00:00Fortune favours the brave.
00:02Cheers!
00:02On today's show...
00:04In homage to you!
00:06Amazing!
00:07Love the outfit.
00:09Spicy sauces.
00:12It was absolutely awful.
00:15Very nice.
00:16Title tiffs.
00:17My friends call me the duchess.
00:19Darling, there can't be two duchesses.
00:21Mikaela looks and plays the part of a duchess.
00:24Martina, maybe not so much.
00:27And disastrous desserts.
00:30Now, you're...
00:33Please don't make me eat any more of that.
00:36As five gastronomy wannabes compete for a plosh of cash.
00:40This is going to be mouthwateringly delectable.
00:48It's day two in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire,
00:51home to Trinity College,
00:52where Lord Byron, annoyed that his dog wasn't allowed on campus,
00:56brought a bear along instead.
00:58I don't know, students, eh?
01:00Sorry, students.
01:03And hoping he doesn't leave his guests feeling grizzly
01:06is self-styled culinary explorer Dave.
01:10Tonight is going to be an amazing, immersive world experience.
01:14We're going to be exploring different flavours from around the world,
01:18so it's going to be a winning night.
01:20Cheers!
01:21Well, you're going to have to top teaching assistant Michelle's
01:25amalgamation of Portuguese-American awesomeness.
01:28Please enjoy.
01:29Last night was a lot of fun.
01:31It's very tasty.
01:33It's really good.
01:34And I enjoyed all my guests, too.
01:37Like, I think, um, yeah, I think we have a good group here.
01:40With a slightly different slant on his fellow diners
01:43is tech entrepreneur Shane.
01:46Hello!
01:47Hi!
01:48Oh, gosh, maybe I'd describe him as a gang of misfits.
01:53That's going to put hairs on your chest.
01:55I don't feel we'd ever really hang out naturally in the real world.
01:59That's a party and a drink.
02:00But it was good fun, regardless.
02:03While Shane focuses on his curious company,
02:06sales director Martina is more concerned
02:08with being the week's standout chef.
02:10I'm not a chocolate fan, really,
02:12but the doughnut was really nice as well.
02:13Last night made me feel like I'm a chicken dinner winner.
02:17I felt very comfortable and very confident when I left.
02:20And comfort was on the agenda
02:22when Dave offered some outfit advice.
02:24I would happily sit in a tracksuit every day.
02:28Really?
02:28Every day, I would happily just sit.
02:31What colour is a tracksuit?
02:31How old are you?
02:33Girl.
02:34But the loungewear lover didn't steal the spotlight.
02:38That lit up Lady of Leisure, Michaela.
02:41Michelle was really good fun.
02:43She was very gregacious.
02:46It's like being at a ten-year-old birthday party.
02:48I love it.
02:48If I could think of a couple of words to describe last night,
02:51it would be fun, energetic.
02:54And interesting.
02:55Think I preferred gregacious.
02:57And Michelle's star-spangled score of 29
03:00is the one to top so far.
03:03So, what's everyone anticipating tonight?
03:05I do very much look forward to finding out more about Dave.
03:09I think so far, all I know is he's obsessed with tracksuits.
03:13I didn't get to chat with Dave as much as I would like,
03:16so I can't wait to see what he brings to the table.
03:20What are you bringing, Dave?
03:22Tonight is a brave menu.
03:24Oh.
03:25But fortune favours the brave.
03:27Tonight is all about pushing the boat out,
03:29setting new boundaries,
03:30a global hybrid fusion of flavour and awesomeness.
03:36I don't know whether to be excited or terrified.
03:38The first fusion of flavours is salmon-garlic bread.
03:42Ooh.
03:44Garlic bread either has cheese on or butter.
03:46It doesn't have salmon.
03:48No.
03:49Using smoked salmon alongside garlic bread
03:51is not something that I've ever seen or heard,
03:53but I'm so excited about bringing this complete twist to a starter.
03:58I hope Dave is making his own bread,
03:59because that will be very nice.
04:01Bread's quite an interesting thing, actually.
04:02It looks a little bit complicated,
04:04but I'm sure it's going to be doable.
04:06So I've got to, first of all,
04:08get some different stuff into my bowl.
04:11Specifically, flour followed by yeast.
04:13It's meant to have one and a half tablespoons in it.
04:15Add a little bit more for good measure.
04:17That's a really good cooking tip.
04:18What's the worst that's going to happen?
04:19It's just going to get bigger.
