00:11:42...
00:11:42Est-ce que c'est safe ?
00:11:48Il n'y a pas de condition de harm, et il semble qu'il est plus dog que le wolf,
00:11:52mais c'est safe.
00:12:01Merci, Doc.
00:12:01All right.
00:12:11OK, Rye.
00:12:13Let's let him sleep, and we'll see how he is in the morning.
00:12:17Can we put a heater out here for him?
00:12:20Sure.
00:12:22Thanks, Grandpa.
00:12:28This is Call of the Wild by Jack London.
00:12:31One of my favorite books when I was just a little bit older than you.
00:12:35But kids these days, well...
00:12:38This isn't about bunny rabbits or fairies or something, is it?
00:12:42It's about a dog.
00:12:46Buck did not read the newspapers, or he would have known that trouble was brewing.
00:12:52Who's Buck?
00:12:53Buck is a dog.
00:12:58The writing gets kind of fancy. Do you mind if I paraphrase now and again?
00:13:02Paraphrase?
00:13:03Mm-hmm.
00:13:04Put it into my own words.
00:13:05OK.
00:13:06All right.
00:13:08You see, it was 1897, and gold was discovered in the Yukon.
00:13:14That's in Canada.
00:13:15Right.
00:13:16Now, down in sunny California, there was a dog named Buck who lived on a huge estate.
00:13:24Buck was four years old, part St. Bernard and part Scots Shepherd.
00:13:29He was large and very smart, and he lived like a king.
00:13:36On the property worked a gardener who had a dark heart.
00:13:40When he learned that there was a good market for strong dogs, he took Buck to meet a strange man
00:13:46down the road one night.
00:13:48Money changed hands, and the gardener handed the lease to the other man.
00:13:54Buck could not know that when this second man led him away, he would never see his home again.
00:14:05How about we continue this tomorrow night?
00:14:08I'm not sleepy yet. Keep reading.
00:14:23Rye!
00:14:29Buttercup!
00:14:34Mud- Mud- Buttercup!
00:16:06C'est ça, c'est ça, c'est ça.
00:16:36C'est ça, c'est bon.
00:16:38C'est ça, c'est, c'est pour ça.
00:16:38That old sweater you have to wear all the time.
00:16:40Your wife asked me to sew your legs on the elbow for you.
00:16:44Well, you know, I kind of forgot about it.
00:16:49I'm sorry.
00:17:02She used to hate this old sweater.
00:17:30God bless you, Mr. Hale.
00:17:42Sous-titrage Société Radio-Canada
00:17:43Come on, Buck. Come on. It's really cozy.
00:17:53Buck.
00:17:54Can I sleep out here with Buck tonight?
00:17:56What do you suppose the chances are I'm gonna let you sleep in this cold garage with a wolf?
00:18:02When you put it like that, I guess not very good.
00:18:05Good guess. For that, you need to get a prize.
00:18:08What?
00:18:09All the toothpaste you can fit on your brush.
00:18:13Come on.
00:18:14Good night, Buck.
00:18:27Should I keep reading?
00:18:28Yes.
00:18:29Try and stay awake so I can get to the good part, will you?
00:18:34Buck was put into the baggage car of a great express train.
00:18:39This train traveled all the way to the sea, where Buck was put aboard a cargo ship.
00:18:46For seven days, this ship traveled northward.
00:18:49And for seven days, Buck had very little to eat.
00:18:53What little food was brought to him, was brought by a man in a red sweater.
00:18:58Buck blamed the man for everything that happened to him.
00:19:02When he had his chance, Buck tried to get away.
00:19:06But the man had a club.
00:19:09Buck had never been struck by a club in his life.
00:19:12The man beat him and beat him until Buck could fight no more.
00:19:17He learned that a man with a club made the law.
00:19:22The man in the red sweater said,
00:19:24Obey, dog, and you'll be treated fine.
00:19:27Be a bad dog, and I'll beat the tar out of you.
00:19:30Do you understand? Buck understood, but he was not happy about it.
00:19:38Does he get away?
00:19:40We'll have to see.
00:19:42Seems Buck has entered a world where he doesn't exactly fit.
00:19:46And that could mean trouble.
00:19:49I'm glad our Buck ended up where he belongs.
00:19:54Good night, buttercup. Sweet dreams.
00:20:27Come on, Buck.
00:20:27Buck, you want to be a pet, don't you?
