encounter, and
14:52given the game's lightning-fast pace and the enemy's surprisingly competent AI, each playthrough can end up feeling like a
14:59brand-new experience.
15:11Pacific Drive
15:12There's no greater bond than between a driver, the road, and their vehicle, and no game embodies this idea more
15:20than Pacific Drive.
15:21Set against the backdrop of supernatural shenanigans in the Pacific Northwest, players need to traverse the many dangers of the
15:28Exclusion Zone, and gather resources to upgrade their station wagon to go further into the zone for even better equipment
15:35and gear.
15:35The survival mechanics are deeply woven into the gameplay, and with your home base on wheels needing constant maintenance in
15:43addition to experiencing supernatural events that give your car a mind of its own,
15:47every trip into the zone is a new experience, turning this extraction survival sim into more of a roguelike.
15:53The background narrative revolving around the events that led to the zone are wonderfully incorporated into the world itself, and
16:00the deeper players go, the more they learn about the world.
16:03Still Wakes the Deep
16:11There is truly no shortage of horror exploration games out there, but few, if any, are as immersive as Still
16:18Wakes the Deep.
16:20Set on an oil rig in the 1970s, everything about the rig is recreated with such impressive detail you'd swear
16:27the developers had lived this life themselves.
16:29Full of interesting side characters, simply exploring the rig and getting to know your crew members is an experience itself.
16:37However, once the horror kicks in, it really kicks in.
16:41Drawing inspiration from Lovecraftian lore, the creatures the player attempts to escape from are truly spawned from the deepest of
16:48nightmares.
16:48The isolation and claustrophobia of being trapped in the middle of the ocean is palpable, and is arguably a terrifying
16:55experience all on its own.
16:57It's rare when all the elements of a horror experience come together this perfectly, and the game's relatively short length
17:04makes surviving this nightmare easily digestible in a single playthrough.
17:08Renech! I'm right here! Archie, stop! Wait! Wait!
17:17Robocop Rogue City
17:19Guys, guys! We've got company! Anyone expecting a silver freak?
17:29Drop it, scum!
17:31Robocop has been around long enough that much of its future technology are now modern-day conveniences.
17:37But Robocop remains a timeless icon much like the Terminator, and has finally received a game deserving of its status.
17:44Putting players in the cybernetic boots of the one-man police squad, players will need to clean up the streets
17:50of Old Detroit, and the decisions they make during the game's many missions can affect the overall outcome of the
17:56story, giving players far more agency over what easily could have been a traditional licensed shooter experience.
18:02Rogue City perfectly nails the aesthetic of the classic Robocop films, and even got many series regulars to reprise their
18:10roles, including Robocop himself, Peter Wellers.
18:13Fans of the films, or even just a good old first-person shooter experience, owe it to themselves to give
18:19this one a shot.
18:20People would do anything to be in your position, to have your abilities, and yet, you attach yourself to something
18:28that is the weakest in you, to the part that's still human.
18:34Evil West
18:35Oh, I'll be damned. That's a new way to spend taxpayers' money.
18:41With every game these days chasing the uncanny valley, sometimes, you just want a game focused on nothing more than
18:48the power fantasy of letting you loose to have a good time.
18:51A throwback to the PS2 era of third-person shooters, Evil West sets players on a quest to call a
18:57supernatural uprising, and gives you an obscene amount of steampunk and Tesla-inspired equipment to do it.
19:04A ridiculous premise, full of clunky dialogue, in the best ways, solid, impactful, and bloody combat, and some truly grotesque
19:12monster designs, Evil West knows exactly what it wants to be, and wants nothing more than its players to have
19:18fun.
19:19Full of old-school combos and finishing moves, and a nice lean and linear campaign, Evil West is the blockbuster
19:26weekend rental of video games, and the perfect nostalgic binge for players longing for the old-school days of gaming.
19:32We need to be bigger than ever.
19:34And smarter.
19:35With better protocols.
19:37And stronger lines of communication.
19:39Well, it sounds like you two have it all under control. You've got my full support.
19:44A Plague Tale Requiem.
19:46You shouldn't have come.
19:49You don't want to do this, believe me.
19:51You talk too much.
19:52A Plague Tale innocence enraptured players in the emotional journey of Amicia and her brother Hugo, as they navigated the
20:00Black Plague and the endless stream of highly infected and deadly rats.
20:04The sequel managed to build on this premise in every way imaginable.
20:09The stakes and the world are much bigger.
20:12The number of rats and dangers the pair encounter are somehow even more insurmountable, and the emotional bond between brother
20:19and sister remains core to the journey as Amicia learns to deal not only with Hugo's condition, but the rage
20:26building inside her.
20:27The gorgeous world remains both tragically beautiful and horrific as they travel the French countryside running from both the rats
20:34and the Inquisition,
20:35and combat has been greatly improved by providing players with more options during encounters, as well as more ways to
20:42approach the game stealthily.
20:43The entire series deserves far more recognition than it has received.
20:48Your voice doesn't help.
20:51Stop trying to be so tough. You might learn something.
20:55Prince of Persia The Lost Crown
20:58All hope rests with us, the immortals, to rescue him and save the Empire.
21:05The Prince of Persia franchise has been dormant for the better part of a decade now,
21:10and the planned remake of The Sands of Time's future ended up needing a rewind itself,
21:15but in the meantime, Ubisoft took a break from the Assassin's Creed machine to give players probably one of the
21:21best and most innovative Metroidvanias of the generation.
21:25While the game might be Prince of Persia in name alone,
21:28the puzzles, combat, and world are all wonderfully designed and crafted with their own unique visual style and aesthetic.
21:35Over the course of the game, the player will acquire numerous time-bending abilities that are well implemented into the
21:42gameplay and combat encounters,
21:44along with some truly impressive boss fights.
21:46The game arguably should have been a major hit with Metroidvania fans,
21:50but for whatever reason, the game disappeared from most players' radar as the year of major releases carried on.
22:06Returnal
22:16It's not often a critically acclaimed Sony first party game gets lost in the shuffle,
22:21but barely a year into the PS5 and Returnal kind of just came and went.
22:26Developed by Bullet Hell Maestro's housemark,
22:29the team adapted their perfected style of gameplay to the 3D space,
22:33and wrapped it all together in a twisting, mind-bending time loop narrative
22:37that would have had Christopher Nolan checking the game's wiki for answers.
22:42Admittedly, the game's difficulty, as well as the fact there was no way to save mid-run at launch,
22:47was a strict barrier for entry, but that's honestly also the game's biggest draw.
22:52Not completing the game in a single playthrough, that was just ridiculous.
22:55The souls-like difficulty, mixed with roguelike elements,
22:59keeps those dedicated enough coming back for just one more run.
23:03And the game's surprisingly deep and emotional narrative
23:06is more than enough for the rest to push through the game's difficulty spikes.
23:20Which PS5 game do you feel deserves more attention from gamers?
