00:01This is Max Verstappen leaving the garage, and who is going to appear in his path?
00:07Oh my word, Oscar Piastri!
00:11They've got this crash.
00:12I saw that, Max.
00:15That was close. Close, close, close.
00:19Perez is 19th and just trying to make the second stage of qualifying.
00:24Yeah, he had a whole bunch of traffic.
00:26He was first out, and there was a delay on the next group coming, so he had a bunch of
00:31traffic.
00:31Oh, Colin Pinto fighting the car!
00:33He was trying to punch his way into Q2, but he's through the gravel to blow that opportunity.
00:40Hülkenberg's finding a clean lap, improving sector one and two.
00:43Oh, something's gone.
00:44No way, don't drive it into the gravel like that, surely.
00:48It looked like he'd been off earlier in the lap, but that's very bizarre the way he took it to
00:53the gravel.
00:54Yeah, maybe an issue there of the puncher. Maybe something's gone awry.
00:58Yellow flag is out for everyone, trying to improve.
01:01Joe improves his lap time, not his position.
01:04White flag is waving for a slow recovering car.
01:06We've got Ricciardo, Colopinto, Tsunoda, Bottas, and Joe in that drop zone at the moment.
01:12Stroll was on the brink, but he's unable to find a lap time.
01:16Can anyone find an improvement, including a driver who's won a round here in the past?
01:20The winner in 2021, Daniel Ricciardo desperately looking for a time that can take him out of the drop zone.
01:28Like Yuki Tsunoda has just managed, can he put him straight back in?
01:32Ricciardo can! Ricciardo gets to 15th position.
01:36Tsunoda into the drop zone.
01:38Five cars out, Tsunoda, Stroll, Colopinto, and the two Saubers with Bottas ahead of Joe.
01:46Albon's going quickly through half a lap.
01:48Both Alpins are still pushing. Magnussen is out in 13th.
01:52And Alonso's trying to improve as well. So there's still plenty trying to just shuffle out Hülkenberg and Albon.
01:57Yeah, Albon definitely right on the ragged edge through Iscari.
02:01And carried brilliant speed through the middle part.
02:04But that made it more difficult for him to position the car for a clean exit.
02:07Let's see if it's cost him any time.
02:08Albon trying to get into Q3 once again.
02:11Up to ninth he goes ahead of Hülkenberg.
02:14What can Alonso do trying to reach Q3 for the fifth session in a row?
02:19Can he get there? Or does that run come to an end? It comes to an end in 11th place.
02:25Ocon is on for a personal best, but can it contend with the time set by Hülkenberg?
02:31No! Improves his lap time, but not his position.
02:35And the efforts have been thrown at this Monza circuit once again.
02:40Alonso in 11th, out along with Ricciardo, Magnussen, Gasly, and Ocon.
02:52We saw that one as well.
02:53Yeah, that wasn't quite as bad, I think, as the McLaren issue earlier.
02:58Round the final corner for Oscar Piastri.
03:01So aggressive, low fuel, high speed, Piastri to the line.
03:05Fastest as you would expect for McLaren, the form team in Formula One.
03:09But Lando Norris is trying to take that place away.
03:12Lando Norris up through the gears, over the line.
03:15Gets ahead of his teammate by three hundredths of a second.
03:19So many more contenders to come though, including Carlos Sainz.
03:23He's only third. What about Max Verstappen in the Red Bull?
03:26The World Championship leader is fifth.
03:29That lap has not gone to plan.
03:31Charles Leclerc always a master when it counts in qualifying,
03:34but he's behind his teammate at the moment.
03:37We've ticked off the McLarens, the Ferraris, and the Red Bulls.
03:40It's now over to the Mercedes pair of Russell and Hamilton.
03:45And can George Russell find his way in a super tight battle between the two McLarens?
03:51Can he find any improvement to get near it?
03:53Third, he doesn't quite get on McLaren pace.
03:57But what about Hamilton?
03:58He is behind George Russell.
04:01Norris and his teammate Piastri.
04:03Russell and his teammate Hamilton.
04:05Sainz and his teammate Leclerc.
04:07Perez, who has now qualified Max Verstappen all season long, is the lead Red Bull.
04:13Here's the oversteer that Max had at Parabolica,
04:17and that is what cost him a significant amount of time,
04:19all the way up to the line then.
04:22And he lost six tenths total in the final sector.
04:25It's not improving at this stage.
04:27He is close, though, to the first sector time of Lando Norris.
04:32Dropping back in the middle part of the lap.
04:34Verstappen not on for a personal best.
04:36He needs the Parabolica to go a lot better.
04:39They're going to pick their way past the Mercedes.
04:42That's Perez, who's gone off.
04:44He left a cloud of gravel in the way of Verstappen.
04:47He peels out of the way of his teammate.
04:48Where does this lap put Max Verstappen?
04:51It is going to be an improvement from eighth place,
04:53but everyone else is going to have the right of reply.
04:56Verstappen across the line only to seventh.
04:59A huge moment in the context of the World Championship.
05:02And now it's the battle for pole position between the McLarens,
05:05the Ferraris and the Mercedes.
05:07Lando Norris improving.
05:09Middle sector of the lap as he goes through Ascari.
05:12He's the best so far.
05:13The Ferraris are flying in the first part of the lap as well though.
05:17McLaren now have to execute pole position for Norris to make the most of this situation.
05:22The Mercedes will also be able to come back as well.
05:26But it's Lando Norris trying to take back-to-back pole positions in Formula One for the first time in
05:31his career.
05:31Can he get there and extend the advantage?
05:34He can.
05:35It's a 1-19-3 to beat.
05:37Carlos Sainz, he's in the mix as well.
05:40But first of all, Oscar Piastri looking for a maiden pole.
05:43He's not going to get there.
05:45Over to Ferrari.
05:46And Carlos Sainz who gets to third.
05:49Charles Leclerc trying to do what he's done two times before.
05:53He's the lead Ferrari on the grid.
05:55But it's the second row.
05:57And now only the Mercedes can deny McLaren a front row lockout.
06:02I don't think they're doing enough.
06:04It doesn't look.
06:05We've got Hamilton and Russell trading who was better in the first and second sector.
06:12But this is going to have to be mighty if it's going to change anything.
06:14George Russell trying to be the lead Mercedes on the grid.
06:17Can he get on terms with the Ferraris?
06:19He can.
06:20Can Hamilton join him on the second row or go better?
06:23No.
06:23Only sixth for Lewis Hamilton.
06:26McLaren have a front row lockout in Monza for the first time since 2012.
06:32And Lando Norris has two pole positions in seven days.
06:37His rival for the championship is in seventh in Formula One 2024.
06:43It's game on.
06:44Lando Norris on pole for the Italian Grand Prix.
06:49This is huge.
06:50This could be one of the big turning points in the season.
06:54I know Zandvoort was emphatic.
06:56But the gap on a circuit that is so different to Zandvoort has been continued.
07:00McLaren on the front.
07:01And now Verstappen with a scruffy qualifying is only seventh on a circuit that is not that easy to pass
07:08on.
07:09Would you leave as a second-stage to their mathemato?
07:10He's been a activist and his Tabii experience.
07:10He's!
07:10That's our favourite Chris Berkman.
