A severe cold front expected to move across the southern states.
Transcript
00:00A vigorous cold front is set to sweep over southeastern parts of the country as we round out the working
00:05week.
00:06Hi, I'm Jenny Sturrock and what we have at the moment is a big moisture infreed from the north.
00:11We're seeing that focus through South Australia, Victoria and parts of Tasmania as well.
00:17Now, in addition to enhancing the shower activity, we are focused on some areas of severe storm activity today.
00:24And that's namely through parts of South Australia and then into central and northeastern parts of Victoria
00:29and that risk will continue into the early evening tonight.
00:33Now, tomorrow we will see a colder air mass sweep over southern parts of the country.
00:38Now, that will lower the snow level for Tasmania.
00:40So the odd chance of an isolated flurry about peaks can't be ruled out.
00:44It also will bring the risk of some small hail with shower activity through western parts of Tasmania
00:50and down along the southwest coast of Victoria.
00:54Now, in addition to this, we'll also see the focus of the moisture shift into New South Wales
00:59and that will see the enhancement of the shower activity
01:01and also draw the chance of the severe thunderstorms into New South Wales tomorrow.
01:07Now, in addition to heavy rainfall, we are expecting the risk of damaging winds
01:11and large hail with that storm activity.
01:13And the timing of the storms is also important.
01:16During the late afternoon, early evening, when we're doing the school pick up
01:20and also looking to knock off and start the weekend,
01:22that is when the key time for those severe storms is expected to peak.
01:26So please make sure you're aware of what the latest warnings are
01:30before you get out there and get about your business to start the weekend.
01:33In addition to the land-based impacts, we are expecting a low-pressure system to develop.
01:38Now, that low-pressure system could drive damaging winds
01:42right through the southeastern parts of New South Wales early Friday into Saturday as well.
01:47And a severe weather warning for damaging winds will be issued leading into that event.
01:53In addition to that, the three-day rainfall totals are also of note,
01:57enhanced across northeastern parts of Tasmania,
02:00as well as the eastern parts of Victoria and southeast New South Wales,
02:04where rainfall totals across the three days could be in excess of 50 to 100 millimetres.
02:10Now, this low-pressure system is also going to enhance the sea state.
02:13So we are expecting enhanced swell, as well as wave heights in excess of five metres possible.
02:20So that damaging surf could also lead to coastal erosion.
02:24With so much severe weather around, from severe thunderstorms to the damaging winds
02:28and local flash flooding associated, as well as the coastal erosions,
02:32it's really important that you stay up to date with our latest forecasts and warnings.
02:36And you can do that by following our website and looking at our socials.
02:40Thanks all for listening.
