00:42One of the coolest things about any superhero story is the origin.
00:45We get to go 20 years before the events of Pirlo 1
00:48and tell the story of the first battles between the UNSC and the Covenant.
00:53The UNSC, they're the regimented soldiers.
00:56They're the professional army.
00:57The Covenant is this rag-tag, sort of loosely organized collection of alien races
01:03that don't really like each other.
01:05Covenant, they're the bad boys.
01:07So their leader powers are up close and personal.
01:09The Prophet has a cleansing beam.
01:12That's what they use to glass the planets into oblivion.
01:15The UNSC spin on the powers is much different.
01:17It's a little bit more from afar.
01:19They're sending down bombers from above.
01:23Serena, status.
01:25In Halo, the first-person shooter, you see things just from a first-person perspective
01:28and it's like being in a canyon or a hallway and you're sort of moving from point A to point
01:33B.
01:33In Halo Wars, you're in cities and from a top-down perspective
01:38and you see a lot more of the world.
01:41Of course, all the fan favorites like the grunts and brutes and jackals,
01:46Spartans, scorpions, hornets from Halo 3.
01:48Those are all in the game.
01:50We're establishing a strategy genre on the console.
01:53Halo's a big-ass foot in the door for that.
01:55In Halo Wars, Spartans aren't indestructible.
01:57If you play Halo 3, you die all the time.
01:59So one of the things that we know the fans always wanted to do
02:01and that I wanted to do at least, too, is go back and be multiple Spartans.
02:05So Halo Wars, finally, you know, we can indulge that Jones.
02:07Being able to have three Spartans and being able to take over the enemy's vehicles,
02:10like, the Covenant can't do that part and that's probably my favorite thing to do.
02:15The concern that PC gamers have are, you know, ensemble fans that we've wadded the game down.
02:20The game has a lot of depth.
02:22There's a ton of different ways to build units and upgrade them and things to do with them,
02:25but the controls are really very simple.
02:28I think it'll be the template for RTS console controls.
02:32It was a huge turning point when our balance guys started to get really good at the game
02:36and then say, hey, I can play this game just as well, in a couple cases better than on a
02:41PC.
02:42We knew we were on to something.
02:44You're playing on the couch and you're playing against people that have the same controls as you,
02:48sort of just like a first-person shooter.
02:50People would say the accuracy is not quite the same, but it's still just as fun.
02:56I think we're pretty good at making RTS here, and I think we tend to give people what they expect.
03:02Halo Wars has to be a lot of things.
03:03It's got to establish the strategy genre on the console.
03:06It's got to be the next great Halo game.
03:08It's also got to be just simply a good strategy genre.
03:11In Halo Wars, if you don't pay attention to the battles, you are going to get your ass kicked.
03:14And that's actually what we want.