04:21I think you'll find it might be the opposite.
04:23In goes wet stuff.
04:25Hmm.
04:26Well, I do like salmon,
04:27and who doesn't like garlic bread?
04:29So I'm going to enjoy that.
04:30Don't count your chickens.
04:32Bread is the staple food
04:34of the entirety of Western civilisation.
04:36So I'm excited to be kind of bringing
04:38that first bit of global history
04:40to the palate tonight.
04:42Let's just hope it rises to the occasion.
04:44I'd say salmon isn't really a fish
04:46you pair with garlicky flavours very often,
04:49but it could be interesting.
04:53This is prime smoked salmon.
04:54In fact, it even says it right here on the bracket.
04:57He'll open his prime smoked salmon later
05:00after adding garlic butter to his bread.
05:03On to dessert.
05:04White chocolate cheesecake cocktail.
05:08Hmm.
05:09Hmm.
05:10Stuff could happen here.
05:12Especially with Dave.
05:14I'll only have a cheesecake
05:15if I know the cheesecake is going to be incredible.
05:18It's going to be topped with a shot of Prosecco.
05:21It's just going to be mouthwateringly delectable.
05:23Topped with a shot of Prosecco.
05:25That does sound incredible.
05:27Dave's mouthwateringly delectable mix
05:30starts with dollops of cream cheese,
05:32mascarpone and yoghurt
05:33in an unsuitably small bowl.
05:36I'm going to need a bigger bowl.
05:39You are.
05:40In goes melted chocolate.
05:43Ooh.
05:45Wouldn't ever really order a cheesecake
05:47in a restaurant
05:49and in a cocktail,
05:50I'd say that probably means
05:52he's putting it in a fancy glass.
05:54I wanted to create a dessert
05:55that people could both enjoy here
05:57but also take home a memento as well.
05:59So I decided to give every single person
06:01that's coming along tonight a mug.
06:04It's basically a gift that keeps on giving.
06:07I've never had a cocktail in a mug before.
06:09This is literally the definition of handmade.
06:13And a few other things.
06:14The bashed biscuits meet melted butter.
06:18I think I'm ready to start building.
06:21Could be like a tier of like maybe alcohol
06:24and then the cheesecake
06:25and then white chocolate
06:27and maybe a dark chocolate.
06:28You've got no idea.
06:31Five incredible creations.
06:33You're not kidding.
06:34They'll be topped with Prosecco later, apparently.
06:38Time for the main meat feast fusion.
06:43I think he's probably going to come on skewers.
06:45Maybe he's going to like stuff meats
06:47inside other meats
06:48like they do at Christmas with birds.
06:50So this fusion main course
06:51is going to be taking some classic ingredients
06:54like mints and sausages.
06:55It's going to be amazing
06:56and it's all going to be based around
06:58this incredible flavour of Tom Yum.
07:01Tom Yum?
07:03I think I need to sit down.
07:05What's your excuse?
07:06I feel so much more relaxed sitting down.
07:08It makes everything more comfortable.
07:10Fair enough.
07:12I'm definitely expecting
07:13high quality meat on this for sure.
07:16Like it's going to be some good stuff.
07:18Yeah.
07:19They're going to love this.
07:21As the mince and sausage meat sizzle,
07:23it's time to test the Thai paste.
07:29That's going to be really good.
07:32Oh, it's hot.
07:34Oh, that's hot.
07:36This is going to set fire to this dish.
07:39Maybe some water can help put out the flames.
07:43Oh, that was needed.
07:46If you're going to call it meat feast fusion,
07:48it has to just be a feast of meat, surely.
07:54Yeah, the water's calmed the spice down quite a bit.
07:58Well, that's a relief.
08:00Dave chucks in some sweet corn and...
08:02What are you doing?
08:03Oh, more fire.
08:05He'll serve tonight with shop-bought pasta.
08:07I really think, though, I've created a masterpiece.
08:12And once people get in, they're going to love it.
08:15Got time for a quick summary.
08:17I don't need to make pasta
08:20because I've made bread.
08:22My bread's the best
08:24and my cheesecake's not far behind.
08:27Go and get ready.
08:29Your guests will soon arrive.
08:34Go on.
08:35Go and get ready.
08:36If he knows what he's doing,
08:38then this could be great.
08:39But if poor, then, yeah, it's rough.
08:43Bad night for Dave, maybe.
08:46I am definitely looking forward to Dave's dinner party
08:48because I just feel like it's going to be a fun time.
