00:00So, what kind of magic can you use?
00:06Well, essentially any and all kinds of magic. After all, this whole world is in my dream.
00:13Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we're taking a look at 10 wonderful RPGs
00:18that we would love to see get the full-on remake treatment. Here's hoping.
00:29Before we begin, we publish new content all week long,
00:32so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:39Harry Potter and the Sorcerers slash Philosopher's Stone Game Boy Color.
00:50Where most Harry Potter games of this time were pretty standard action adventure titles,
00:55Sorcerer's Stone flippendoed the script and made it a full-on turn-based RPG. It's awesome.
01:00The wizarding world here feels quite fleshed out and interactive,
01:04despite the hardware limitations of the Game Boy Color.
01:06We would love to see a ground-up remake of this game in the vein of something like
01:11Sea of Stars or even Octopath Traveler. The game's turn-based combat is a lot of fun,
01:16leaning into all of the magical spells and abilities from the source material.
01:20Leveling up Harry and equipping the right abilities for a fight is enjoyable and entertaining.
01:25Plus, the game even lets you spend time exploring Hogwarts and attending classes.
01:37Dragon Quest VIII Journey of the Cursed King
01:49Now, I still have many fond memories of playing this game on my PS2 with that additional screen
01:55accessory that you could actually attach to the console. Anyone else remember those? Good times.
02:01Even over 20 years later, Dragon Quest VIII still holds up remarkably well,
02:05but that doesn't mean we don't want to see it get the remake treatment.
02:08It's an RPG that really is more than the sum of its parts.
02:12Now, on the surface, it's a turn-based RPG with fairly simple mechanics,
02:16random battles, a fantasy narrative and world, some oddball characters and the like.
02:21However, it all comes together magically to deliver an epic tale for the ages.
02:25Plus, I'd honestly be remiss not to bring up the incredible art style this game offers, simply sublime.
02:32Many Dragon Quest games have been getting remakes lately,
02:35so here's hoping Journey of the Cursed King is on the docket.
02:52Skies of Arcadia
03:04Have you ever wanted to play as a ragtag bunch of sky pirates as they soar through the skies,
03:09taking part in a legendary adventure? Of course you have. I mean, who hasn't, right?
03:13Vice, Ika, and crew are at the helm of Skies of Arcadia, as well as the GameCube enhanced port,
03:18Skies of Arcadia Legends. This cold classic turn-based RPG is just brimming with fun.
03:24The story is epic, the characters are lovable, the combat is frenetic and intense,
03:29the exploration is certainly rewarding, and honestly, just the whole affair is an absolute
03:33blast to play. Plus, we really don't have any other games like it today.
03:37To see this game get a remake in the vein of something like Final Fantasy VII, remakes would be
03:42absolutely stellar here. Jade Empire
03:55Of all the Bioware games out there, we don't hear as many people discuss the likes of Jade Empire
04:01when compared to something like Mass Effect. This is a real shame since Jade Empire is a truly epic
04:06tale with some thoughtfully written dialogue, lots and lots of it mind you, meticulous world design,
04:12strategic and in-depth action combat, and plenty of RPG mechanics to keep you working hard to level
04:18up and grow stronger. The game really does still look good today, especially playing on Series X via
04:23backwards compatibility, but getting to see this game as a remake would really help to shine a light
04:28on Bioware's golden days of RPG goodness.
04:41I'm sorry if I woke you up last night. It was another of those dreams. I was standing in this
04:47field
04:48when something happened, but I can't remember what.
04:51Now, yes, the upcoming Fable reboot from Playground Games does look like it will be a lot of fun, but
04:57I
04:57think many of us OG Fable fans are really, really hoping the game leans into the quirky British humor,
05:03cartoony, stylized approach to both characters and world building, and the general lighthearted vibe.
05:09A new Fable game in my book is always a good thing, even if the approach ends up being quite
05:14a bit
05:14different. However, why not also just have a ground up remake of the original Xbox Fable? That game could
05:20be a true stunner if done right, helping to give a whole new group of players the ability to enjoy
05:25this classic fantasy RPG from Lionhead Studios. There's just something so special about that
05:31first game that holds a special place in many gamers' hearts, and us chicken chasers would love to see
05:36it brought back to a modern audience.
05:38Most of Bowerstone is talking about it, but you shouldn't let that kind of thing go to your head.
05:45The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind. If you fancy yourself a melancholic, ambiguous old school RPG
05:52that trusts you to figure things out all on your own, never once holding your hand, then Morrowind is
05:57for you. This game is not like Skyrim, nor is it even really like Oblivion. It's a beast in and
06:03of
06:03itself. Incredibly engaging and fun? Yes, but still highly complex and often confusing if we're being
06:09honest. We would love to see a modernized version of Morrowind, one that keeps the otherworldly charm and
06:14intricate RPG systems, but still manages to infuse some elements that make it more palatable for
06:20those of us, yes very much myself, who could never seem to just figure out where to go or what
06:25to do.