00:20:29Pets have it made.
00:20:31It's a nice collar.
00:20:32Look, leather.
00:20:36Come on, Buck.
00:20:37Don't you want to look cool?
00:20:48Buck, it's so pretty.
00:20:52Wonders never cease.
00:20:55Come on, boy.
00:20:57Hey, kid.
00:20:58Shh.
00:20:58You almost have him.
00:20:59Is that a wolf?
00:21:01It's a dog wolf.
00:21:02He means Buck.
00:21:03He looks strong.
00:21:05Smart, too.
00:21:09Hey.
00:21:11Morning, Jack.
00:21:12Morning.
00:21:13Didn't get much sleep last night?
00:21:15Ah.
00:21:17I don't sleep much at all these days.
00:21:22He likes me.
00:21:23I'm going to talk Mom and Dad into letting me keep them.
00:21:28Rye.
00:21:28Wait till Brittany and Chloe see.
00:21:30Chloe's family has an Afghan, and Brittany's has a Sharpay.
00:21:33But nobody, and I mean nobody, in Beacon Hill has a pet wolf.
00:22:03Come on, Ryan.
00:22:04Come on, Ryan.
00:22:07They're going to love this place.
00:22:11Hey, Mr. Hale.
00:22:12How are you doing today?
00:22:13Good.
00:22:14How are you doing?
00:22:15Not too bad.
00:22:16I have something to take care of at the bank of Buttercup.
00:22:20Tracy, let this little girl have whatever she wants.
00:22:24As long as she doesn't overdo it.
00:22:26Okay.
00:22:27Grandpa?
00:22:28Can you please not call me Buttercup around other people?
00:22:31It's embarrassing.
00:22:32Sorry.
00:22:33How about a strawberry sundae?
00:22:40Hey, Jack.
00:22:41Oh, hi.
00:22:45Hi, Tracy.
00:22:46Hi.
00:22:47I didn't know you were working today.
00:22:50I came in for a drink.
00:22:54I mean, soda.
00:22:55I think we can manage that.
00:22:58You race sled dogs?
00:22:59Well, I try to.
00:23:00I'm kind of still learning.
00:23:02I can't believe people make dogs race in the snow.
00:23:04Are you kidding?
00:23:06They love it.
00:23:07They're bred for it.
00:23:09Once you have them hooked in, it's hard to keep them from running.
00:23:12How come you didn't win?
00:23:14My lead dog isn't very good.
00:23:16It takes a very special dog to be a good lead.
00:23:22I had the most special dog in the whole town.
00:23:24Because he's part wolf.
00:23:29Oz, are you still trying to smoke those things?
00:23:33You can practice your bad habit outside.
00:23:35There's no smoking in here.
00:23:42Hey, what's so funny, butt face?
00:23:45Oh, I see you got yourself a new girlfriend.
00:23:49Sure she's not too mature for you?
00:23:50I'm mature enough to know that smoking is for losers.
00:23:56How would you like to wear that ice cream?
00:23:58On your head.
00:23:59Hey, hey.
00:24:00Come on.
00:24:03Oz, you're finished now.
00:24:07Okay.
00:24:15So this wolf dog you found, maybe he'd make a good lead sled dog.
00:24:19Maybe, but I'm taking him home to Boston.
00:24:22I wish he wandered into my garage.
00:24:24Strong as any dog I've ever seen.
00:24:26And smart enough to be a lead dog.
00:24:27I can tell.
00:24:39Oh, he's learning.
00:24:40Hey, just for fun.
00:24:43Why don't we go get the sled harness, see how he takes to it.
00:24:46What?
00:24:48Freddy's not smart enough?
00:24:50Let's go get the harness.
00:24:51You'll see.
00:24:55Whoa, whoa, whoa.
00:24:55Hold on now.
00:24:56Where'd you get that animal, girl?
00:24:59He was in our garage.
00:25:01Uh-huh.
00:25:01Yeah.
00:25:02Strong pies.
00:25:03The size of him.
00:25:04Shh.
00:25:07So you say you found him?
00:25:10Well, he looks wild to me.
00:25:14Well, he's not.
00:25:15Here's the thing.
00:25:16We found that animal not five days ago.
00:25:19In the wild, he was stalking a moose up Horseman's Ridge.
00:25:23And we got him.
00:25:24Put a rope on him, but he'd give us a slip.
