00:22said the suspects, four men and one woman aged between 23 and 37, are believed to be
00:28part of a long-running drug trafficking syndicate.
00:31In the first raid on March 24, police intercepted two cars along the main road in Wangkerlian
00:37and arrested the married couple and another male suspect.
00:41A search of one vehicle uncovered 20 sacks containing 500 packets of suspected methamphetamine.
00:49Officers were forced to fire several shots after one driver acted aggressively, posing
00:55a threat to the raiding team.
00:56The arrests led to the capture of two more male suspects in follow-up raids on March 27
01:02and 28 in the same area.
01:05Preliminary urine tests found all four male suspects positive for methamphetamine, while
01:10checks showed all five have prior drug-related offences.
01:14They have been remanded for five to seven days beginning March 25 and March 29.
01:19The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the
01:27Dangerous Drugs Forfeiture of Property Act 1988.
01:31Police also seized assets worth 566,200 ringgit, including six vehicles and eight motorcycles.
01:41Hussein said the syndicate is among those under police watch and is believed to smuggle drugs
01:46across the border via forested routes using human couriers.
01:51The drugs are brought to transit points near the main road in Wangkelian, before being distributed
01:56to the Klang Valley and southern regions.
01:59He added that the seized drugs could have reached up to 2.55 million users.
02:05The syndicate's leader, a local man in his 40s, is believed to have fled to Thailand,
02:10and police are seeking assistance from Thai authorities to track him down.