06:26The cherry on top of it all would be how amazing the whole experience would look and sound if done
06:31right. Sort of like the Oblivion remake which people fell in love with.
06:44Dark Cloud 2
06:54While the first Dark Cloud from PS2 could certainly use a new lease on life, we think Dark Cloud 2,
07:00also known as Dark Chronicle, is just the ticket for a full-on remake. Now, to be fair, you can
07:05play
07:05this game easily on your PS5 via PS Plus and the Classics catalog, but it still feels dated in many
07:12areas and could use some modernity. The game's time-bending and history-altering story is intriguing,
07:17and Max and Monica as protagonists are both lovable, endearing, and determined.
07:22I have a proposition to make.
07:25I bet I can guess. You want us to go into the woods and find your four friends, right?
07:31Dark Cloud 2 fuses action RPG mechanics, randomly generate a dungeon, oodles upon oodles of crafting,
07:37and even some town-building aspects, all done with great effort here. It honestly works very well,
07:43and all weaves its way back into the central narrative hook. But again, it does feel quite
07:47dated by today's standards. While the cell-shaded sort of visuals and fantastic music still do hold
07:53up, its overall gameplay could use some updated refinement in order to get a brand new lease on
07:58life. And, I don't know, who knows, maybe a Dark Cloud 3 one day? Here's hoping.
08:02Wow. Huh? There are houses over there. Might be people as well. Let's go check it out.
08:13Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines
08:24It's honestly a real shame that Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2 failed to live up to the
08:29vampire RPG expectations that many fans had. The 2004 game, while certainly rough around the edges,
08:36has become a classic, and for good reason. It's moody, seedy, gothic take on Los Angeles is a treat
08:42to explore. The in-depth RPG mechanics and systems are fun to play around with here. The dialogue
08:48choices and moral ambiguity that comes from playing as a creature of the night in this world is really
08:53intriguing. There you are. I was informed of your presence in the building. Since you're here,
08:58I'll take the liberty of assuming you've destroyed the warehouse. This is correct, yes?
09:04And the combat, while of course a bit wonky, features oodles of ferocity and intense vampiric
09:09powers to enjoy and play around with. I, for one, would really love for this game to be remade so
09:14I
09:14can finally get my hands on it and get a chance to play it. We honestly just need more vampire
09:19games
09:19in general and bloodlines could really use the remake treatment.
09:22Welcome, kindred. And thank you for respecting our traditions by announcing your presence in our
09:28domain. I am Ming Zhao, High Priestess to the people of Chinatown. Can I get you anything? Tea, perhaps?
09:36Eternal Sonata. This is easily one of my very favorite RPGs of all time. It's just so darn good.
09:53Developer TriCrescendo really deserves a standing ovation for this one. You see, this game is set in
09:59pianist and composer Frederic Chopin's dreams on his deathbed. Yes, I know, that sounds quite dark and
10:05ominous. However, his dream world is filled to the brim with vibrancy, fantasy, and endearing musical
10:10celebrations. Heck, I mean, the characters' names in this game are all music-themed. Names like
10:15Allegretto, Beat, Polka, Viola, Falsetto, Salsa, Jazz, and even more. It's great. The cohesive and
10:22eloquent blending of the real-world sections where Chopin is on his deathbed and the fantasy dream
10:27sections are truly all top-notch here, a cut above the rest.
10:41It's a deeply personal, heartfelt, and endearing narrative all wrapped up in a fantastic characterization
10:47for the whole cast. Plus, the game's time-based active battles are a real highlight here. Moving
10:53about the battlefield using the time allotted to you, weaving to and fro between light and dark spots in
10:59order to dole out different attacks and abilities never gets old. And of course, I'd be remiss not
11:04to mention the game's incredible art style and musical score. It's all simply sublime, even to this
11:09very day. Maybe, honestly, just a simple remaster is all that is needed here. Seriously though, go play
11:15this game if you consider yourself an RPG fan or heck, even a fan of classical music. Good stuff.
11:28Shadow Hearts Covenant
11:37The Shadow Hearts franchise is super underrated and overlooked, which is a real bummer since all
11:43of the games are fantastic in their own rights. But for our money, it's Shadow Hearts Covenant that
11:48really stands tall as the best of the bunch. From the stellar Judgment Ring-centric turn-based combat,
11:53to the mysterious and engaging alternate history narrative, to the incredible cast of characters,
11:58to the wide range of locales to explore, Covenant is in a league all of its own.
12:03Led by Yuri and Karen, your ragtag bunch has their work cut out for them if they hope to stop
12:08the
12:08nefarious goings on in the world. Just getting to see this game shine once again with the remake
12:13treatment would be absolutely splendid. While there have been plenty of great turn-based RPGs since this
12:19game, of course, none have really been able to match the way the Judgment Ring system hooks you to the
12:24moment. It's just a truly fantastic game all around, and it deserves more time and attention.
12:39So what did you think of our list? What are some of your favorite RPGs that you would love to
12:44see get
12:44the remake treatment? Be sure to let us know in the comments.
