00:00Today, as at that profoundly difficult moment, and as in the aftermath of the subsequent atrocity on Bondi Beach in
00:08Sydney,
00:08we declare once more that we stand with our Jewish friends, colleagues and neighbours.
00:14And with the oldest hatred on the rise, we assert our unwavering commitment to defeat it.
00:22Now, Madam Deputy Speaker, the Prime Minister has been clear that this government will lead the way,
00:27including through a relentless national security effort, which is being mounted around the clock by MI5 and the police,
00:36who of course have our full backing in their work to detect and disrupt plots targeting the Jewish community in
00:43our country.
00:44Now, while those activities must necessarily take place away from view,
00:49our willingness to take strong and decisive action when threats present themselves has been underscored again in recent weeks,
00:57with three men jailed over a foiled terrorist plot targeting the Jewish community in Greater Manchester,
01:04and a separate investigation into suspected surveillance of locations and individuals linked to the Jewish community in the London area,
01:12which resulted in two men being charged last week under the National Security Act.
01:17The head of UK counter-terrorism policing has said the number of national security cases involving activity by hostile states,
01:26including Iran, has increased by 50% in six months.
01:31The figure was revealed as officials continue to investigate whether a suspected Iran-backed group was behind the arson attack
01:39on Monday.
01:40A video has allegedly been posted on Telegram by an Islamist group called Harakat Ashaub Ayyamin al-Islamiyah,
01:49showing a map of the location where the ambulances were kept and footage of them on fire.
01:55The UK's chief rabbi, Sir Efraim Mirvis, said while the incident had left people shocked and saddened,
02:04the community will continue standing tall and living as proud British citizens.
02:10Thank God nobody was injured.
02:13And how low can you get?
02:16This is the facility of the Hatsala voluntary ambulance organisation to save human life,
02:24and here we are, people who have no regard for human life.
02:27However, our response is one of strength, of fortitude, of resilience, the synagogue alongside which this happened.
02:34They're going to be back in action, and in fact, our response will be not only to continue in strength,
02:40but we're going to be much stronger because we're not going to be cowards.
02:45We're not going to be intimidated by terrorists, and this was a terrorist attack.
02:49Nothing's going to stop us from standing tall as Jews and behaving in a way according to our tradition as
02:57proud British citizens.