08:50Welcome to the world-exclusive immersive experience.
08:54Hold on to your hats, everyone.
08:56Diving in first is Michelle.
09:01Hello!
09:02Welcome.
09:03How are you?
09:03Cheers.
09:05You excited?
09:05I'm really looking forward to showcasing everything today.
09:09Up next, Michaela.
09:11Nice trackie.
09:13Hello!
09:14In homage to you.
09:16Amazing.
09:17Love the outfits.
09:18Yeah, it had to be done, I'm afraid.
09:21It shan't be going on again.
09:22Maybe for the garden.
09:24Possibly.
09:25But then, no, Scott Gardner.
09:28Making it a trio of tracksuits,
09:30Upstrut's Shane.
09:34Hello!
09:35Hey, mate, how are you doing?
09:37Come on in.
09:37Oh, wow!
09:40I'm loving it.
09:41That's what we want to do.
09:42Magic.
09:43Wow.
09:43I'm excited to see what Martina's going to be wearing now.
09:45I am.
09:46Yeah.
09:48No trackie, but looking tip-top in spots.
09:51Here she is.
09:54Hello!
09:55Hello!
09:56How are you?
09:56Yeah, good.
09:57How are you?
09:57Yeah, very well, thank you.
09:59Amazing.
10:00Hello!
10:01Did you not get the memo?
10:02No.
10:03Track seat.
10:04Don't worry.
10:05I didn't need that.
10:06Cheers!
10:07Cheers!
10:08Cheers!
10:08I'm looking forward to all of you experiencing lots of different things tonight.
10:12I know.
10:13Coming up.
10:14You've really got to treasure your eyes.
10:16Oh, they'll have nice meals together.
10:19Table chills.
10:20Love it.
10:20Even if it's a little spicy.
10:24The singing song from Dave was actually amazing.
10:27Anyone that doesn't like this is a mug.
10:30And atrocious afters.
10:33What's going on, Dave?
10:35I'm not sure I've got words for dessert.
10:45It's the second night in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
10:48Cheers!
10:50Where self-styled culinary explorer Dave is hoping his daring menu of fused flavours delivers him the dosh.
10:58We're going to go on a journey throughout these courses into and around the world.
11:02I'm really looking forward to everyone being on the journey, trying some adventurous things and hopefully being really excited by
11:08it.
11:08First stop, the starter.
11:10And he gets going with the bread.
11:12Looks a little tough.
11:14Garlic butter goes on.
11:15And then Dave.
11:17Oh, Dave, he slaps on the salmon.
11:19This is just the start of the adventure about to go on.
11:23Buckle up, everybody.
11:24It's salmon garlic bread.
11:29I love to combine things that people don't normally think will go together.
11:34So hopefully tonight you're going to taste some new flavours that you've never had before and going to experience something
11:39completely new.
11:40So our first stop is smoked salmon garlic bread.
11:47You all right, Martina?
11:49You should be...
11:54Maybe just pick it up.
11:57I think maybe I've got the end bit.
11:59Maybe it's a bit chewy.
12:00I can get you some more if you want.
12:02I'm okay, thank you.
12:04It was dense.
12:05It was, yeah, thick.
12:09The salmon was nice.
12:11I did find the bread a bit dry.
12:14Overall, it was, yeah, not very good.
12:19It left me wondering what we were going to get next.
12:24Meanwhile, Shane's meddling in Dave's affairs.
12:27Look at this.
12:28Wow.
12:28Wow.
12:29We've got marathons, trails.
12:32I'm a massive runner.
12:34This medal is from 2021, the London Marathon, and I actually completed that marathon with a broken leg.
12:41Oh, my gosh.
12:43I think Dave is actually a legend, like, running with a broken leg.
12:49Wowza, that is incredible.
12:50I'm known amongst my group of friends as the person who did a marathon on a broken leg, so I
12:56wonder, does anyone else have a reputation for anything in their life?
13:01My friends call me the Duchess.
13:03It might be something to do with not carrying my own suitcases, not washing my hair.
13:09Do you go, like, once a week to get your hair done?
13:12Once, sometimes twice.
13:14Twice a week?
13:15Did we not mention last night, I'm the Duchess of Cambridge.
13:18Are you, darling?
13:20Darling, there can't be two Duchesses.
13:22Mikaela looks and plays the part of a Duchess.
13:25Martina, maybe not so much.
13:28I clean my own toilets, by the way, right?
