00:01This is the joyful sound of preserving culture here in Nigeria's largest city, Lagos.
00:07Leading the drum circle, artist Adebayo Adeyeji uses this twice-monthly workshop to teach children how to play traditional drums.
00:16Here in this mega city, some of these kids haven't even seen these instruments before.
00:20They've not played it before, and this is an opportunity to introduce them for it.
00:25So we're using it to at least do a kind of evangelism, evangelism of art.
00:32Preserving the heritage of the drum used for rituals and communicating with deities, something one mom understands well.
00:39Culture is always, it's fluid, it's always transforming.
00:42And we have to, you know, have ways where we can document, we can also archive and also incorporate our
00:49children in what we do.
00:50And for the kids, a lot of fun.
00:53I'm glad that I was able to experience and being able to, like, play those kind of drums.
00:58And I remember who bought me one of those drums when I was younger.
