00:12Initial spark for the MetaHuman idea
00:15was just the fascination with digital characters in CG
00:19To us, digital humans are something magical even
00:23and infinitely complicated
00:26MetaHuman Creator is a cloud stream application
00:29that lets anybody create high fidelity digital characters
00:34What used to take months now takes minutes
00:36and people don't even have to think about
00:38all the technical steps that they normally would need to take
00:40We're going after three really hard problems
00:43and we're not compromising on any of those
00:45Outright quality that you'd expect in a AAA game for a digital human
00:49Making sure that anyone can use this tool
00:51that anyone can create a character in minutes or hours
00:54that used to take weeks and months
00:55and all of that has to work at that fidelity
00:57with rigged and ready to animate in-engine in real time
01:01This topic, previously reserved only for teams with large budgets
01:05and with a large amount of time
01:06now is accessible to everybody
01:08and even to people outside of the industry
01:10It's like really a very robust
01:13but very simple to use system
01:16and it's really a joy when you just
01:17sit there in front of the tool
01:19and you can just focus yourself on the sheer creativity
01:23and you get excited about exploring
01:26The MetaHuman Creator uses a library of real scans of people
01:30So when you move the handles around to create a character
01:32you're mixing together these different parts of real people
01:35to create something that's still really believable
01:37and lifelike and has personality
01:39But it's not just creating the shape of the face
01:41you can also choose wrinkles applied to the face
01:43to make a character look older
01:45but we're not just applying this as a texture onto the face
01:47we also subtly change the geometry of the face at the same time
01:50to make sure those wrinkles really match with the shape of the face
01:52and just bring the whole thing together into a realistic and believable character
01:56One of the really cool features that you get out of the box
01:59with the MetaHuman Creator is that
02:00you're essentially focused on creating the high quality character
02:03but at the same time you get multiple levels of details
02:08We take the hugely detailed strand-based hair
02:10and turn that into a card-based groom
02:12and then into a simple helmet
02:14We take the geometry of the face and make simplified versions of that
02:17We also simplify the materials
02:19so that you can use these characters in a crowd
02:21or on a range of different devices
02:25It's also creating a new rig for the character
02:27which controls how they move, how they emote
02:29and that really brings life to the character
02:33And then there's this other moment when you hit play
02:35and it comes to life
02:36and that's really the benefit of being real-time
02:38and always generating this fully rigged version of the face
02:42is you hit play and it moves, it's alive
02:43And this person who's come from your imagination
02:46that doesn't exist in real life
02:48is suddenly there looking at you, smiling at you
02:50that is kind of magical
02:52When you look at MetaHuman Creator
02:53or things we're doing with Quixel Megascans
02:55the things that are coming in Unreal 5
02:57I think the type of content we're going to see
02:59from very small teams and individuals
03:00is going to be a massive shift
03:03MetaHuman can be your end point
03:05it can be the character that goes into your game
03:07but it can also be your starting point
03:09where you start creating your own layers
03:11on top of what MetaHuman provides
03:14I feel that we've accomplished something truly remarkable here
03:17by creating these digital characters
03:20with which you can empathize
03:22Our whole team spent years designing this database
03:25and these rigs
03:26and we're so excited to give this back to the community