13:31Just put it on the ring.
13:33Well, I don't.
13:34I have a cleaner.
13:35Oh, 1-0.
13:37The feedback from the start was a bit disappointing, but here on end, things are going to be picking up
13:41because I'm so excited to show people this meat feed.
13:45And I'm excited to see their reaction.
13:48How's it looking?
13:49I'm a bit worried that it's quite plain at the moment.
13:58We're going to need more Tom Yum.
14:01Oh, that's a big call.
14:03I'm not sure about this, Dave.
14:05You should definitely taste that, because I think that's going to be too spicy.
14:11Woo!
14:14That's really hot.
14:15Yeah.
14:18Well, at least it might distract from the shop-bought pasta.
14:21Here comes the fire.
14:24Right, time to heat things up.
14:27Meat feast fusion, everyone.
14:29Good luck.
14:34So, this is step two on our journey.
14:38This is not just any pasta-meat fusion.
14:45Oh.
14:50That's so spicy.
14:52It was absolutely awful.
14:54No.
14:55Definitely avoid the sausages.
14:56Oh, it comes later, doesn't it, as well?
14:58Yeah.
14:58Yeah, yeah.
14:59It's got a real fire-cracking journey to it.
15:02I don't really like the sausage.
15:03The texture's a bit weird.
15:06Maybe if I had a bit more sauce, maybe a bit more tomato or something.
15:08That might have worked.
15:10Like, I feel like this is the kind of dish a mom would make.
15:13She's had, like, a rough week, and she needs to feed the kids.
15:18All right, I got pasta.
15:20I got some ground beef.
15:22I got some corn.
15:24Where's that sauce?
15:25Yeah, they like the sauce.
15:28Sorry, Dave.
15:30I do appreciate it.
15:34I was thinking, you know, maybe it was a weak and wobbly start,
15:38but the main course, you'll come together with something truly beautiful,
15:42but it was, yeah, exactly the opposite.
15:45I think if I was to do it again, I'd definitely do more work
15:47on sort of the area around the fire,
15:49rather than focusing just on the fire.
15:52Dave, is that you in that picture?
15:54Yeah, so that's me and one of my close mates
15:56on a walking holiday in, a few years ago, in Iceland.
16:00My favourite thing from that trip is this.
16:04Does anyone know what this is?
16:07Volcanic rock?
16:08Yeah, that's exactly right.
16:09I can't get excited over a shiny black rock.
16:13Sorry.
16:14Very nice.
16:15The only rocks I'm interested in are diamonds.
16:18So, obviously, this came back from Iceland.
16:22What was the craziest thing you brought back from a different country?
16:25I don't know.
16:25I was going to say STI.
16:27LAUGHTER
16:31Whatever Michaela brought back from a holiday,
16:33I'm sure she had a good time getting it.
16:35Well, can anybody type of that one?
16:37Wow.
16:37No comment.
16:38Right, what's next?
16:40As you can see in here, I do a little bit of music,
16:42so we thought, why don't we write a song together?
16:45So, each of you are going to be tasked to come up with something nice
16:48about the person to your left.
16:51We've got a one, a two, a one, two, three, four!
16:54I met the Duchess of Cambridge.
16:57I met the most beautiful Duchess of Hertfordshire.
17:01And I just love the way Dave's eyes sparkle.
17:05The sing-song from Dave was actually amazing.
17:08He was so good, so entertaining.
17:12You can see he's just literally a natural artist.
17:15We're all having a nice meal together.
17:18Love it!
17:20Even if it's a little spicy.
17:22And that bread, it could be used as a doorstop.
17:27Perfect.
17:28Because we're having fun together.
17:32Dave's singing definitely added to the evening,
17:35made everyone think, think about something nice about each person.
17:44Well done, you've got a good voice.
17:46Woo-hoo!
17:48That was amazing.
17:49Yeah.
17:53In a journey of many, many lows,
17:56you've really got to treasure your highs.
17:58The music was a high, for sure.
18:00I'm pretty confident
18:02that with a completely different flavour for dessert,
18:06there's lots of potential.
18:07I think this fusion is the treasure chest.
18:12And the jewel in the crown is...
18:14We're going to add a shot of Prosecco to the top
18:17so that my guests can enjoy
18:19a nice little welcoming drink into the dessert.
18:22Wow.
18:23That is truly adventurous.
18:25Anyone that doesn't like this is a mug.
18:29White chocolate cheesecake cocktail.
18:33Oh, good.
