00:00All right, welcome back to Newswire here on Sports Grid.
00:02Appetizer is up this week for the Masters.
00:05It's the Houston Open.
00:06We're going to get into that and some potential winners.
00:09But before we do that, let's circle back to last week and bring back Brady Cannon,
00:12who appears with us each and every week.
00:14We talk some golf ahead of the upcoming events.
00:17And as I told you guys earlier on the week,
00:19Brady hit the winner of last week's Valspar Championship.
00:23And Brady's been coming on the show with me for a while.
00:26And this year in particular, it's been...
00:28Welcome back to the show, Brady.
00:30Ah, you were close.
00:31Welcome back to the show, Brady.
00:32Ah, you were close again.
00:34You just missed.
00:35You just missed.
00:35You just missed.
00:36Okay, we got one this past week.
00:39Matty Fitzpatrick.
00:41And a big one, too.
00:43Not like a 5-1 either.
00:45Yeah, no, not too shabby.
00:46I mean, he was one of the favorites.
00:49You know, I think he was the third choice, maybe the second choice even.
00:53I had him at a little better than 14-1.
00:55There were some 15s out there.
00:57But, hey, you still got to pick the right guy.
00:59And, yeah, it was nice to get one home.
01:02Like you said, we've had a couple of close calls.
01:04It was nice to break through.
01:06And hopefully this, you know, starts a little bit of a run here,
01:09which is great considering the Masters is just a couple weeks away.
01:14So the big news this week is Scotty Scheffler not playing in the Houston Open,
01:19which is probably a bigger question when you come back with me next week or the week after
01:23for if that factors into the Masters.
01:25Because we can just put this one aside for now and just wonder if him not getting the full warm
01:32-up
01:32and changing diapers in the middle of the night is going to change his approach.
01:35But let me tell you, Brady, that's a real thing going into the Masters.
01:38That is a real thing.
01:39We'll get to that when we get there.
01:41But we don't have that issue this week because Scotty's out.
01:44And so the favorite, by the way, is Min Woo Lee.
01:48This is the first time I can ever remember Min Woo Lee being a favorite of any tournament
01:52that you and I have ever discussed before.
01:54I don't recall him being a favorite.
01:55So why is he 13-1?
01:58I know it's a lighter field, and I get that too.
02:01But why is he the favorite in this?
02:03Yeah, you know, it's a good question.
02:06He's the defending champion.
02:07It's his only PGA Tour win.
02:10I really like him for this golf course.
02:13A lot of people were on him last year, and I remember kicking myself.
02:16Why didn't I pick him?
02:17You know, he makes perfect sense for this golf course.
02:19And what's interesting about this course, it's set up, it's always been, like you said,
02:24the appetizer for the Masters.
02:26It's very similar to Augusta National in terms of wide fairways, very little rough, big,
02:34massive, undulated greens.
02:37You know, the style of play, suiting a bomber that has an incredible short game is what we
02:43need to see success at Augusta National, and it's similar here at Memorial Park.
02:49I actually have a future on Min Woo Lee at 80-1 to win the Masters.
02:53So, you know, it makes sense that he is one of the guys at the top of the board here.
02:58Gotterup, as you know, has been off to a fantastic start.
03:02Brooks Koepka is a really interesting story.
03:05He's starting to play very, very well.
03:07His irons have been outstanding.
03:09The putter is a little bit cold.
03:11He is number one in ticket count at BetMGM this week to win the Texas Children's Houston Open.
03:17And I believe he is their second biggest, yes, he is their second biggest liability.
03:24Nikolai Hoigard is one of my selections.
03:27He's the biggest liability at BetMGM.
03:29I don't like that.
03:30But he fits that same mold, Craig.
03:32Big hitter with a great short game.
03:34That's the formula this week.
03:37So do you think that, let's go back to Koepka for a minute.
03:40I'm not surprised to hear about the tickets, by the way.
03:41Do you think that, I don't want to say that he's forcing himself to play right now,
03:46but it does feel like he's trying to get as many holes as he can in before Augusta
03:51because he's the one name that sticks out.
03:53And I think it's probably a mistake, honestly, to take him in this tournament
03:56because I feel like he is someone that just needs the work more than anybody else
04:00to get ready for a couple of weeks.
04:02I think you're spot on.
04:04I think he's a little bit of a fade for me this week
04:06because we're starting to get a little too excited about Brooks
04:09and his price has really come down.
04:11I think he's in the neighborhood of 20 to 1 at some places, if not lower.
04:15Now, 30 or 40 to 1 with Scotty in the field?
04:18Okay, I think it makes sense.
04:19But, and I don't necessarily want to jump on him for Augusta either.
04:24He's playing really well.
04:25And I feel what you're saying is accurate.
04:28He's trying to get as many reps in as possible,
04:30but I don't know if he's ready to win just yet.
04:33I want it to happen.
04:35It's great to have him back,
04:36but I don't know if he's going to get my money just yet.
04:39Tiger Woods played in this TGL, Brady, last night,
04:43and it was the first time I think he had played in a while.
04:46This was not any indication that he's changing his mind
04:50or shifting and going to play at Augusta in a couple weeks, is it?
04:53You know, it's funny.
04:54A good friend of mine just asked me that question.
04:56He's writing an article in the UK and asked me for my opinion on that.
05:01I think last night was a sign that he's going to try.
05:03I would also bet, certainly, that he doesn't make the cut.
05:07He might not even make two complete rounds,
05:09but it tells me that maybe he's going to give it a shot
05:12to at least try to get started in a couple of weeks.
05:15It's interesting.
05:16There's been no reporting whatsoever on him trying to get back yet.
05:19Brady, thanks again.
