00:00Recent research reveals simply living near a cluster of fast food restaurants can increase
00:05your risk of having a stroke. Money Talks News reports, if people over 50 live near what are
00:11referred to as food swamps, a geographic area with multiple fast food options, they had a 13%
00:18higher risk of stroke than those who live in healthier neighborhoods. The yet-to-be-published
00:23study is set to be presented at the American Stroke Association's International Stroke
00:28Conference 2023. Approximately 18,000 people participated in the study and reside in areas
00:35where there are about six times as many unhealthy food options as there are healthy options. Dr.
00:41Dixon Yang, lead author of the study, says an unhealthy diet negatively impacts blood pressure,
00:47blood glucose, and cholesterol levels that increases the risk of stroke. Independent of one's own
00:53demographics or socioeconomic status, living in a neighborhood with an abundance of poor food
00:58choices may be an important factor to consider for many people.
