00:01The government has updated planning requirements so developers will install solar panels and heat
00:07pumps on all new homes in England. These requirements are set to come into place from
00:142028 and aims to cut energy bills and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Under the new guidance,
00:21roofs must include solar panels covering an area at least 40% of the ground floor size.
00:26And new homes must use heat pumps or connect to heat networks instead of gas. Plug-in panels suitable
00:33for balconies will soon be sold in shops following safety changes. Some developers
00:38welcome the certainty but others warn about the scale of the changes required.
