Trump on Iran: They are negotiating but they're afraid to say it

US President Donald Trump said Wednesday Iran is negotiating with his government "but they're afraid to say it." Addressing the National Republican Congressional Committee fundraising dinner in D.C., Trump said leaders in Iran are afraid "they'll be killed by their own people. They're also afraid they'll be killed by us." Iran is reviewing a US proposal to end the war in the Gulf but has no intention of holding talks to end the widening Middle East conflict, the country's foreign minister said on Wednesday. The comments by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi suggested some willingness by Tehran to negotiate an end to the war if its demands were met, despite an initial response that was negative as Iranian officials publicly poured scorn on the prospect of any negotiations with the U.S.

00:00When I tell you, we're winning so big, nobody's ever seen anything like we're doing in the Middle East with
00:05Iran.
00:06And they are negotiating, by the way, and they want to make a deal so badly, but they're afraid to
00:10say it
00:11because they figure they'll be killed by their own people.
00:15They're also afraid they'll be killed by us.
00:18There's never been a head of a country that wanted that job less than being the head of Iran.
00:28I don't want it.
00:31We'll listen to some of the things they say.
00:33We hear them very clearly.
00:35They say, I don't want it.
00:37We'd like to make you the next supreme leader.
00:39No, thank you.
00:41I don't want it.
00:42I agree with them 100%, but I do.
00:46We did a lot.
00:47We settled eight wars.
00:48But I actually thought when I went on this excursion, as I call it, excursion into hell, excursion into a
00:57terrible place,
00:59when I went on to do something that for 47 years should have been done by any of the other
01:05presidents.
01:07And you heard, numerous of them said they wished they did it, but they didn't have the guts to do
01:13it.
01:14We had no choice.
01:15But I thought it would be much worse.
01:17I thought that the energy prices, oil price, would go up higher.
01:22I thought the stock market would go somewhat lower.
01:26But it didn't matter to me.
01:27Short term, what we had to do is get rid of the cancer.
01:30We had to cut out the cancer.
01:32The cancer was Iran with a nuclear weapon.
01:36And we've cut it out.
01:37Now we're going to finish it off.
02:06We're going to finish it off.
02:07We're going to finish it off.
