00:00So, again, here's a look at it.
00:01The ball ends up in the right-handed batter's box.
00:04And Meyer's swing, which we slow down here a little bit, you can see.
00:08Watch how he just kind of swings and doesn't really even reach for the ball.
00:13It's just not even close.
00:15Frankly, it's pathetic.
00:17And it's a non-competitive swing.
00:19And we froze it here because you can see his hips are already going towards first base.
00:24The ball's going towards third base.
00:26It's almost like he knew he had no chance to hit it and gave up on the swing before it
00:31even got to home plate.
00:33If I'm Alex Cora or I'm anybody on that staff that watched that in real time or on video, I'm
00:40losing my mind and saying, what the hell was that?
00:43And I think that is part of what they were trying to drill in to Meyer's head during spring training
00:49and entering this year so that he had an understanding of what was required of him to be an everyday
00:55player.
00:55They were in the big leagues.
00:57Now, the numbers are the numbers from a year ago.
01:00We'll punch these up quickly because they've been all over the place and everybody knows them.
01:05Against left-handed pitching, Meyer hit 154.
01:08Breaking balls, many of those against lefties like the one you just saw, 206.
01:13But the last number is one that should alarm you, and that's off-speed.
01:17That's right-handers and left-handers.
01:19Now, I think the bigger problem is on the outside part of the plate.
01:23The off-speed means change-ups from right-handers, split-fingered from right-handers, balls that were moving away from
01:31Meyer.
01:31That is where he has looked most vulnerable.
01:34And this is where you should watch him in the early part of the year and see if he's handling
01:40that part of the plate better than he did a year ago.
01:45Because I think that's the one that's ultimately going to decide how he performs offensively.
