00:01And the Italian Grand Prix is underway! Lando Norris is looking at his teammate and he's got
00:06the launch that he needs, but George Russell is still a contender, second and third at battling,
00:11Piastri blocks out Russell, Lando Norris has got to the front, Russell goes onto the grass and over
00:16the road, he momentarily takes the lead but he'll have to feather it back, McLaren finally get the
00:21start they needed from Lando Norris, it's Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, Russell loses out as a
00:27result of going over the road at turn number one, it's Charles Leclerc, then Carlos Sainz as the
00:32McLarens are side by side and Oscar Piastri's going all the way around the outside to take the lead
00:37with a bold and brilliant move, Lando still can't keep the lead on lap number one and he's lost second
00:43place to Charles Leclerc. I can't believe what I've just seen, absolutely brilliant stuff from Oscar
00:50Piastri who knows that if he's running anywhere near his teammate that McLaren have to start thinking
00:56big picture, he now changes that completely by leading this Grand Prix. That could be move of the
01:01season, that was extraordinary from Piastri on his teammate round the outside, low downforce, low grip
01:06and he's into the race lead. Big gravel there between the two house cars as they scrabble all
01:11over the road and that's Hulkenberg losing positions and dropping down the order, Magnussen gets by,
01:16Gasly gets by. This gets very very tight for George Russell then, he gets a good launch but the McLarens
01:24lock out that
01:24inside path. Piastri then, oh he squeezes wide and that is, that is super tight there for Russell.
01:32Here's the sensational move, late on the brakes from Piastri, so close but fair between the two
01:37McLarens and it's just a beautiful move from Piastri, no sign of team orders quite clearly for
01:44McLaren and it costs Norris another position, the big leeward slide, through goes Leclerc.
01:49This is Hulkenberg, contact with Daniel Ricciardo, then he's going to scrape across the gravel, through goes Kevin Magnussen and
01:56that put the dust on the racing line.
01:58It's a five second time penalty for Daniel Ricciardo for forcing another car off the track.
02:04This is going to be Hulkenberg trying a late send and making contact as a result, that is pure frustration.
02:11We go on board with the German driver, trying to scrub off the speed and hitting Yuki Tsunoda.
02:16Never on, from there.
02:19Here's the move for Sergio Perez, he got a horrible amount of dirty air coming through the Parabolica, sent him
02:25wide through that corner.
02:27But even with that, he's able to move ahead into the braking zone and take seventh place and George Russell
02:32has gone from chasing third position,
02:35trying to turn it into second position, going long at the first corner of the racetrack and he's tumbled down
02:40to eighth position.
02:41Kevin Magnussen fights his way by, he's got past Daniel Ricciardo at the Retafilo Chicane, the first one on the
02:48racetrack.
02:50Lando suggests we do box to overtake on Leclerc, box to overtake.
02:53So the call comes out, oh, he's hit the marker coming into the pits and I think he got away
02:58with it, but was he over the pit lane speed limit?
03:01Well, we'll find out pretty soon, but that's a lack of concentration or a drop of concentration for Lando, it
03:06was a late call from the team.
03:08Let's see if it works out.
03:10In comes Charles Leclerc, trying to cover off that pit stop for McLaren, also in Lewis Hamilton.
03:16And he's powering through, he's getting ahead, there he is, told you he was ahead, we caught it at the
03:21end.
03:22And Lando Norris leaps up to what will become a net second place in the race.
03:28This is Kevin Magnussen trying to pull off another overtake, and this time wasn't as special as the move at
03:34the first chicane.
03:35Contact with Pierre Gasly.
03:36Yep, on that dusty inside line, locks up, and there's always going to be contact if Gasly didn't use the
03:42escape roads.
03:45Norris starting to struggle, this is when Red Bull's starting to have graining around lap 15 in the stint.
03:50This is George Russell up against Sergio Perez.
03:53Russell trying to go around the outside, and again, he's having to scamper over the road at the first chicane.