00:25:28That's right.
00:25:29Oz here.
00:25:30He'll tell you.
00:25:32Right.
00:25:34That's right.
00:25:34We found that animal.
00:25:36He's ours.
00:25:36No, he's not.
00:25:38Something I can help you with, Heat?
00:25:40Well, we were just telling little Missy here, thanks.
00:25:44Finding our wolf dog.
00:25:45What are you talking about?
00:25:47We found that dog ourselves.
00:25:49Put a rope on it, ready to break.
00:25:50He'd give us a slip.
00:25:52Any proof of that?
00:25:54Yeah.
00:25:56That's right.
00:25:58That's not good enough, Heat.
00:26:01Why don't I ask what you're doing here?
00:26:06I'm not sure we just come down the road, buy some eggs.
00:26:09Oh, that's two doors down.
00:26:13So it is.
00:26:18We'll be saying good day to you, then, Heat.
00:26:32You're not going to let them take it back, are you?
00:26:34No, no, no, no, no.
00:26:35Don't worry.
00:26:39Don't worry.
00:26:56Grandpa, I want to find out what happens to Buck.
00:27:00Buck was put on a ship and sailed for seven long days.
00:27:05At the end of his journey, he found himself in the strange new land of Alaska.
00:27:13It was a land of new experiences.
00:27:17And the newest for him was the experience of snow.
00:27:21It wasn't like anything he'd seen before, but there was a new surprise to come.
00:27:28Buck was strapped into a harness, such as he'd seen put on horses at home.
00:27:44Buck learned to run as a team and slowly came to accept his new station in life.
00:27:50At night, since the men wouldn't let him sleep in the warm tent,
00:27:55he had to learn from the other dogs how a Yukon dog prepares its own cozy bed.
00:28:26and he had to start the pandemic.
00:28:28Thank you.
00:53:02Yeah
01:01:19jusqu'à le moose tire, et Buck brought him down.
01:01:24Il a tué un moose?
01:01:25Oui.
01:01:43Buck found that his beloved master was dead.
01:01:54I don't like this book anymore.
01:01:56I don't want to read any more of it.
01:01:57You won't understand the story if you don't hear the rest.
01:02:00That's okay.
01:02:01I want to go to sleep.
01:02:35Getting ready for the big race?
01:02:37Called it off.
01:02:39Why?
01:02:41Probably wouldn't win anyone.
01:02:44How do you know unless you try?
01:02:48I've been telling everybody at school how hard you've been working for this.
01:02:52I want to be able to say I knew you before you were a champion.
01:02:56You've been talking about me?
01:02:59Hey, Jack, good luck with that race this weekend.
01:03:01We're rooting for you.
01:03:03Yeah.
01:03:03Yeah.
01:03:04Yeah.
01:03:07I gotta get back to work.
01:04:06This is the story.
01:04:46Si vous me demandez,
01:04:47grandma est avec God maintenant,
01:04:49watching grandpa comme un spécial angel,
01:04:52même si il ne voit pas.
01:04:54Mais je pense que c'est vrai.
01:04:56The end.

01:06:33C'est vrai.
01:06:33C'est le spirit.
01:06:36Alors, qu'est-ce que vous attendez ?
01:06:37Il va falloir besoin de l'aide.
01:06:39Allez !

01:06:41Oui !
01:06:41Merci, papa !
01:06:43C'est bon, Jack !

01:07:20C'est bon !
01:07:28Il va falloir.
01:07:29Bien, je ne vais pas avoir lorsqu'on était morte.
01:07:30Francis, tu peux pas faire ?

01:08:31It's time to start. Sleds are on their marks. Let's make this a nice friendly race. Let's have some fun!
01:08:46You know exactly what to do. I put them dog treats in both your coat pockets. If old Jack gets
01:08:52too close, you just drop them on the trail.
01:08:54All right. These dogs will give up any idea of racing. Jack, are you sure you want me to come?
01:09:00It's extra weight for the dogs to pull.
01:09:02I know. But we're a team.
01:09:05All right. Wear this for good luck. Besides, it'll keep you warm.
01:09:13How do I look?
01:09:14I look like a winner.
01:09:17You don't win this race, you don't bother coming home. You hear me?
01:09:21Good luck, kids.
01:09:23Oz, listen. I iced his snow hook, so you're going to get a head start.
