00:05we brought a variety of enrichment items out for our gorillas spread them
00:10throughout the exhibit and they range from special volcano structures browse
00:17items ice sculptures placed in different locations for them to forage the volcano
00:25sculpture represents our alawa species and that sculpture is made out of ground-up
00:32leaf eater biscuit and gorilla munch biscuit and then for instance our
00:36california condor sculpture that is to represent the condors being a species
00:44that eats various meat and since our gorillas are only herbivores and they
00:49don't eat any meat we made their meat out of some more gorilla biscuit and
00:55peanut butter and put that all on an ice sculpture and with these warm
01:00temperatures they absolutely love the ice sculptures and ice blocks each sculpture
01:04represents different successes that we have had with San Diego Zoo Global and
01:09our research that we have done on various species such as the pocket mouse giant
01:16panda so each sculpture that we put out there represents various species
01:23when we first released the gorillas out on exhibit each gorilla spread out to
01:28different enrichment items and a couple like Tammy and our silverback Winston
01:35headed straight for the volcano our newest mom Imani and baby G they headed
01:42straight to the California condor enrichment item spent probably about 20 minutes
01:48there and while all the adults and the youngsters Monroe and Frank are two
01:53juvenile gorillas while they were all partaking in the solid food items of
01:57enrichment baby G she's not quite eating solid food yet only two months old so she
02:04was nursing while mom was eating her items
02:13Monroe our almost three-year-old juvenile he was on his own program he was jumping
02:19around from one enrichment item to another in fact he spent most of his time up on
02:24the rock that's right behind me he was getting various greens kale and some red leaf
02:30lettuce and then he was taking various browse items those are just branches with
02:36some tasty leaves on them and then he was jumping from one ice sculpture to
02:40another so he was definitely of all the gorillas the one trying to see what
02:46enrichment items were his favorite