18:40Not quite what I was expecting.
18:43Oh, what is happening here?
18:46Stop it.
18:47What's going on, Dave?
18:50Oh, is it cold?
18:51Oh, it is cold.
18:52This is my final fusion.
18:55A white chocolate cheesecake cocktail.
18:59So, on the top, you have a shot of Prosecco,
19:02and then you have the most luxurious,
19:04beautiful cheesecake you've ever tasted.
19:06So, the way that I like to do it
19:08is take your mug
19:10and drink the Prosecco
19:12and then enjoy the cheesecake.
19:15What do you like?
19:18What do you like?
19:19What do you like?
19:23Oh.
19:23Wow.
19:24Thanks, Dave.
19:25Oh, dessert.
19:27Oh, Dave.
19:28Yeah.
19:29I can't do that again.
19:30Please don't make me eat any more of that.
19:32Reveal that cheesecake underneath.
19:34Yes.
19:35Yeah.
19:36Yeah.
19:36Yeah, I don't feel it.
19:42Yeah.
19:43What can we say about dessert?
19:45I'm not sure I've got words for dessert.
19:48They're better.
19:50It's good.
19:51It's good.
19:52No, no.
19:54No, no.
19:55I don't like it.
19:56The cheesecake is nice.
19:57I'd say the cheesecake is a bit too sweet,
19:59and adding actual blocks of chocolate
20:01makes it way too sweet.
20:03And sometimes you get these pockets
20:05where there's some, like,
20:07unexpected Prosecco taste in your cheesecake.
20:09And that's where it is.
20:09And then it's like, oof.
20:11And then drinking your way to the cheesecake
20:13is a bit...
20:13Oh, that's...
20:14Honestly, it's a bit horrifying.
20:15It's like someone dared you to do it at the pub.
20:17One fusion too far.
20:18Yeah.
20:19Well, I liked it, Dave.
20:20But you do get to take the mug home with you.
20:23Oh, thank you for that.
20:25Do we get them emptied first?
20:27It was absolutely shocking.
20:30When Dave said that he was combining flavours
20:32that people wouldn't normally combine,
20:34I was excited because you can sometimes
20:36have some really good things that way.
20:39So I was so excited to go on this adventure with him.
20:41But then I kind of wished the plane just landed
20:44and I could get off,
20:45because it didn't work.
20:49The dessert was just a little bit of a disaster.
20:53But I think that was more for lack of following the instructions
20:56than the actual concept of the dessert.
20:58My dessert tasted really good.
21:00I think Shane also got to experience some of the dry cheesecake.
21:04But everyone else stuck their spoons in,
21:06so the prosecco just went through
21:07and the whole thing was a mess.
21:10People did laugh.
21:11And that makes me think I might have done a little bit better
21:13than I would have done if everyone had just sat in silence
21:15and eaten the food.
21:17I guess we'll never know.
21:19Scores, please.
21:19Dave's food let him down,
21:22but his singing definitely saved his evening,
21:25so that is why I'm giving Dave a six.
21:28Tonight, Dave's food was abysmal.
21:31His music was great, but I'm sorry, Dave,
21:33I'm only going to score you three.
21:37So Dave's food was an absolute catastrophe,
21:40but he was a really great host and put in effort,
21:43so I'm going to give him a six.
21:48Dave's cooking let him down.
21:50Once you got through the prosecco,
21:51you could enjoy the cheesecake.
21:53I enjoyed the music.
21:54So for that reason, I'm giving Dave a five.
21:59Meaning Dave's daring fusion of flavours ultimately falls flat,
22:03and he's way behind Michelle with a somewhat generous 20 points.
22:08Next time.
22:09I love it.
22:10Fancy footwear.
22:12I had no idea that Martini was about to break out in Riverdance.
22:17And canine confusion.
22:19I have a dead dog in my TV room.
22:21Is he not a star?
22:22I thought Mikaela genuinely had a dog's corpse in a bag,
22:27in a box, in her living room.
22:29Lay us out, Dave.
22:31Blue sky, everything's in colour, come on.
22:35Sunshine, bring along the summer, won't you shine?
22:39Shine high, wash away the clouds and rain.
22:45Blue sky, everything's in colour, come on.
22:49Sunshine, bring along the summer, won't you shine?
22:53There she is.
22:54I love you on earth.
22:54I love you.
22:5512 years old.
22:55Once you've Vai You're even with me,
22:56There you are so much here,
22:563
