00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the games set to release
00:07this year that have every chance of becoming huge successes and beloved in the eyes of
00:11gamers everywhere.
00:12We're including games that, at the time of writing, are listed for release in 2025,
00:17and praying they stay there.
00:1910.
00:28Avowed
00:34While the visuals are a tad on the rough side, this is Obsidian we're talking about.
00:39You'll leave these guys to cook up a story, and chances are it'll come out an absolute
00:43treat.
00:44Combining the setting of the Pillars of Eternity franchise with rich customization, FPS fantasy
00:48battles and branching dialogue, it seems to be chasing the tailcoats of Baldur's Gate
00:533, which is never a bad thing.
00:55The more we see of this game, the more we're convinced it's going to leave a hell of
00:58a stamp on the genre upon arrival.
01:039.
01:06Split Fiction
01:07We've been waiting with bated breath for a follow-up to the likes of It Takes Two.
01:16The couch co-op masterclass brought to us by resident madlad Joseph Farris, and given
01:21the preview so far, it looks like he's given us a similar setup, with double the craziness.
01:27Trapped in a simulation as a pair of aspiring authors, players will be constantly switching
01:31between fantasy and sci-fi settings, along with a multitude of mechanics to master.
01:35Given how much their previous work was able to experiment with style and create a seamless
01:39experience, we're hoping this spiritual successor follows in its footsteps.
01:468.
01:48Monster Hunter Wilds
01:54World and Rise did a tremendous job at breathing fresh life into what has since become one
01:58of Capcom's flagship franchises.
02:00Now, Wilds looks set to not only expand the scope of its biomes, but also the immensity
02:05of the beasts themselves.
02:07With the introduction of Wounding, the Hookslinger, as well as mounts for both land and sky, taking
02:12down behemoths is likely going to be as challenging and as satisfying as it gets.
02:17Whether you're summoning NPCs or you've got your hunting party on lock, this game is going
02:21to have legions diving into its lands with no desire to leave.
02:277.
02:29Elden Ring Night Reign
02:35On the one hand, there's a little bit of trepidation rippling about in regards to this latest outing
02:40from the lands between.
02:41After all, it's a multiplayer roguelite and isn't being directed by Miyazaki.
02:46On the other hand, it's a new direction that has every chance of succeeding.
02:49As long as the fundamentals are solid and the flow of combat is up to that same Elden
02:53Ring standard, we're all too eager to dive in again.
02:56Also, the fact that this is somehow combining characters and bosses from Dark Souls 3 can't
03:01be ignored.
03:076.
03:11Metroid Prime 4 Beyond
03:20At long last, the promised time has come.
03:23Fans of Samus' exploits have been waiting for what seems like eons for the legendary bounty
03:27hunter to make her grand return via this most anticipated fourquel, and now it is upon
03:32us.
03:33Alongside ushering in the successor to the Nintendo Switch, Beyond is taking the time-honored
03:37mechanics of morph ball puzzles and fluid FPS combat and giving them the mother of all
03:42graphical updates, as well as a new nemesis for Samus to test her mettle against.
03:46Given the recently released remaster of the first Prime game, we know how well Metroid's
03:51style of gameplay holds up.
03:52Now we just have to wait and see what else Beyond has up its sleeve to make the decades
03:56of waiting feel truly earned.
04:015.
04:05Claire Obscure – Expedition 33
04:14This thing came out of nowhere and has refused to leave our minds since.
04:18Seemingly combining the stylings of a classic turn-based RPG with visuals pulled right out
04:22of a renaissance painting, sprinkled in with a star-studded cast, Expedition 33 has every
04:27chance to become one of the year's frontrunners.
04:29The bleak mission to stop the god-like paintress from destroying humanity one year at a time
04:33has us very much intrigued, as is the fact we now have the likes of Andy Serkis, Ben
04:38Starr and Charlie Freakin' Cox in the same game.
04:41Though if there's one aspect we can't wait to experience for ourselves, it's how
04:45it plays with the trimmings and trappings of its turn-based framework and puts its own
04:49spin on it.
04:554.
04:59Death Stranding 2 – On The Beach
05:09You wanted unfiltered Kojima?
05:10You've got it.
05:12The original Death Stranding was beyond polarizing, and now, it seems one of video game's most
05:16beloved auteurs is doubling down on his particular brand of storytelling.
05:21Because that's just how he rolls.
05:23Looking for grand conversations about how tar is a potential primordial soup for life?
05:27In the mood to see Troy Baker fight against a samurai mecha hijacked by a psychic newborn?
05:32It's all here.
05:33While there's no guarantee that this sequel will be for you, we can confidently say it
05:37will be like no other game you experience this year.
05:413.
05:47Doom – The Dark Ages
05:55How does one go about following up the explosion of testosterone and bullets that was Doom
05:59Eternal?
06:00A game where one man literally shoots his way through Hell on Earth?
06:03Apparently, you set it in the medieval ages and give the Doom Slayer a chainsaw shield
06:08and a fur pelt.
06:09Oh, and his own dragon.
06:10This honestly looks like the most metal game we've seen in years, and that's even comparing
06:14it to the grandiose slaughterhouse that were its prequels.
06:17If they can make every level match the raw intensity of its reveal trailer, and not get
06:21too bogged down in any unnecessary lore, then this has every potential to become the franchise's
06:29pinnacle.
06:302.
06:32Grand Theft Auto VI
06:37Granted, as history can attest to, there's every chance that we won't be seeing this
06:41thing until the next century.
06:43But until said otherwise, 2025 looks set to be the year of GTA VI's colossally overdue
06:48arrival.
06:49A game that promises to consume the medium like few could ever hope to.
06:53A sprawling cityscape filled with activity, side missions, and satire.
06:57A story of thievery a la a pair of Bonnie and Clyde-esque protagonists, and that's
07:01just scratching the surface.
07:03GTA games are all about go big or go home, and few have the kind of hype as this sixth
07:08mainline entry.
07:09If they truly can find a way to raise the bar and outdo GTA V on a technical and narrative
07:13level, then we can confidently say without hyperbole that this game won't just be
07:18one that defines the year, but potentially the next several.

07:42Number 1.
07:43Ghost of Yotai
07:48Not enough amazing things can be said about Ghost of Tsushima.
07:51The combat, whether it be striking from the shadows or challenging every Mongolian invader
07:55to an epic showdown, both played as smooth as butter.
07:58The locations?
07:59Lush.
08:00The story?
08:01The performances?
08:02Phenomenal.
08:03And now, it's back.
08:04Jin's story may have concluded, but we have everlasting faith in Sucker Punch's
08:07capacity as developers to rope us into a new tale of blood, revenge, and swordplay.
08:12Whatever their plans for Atsu and her warpath across Hokkaido, it can't get here soon
08:16enough.
08:25Which of these games do you think will go down as the year's best?