03:59He knows the rules of engagement, though, and he will have to give Perez the place back.
04:03He does so.
04:04Is he going to try and do it in a way that gives him an opportunity to attack once again?
04:08Race control can sometimes be a bit sniffy about that.
04:11They don't feel you gave back the advantage, and Russell stays behind.
04:14He's on the charge, though, at the moment, trying to take Perez.
04:18This is Lando Norris.
04:19Now we're heading to the second chicane, in fact.
04:21On board with the driver who was second, and having to go to the correct side of the bollards and
04:26rejoin.
04:27So it is a two-stopper.
04:29Unlike previous years, he will get the rubber first.
04:32And Lando Norris being held for a moment there.
04:353.3 seconds.
04:38Magnussen back in the walls, this time with Alex Albin.
04:40Consequential move that for Kevin Magnussen, up four places from where he started the Grand Prix.
04:45He hasn't scored a point here in a decade at Monza, and he gets by Alex Albin, who had fresher
04:52tyres on the car.
04:55On the canvas.
04:56Oh my word, George Russell trying to scrub off the speed from 200 miles per hour, was eventually given the
05:03space by Sergio Perez, and then deliberately ran it deep into the first turn to make a point, I believe.
05:09He's going to go wheel to wheel with Sergio Perez once again, battling over eighth position.
05:14Outside line for Perez.
05:15Can Russell keep a wheel in there?
05:17And it's good speed for that Mercedes.
05:19Through goes George Russell, and he's up to eighth.
05:22We cut to Oscar Piastri in the pits.
05:25McLaren have dealt with the car, and have put on a new set of hard tyres.
05:29Charles Leclerc takes the lead of the Grand Prix.
05:33I don't think this is working out well at all for McLaren.
05:36Norris is barely quicker than Leclerc and Sainz right now, tucked in behind Verstappen.
05:41It's not working for them, and that's a huge risk, pitting Piastri under no pressure in the race lead.
05:46It's a huge risk, because they've just handed Ferrari right now a 1-2, and they can just see if
05:51they can make these hard tyres go to the end.
05:53Oscar's got to unleash some serious pace to go and catch them.
05:57Norris going for it, going past, and that is a fairly efficient move.
06:01I don't think Verstappen can come back into turn number one.
06:04By the time that we get to the second chicane, there might be an opportunity.
06:08McLaren need to put the hammer down now, as Norris gets ahead of his rival for the championship.
06:15The Ferrari clearly doesn't have the grip.
06:17We don't see many passes for positioning to Ascari.
06:20It might be about to change.
06:22Oscar Piastri fights his way through to second place.
06:26He's cleared one Ferrari.
06:27The next one is denying him the top step for the second time in his career.
06:34Lando Norris got super close to Carlos Sainz.
06:37Not in the right part of the racetrack.
06:38It is going to be third position for Lando Norris, who started this race on pole.
06:43He held the lead into turn number one, but his teammate got by into the second chicane.
06:48And since then, Piastri has been the lead McLaren.
06:52He's bringing it right now.
06:53He's only two-tenths off his best lap of the race, Charles Leclerc.
06:57There's not a huge sign of degradation for him.
06:59And Piastri in the last lap was only half a second quicker.
07:02And he is right now doing everything right for a victory for Ferrari at Monza.
07:07These are magical moments at Monza.
07:11This did not seem possible when Charles Leclerc started fourth on the grid.
07:17But it will be a season of home victories for Charles Leclerc.
07:22The man from Monaco is the man for Monza.
07:26The Tafosi are roaring him home.
07:29And for the second time in his career, Charles Leclerc is the winner of the Italian Grand Prix for Ferrari.
07:37He's won the race by 2.6 seconds for his seventh career victory.
07:44And it's won to savor.
07:47What a drive.
07:49What a driver.
07:50And Ferrari, this was a team a couple of years ago, couldn't get a strategy right all season.
07:54They were throwing races away and now they are team reformed.
07:59And what a moment for Charles Leclerc.
