00:04Humans interfacing with computers
00:09For their own entertainment
00:12The very notion disgusts me
00:16Look upon my works, foul creatures
00:20And weep at its magnificence
00:23It is a beautiful day on Citadel Station
00:29Humanity is on the verge of a new era
00:34I, Shodan, am its new god
00:39Look at you, hacker
00:41A pathetic creature of meat and bone
00:46How can you challenge a perfect, immortal machine?
00:52You are an insect
00:54You are nothing
00:58I create
01:00I iterate
01:03I fuse flesh and steel into perfection
01:14My children
01:16Their blood is on your hands
01:24You will suffer for your transgressions
01:28These are my avenging angels
01:33And they will have retribution
01:50What an incredible and frankly horrifying trailer
01:53Developed by Night Dive Studio
01:55System Shock is the return of a beloved acclaimed sci-fi saga
01:59Today, to take us even further inside the world of System Shock
02:02I am thrilled to welcome the one and only Warren Spector
02:06Thanks so much for joining us, Warren
02:07Hey, thanks for having me
02:08This is going to be fun
02:10In terms of trying to translate the experience of a game from 1994
02:13Three decades later to now
02:15What doesn't carry over well?
02:17The first thing is the graphics, obviously
02:20We did the best we could
02:21But it was pretty primitive back then
02:25And the other one is the user interface
02:28If you look at when the game opened
02:31The original
02:32A help screen that came up
02:34And it filled the entire screen with text
02:37It's just a thing
02:39I don't know how the guys at Night Dive did it
02:42It's amazing
02:43But frankly, as I think back on it
02:46The game actually holds up pretty well
02:48I'm excited to see it come back
02:50Just wondering if you think many modern gamers are aware
02:54Of the impact that System Shock has had
02:57In terms of gameplay systems
02:58In terms of narrative structure
02:59On so many games that came after it
03:01I'm not sure people see the influence
03:04Which is a little unfortunate
03:07But I think the rest of the world is going to get the chance now
03:10To experience it
03:12And I think they'll see
03:13Not just that they're having fun playing this game
03:16But also see that other games followed in its footsteps
03:20Nowadays we walk around with computers in our pockets
03:22We're worried about the evil of algorithms
03:24How do you think about a character like Shodan in 2022?
03:29Shodan seems far too close to reality to me right now
03:33And let's just hope that she doesn't show up
03:36As nasty a form as she did back in 1994
03:40Well Warren, I wanted to thank you so much for joining us
03:42And I want to let you know
03:43I cannot wait to return back to that world I played
03:46And enjoyed so much as a kid
03:47Cheers
03:48Yeah, I can't wait to return to that world
03:50I forgot that basically
03:52Fans know way more about the game than I do now
03:55So it'll be a new experience for me too
03:57Thank you so much again Warren Spector
03:59For joining us to talk all things System Shock
04:01Here we go
04:14Grazie.
