01:33The team spent much of August and September weighing the benefits and risks
01:38with such a move, and ultimately we ended up with a unanimous decision
01:42to move forward with the initial migration.
01:45In October, our engineers began the process of merging our custom codebase
01:50over to UV5, spearheaded by our glorious lead programmer
01:53McP, and I am happy to now show you Ashes in
01:58Unreal Engine 5. As you can see
02:02we are in a different
02:05biome, one that you may not have seen before. Actually, you might have seen this. You might have seen
02:09some glimpses of it in the past videos, but I figured this area would
02:14be a pretty good one given the holiday season.
02:17If you're in the Northern Hemisphere, of course. Shout out to our Aussie and Kiwi friends
02:21and we're trying to start us out.
02:23But, as you can see, the weather systems
02:25actually are present in this area at the moment,
02:27which normally would give me some pause
02:30as a player.
02:32You know, would have to
02:33consider the type of effects that cold weather would have
02:35on my spells and my character's well-being.
02:39But,
02:40here is
02:42Ashes in Unreal Engine 5.

02:49there are some creatures here, obviously, that we need to steer clear of.
02:52But, I wanted to show off some of the initial work
02:54on implementing Lubin and Nanite
02:57into the world.

05:43But as you can see, the Lumen, which is one of the global illumination features that UE5 offers.
05:52And it's likely going to be most noticeable in dungeons as it's going to do a better job
05:55than Skylight Actor, which historically was exclusively used for world indirect illumination everywhere.

06:04Lumen actually provides a pretty realistic approach to lighting.

07:46As you can see, taking a look up here, Lumen has done a great job in really bringing
07:57to life this area.
08:01As you can see, there's light bouncing off of the surfaces and kind of casting into the
08:09rest of the cave, which is a pretty cool effect.
08:41That feels terrible killing these guys, but, you know, what am I going to do?
08:45So take a look at the visual differences.
08:47I mean, the great thing is, you know, you can go back...
08:50I love how you can also see the detail in the costume and the cloth that we have now.
08:59But you can go back and compare kind of the graphical fidelity that's in Alpha 1 and
09:07take a look at this video.
09:08and I think we'll have another little trailer that kind of goes through the area and the
09:14world, showing off a lot of this updated visual stuff.
09:21I mean, honestly, I've played a lot of MMOs in my days.
09:27And I cannot tell you just how exciting it is to see these types of graphics now, especially
09:34with the hard work of really talented individuals over at Epic who do a great job with Unreal Engine
09:41and now this latest development with UE5 is really presenting some next-generation visual.
