00:12Welcome back to DayPass. Today, we're in Copenhagen, a city famous for cycling,
00:17but this time it's not just bikes. There are several places I want to visit while I'm in town,
00:23but I also want to try riding every rail line in the city, which means riding four metro lines,
00:28six heavy rail lines, and most important of all, the brand new LRT line that just opened at the end
00:34of October. That seems achievable to me, and it'll be an enjoyable day of riding trains.
00:40The most difficult part will be trying to pronounce all of those Danish station names.
00:45Judging by the flags, I think we might be in Denmark.
00:50They really want you to know we're in Denmark.
00:54We're starting our journey at the Copenhagen Central train station, where we'll be taking
00:58the metro to one of the stranger parts of Copenhagen's history, Freetown, Christiania.
01:04And with that, that checks off the M4. One down, lots to go.
01:11All right, that's the M2.
01:23I'm not going to try to pronounce the Danish names. I'm letting Google Translate do that for me.
01:28So right now we're at...
01:30Christianshaum.
01:31That one wasn't so bad. I probably could have done that.
01:34This is a nice neighborhood in the center of the city. We're going to walk through it to Freetown,
01:39Freetown, which is a little bit weird.
01:43The exits aren't labeled here with numbers or letters or anything, so we just have to take our best guess.
01:52Copenhagen is just such a nice city.
01:54This is like the perfect winter day.
01:57It's like cool, but not too cold. A little bit of snow, but it hasn't yet turned into like
02:03icy slush or something like that.
02:06As a Canadian, I feel at home in this kind of weather.
02:09But ask me how I'm feeling by the end of the day.
02:16Nice to see a Dutch Buckfeeds.
02:18In the Netherlands, it's very common to have the two-wheel cargo bikes.
02:21But here, the three-wheeled versions are much more common.
02:25They were invented here as the Christiania bike, I believe they're called.
02:28So it's kind of the thing to have the three-wheel cargo bike here.
02:31Probably better on snow.
02:33Welcome to Freetown, Christiania.
02:36This place has got a weird history.
02:39It was originally a military base, but it was abandoned and occupied by squatters in the 1970s,
02:45who turned it into a sort of anarchist commune or intentional community.
02:49And it's still a little bit weird to this day.
02:52You can see on the other side of the sign, you are now entering the EU,
02:55because they don't consider themselves part of Denmark.
02:59So you can see the whole area, which was obviously old fortifications,
03:05that later became a modern military base and then abandoned in the 20th century.
03:12There's a lot to explore here, and we're not going to be able to get to even half of it.
03:15We're here very early in the morning, because while you're allowed to take pictures and videos in here,
03:22they prefer it if you don't take videos of people.
03:24And so we're going to respect that and get here before all the cafes open.
03:28But this is a really interesting place.
03:30This is where you'll find all the weirdest art and cafes and all kinds of interesting things.
03:36Now, the reality is, this is part of Denmark.
03:39But I guess it's kind of a, it depends who you ask.
03:42This place has gone through a lot of strange transitions over the decades.
03:46At one point in time, they used to have just open drug dealing on a street called Pusher Street.
03:53That got shut down in around 2016, if I remember.
03:57So now there are signs that say no hard drugs allowed.
04:00Still a lot of weed smoking, though.
04:01There's just art everywhere. It's actually really cool.

04:21There is lots to explore here, and I would love to spend more time.
04:25But I've got some trains to ride.
04:29If you look at this street, you can see it's made of cobblestones,
04:33which are very rough in the center.
04:34But here on the sides, in the bike lane, they've used smooth cobbles, so it's easier to cycle over.
04:40Kind of neat.
04:44You can tell we're getting to rush hour.
04:46There's a lot of bikes here.
04:48When they talk about winter cycling in Denmark,
04:52they sometimes call it Viking Viking.
04:57It's coming up to rush hour, so it might be crowded on the metro.
05:01We'll find out.
05:03Every day, around 360,000 people use the metro in Copenhagen, and that's just the metro.
05:08So, I'm expecting a busy ride this morning.
05:21All right, that's the M1 checked off.
05:23We've almost got every metro line.
05:29So, we've been on M1, M2, and M4, which means all we're missing is M3.
05:33But the reason we're here at is because this is the only station on the network
05:39where all four metro lines converge.
05:41We need to take the M3, the city ring.
05:47I like how everybody lines up very politely on the sides of the doors.
05:53That's one of the best parts of having platform screen doors,
05:55is you know exactly where you're going to board.
06:01It's crowded this morning, but it's not uncomfortable,
06:04especially when the trains arrive so often.
06:06I love to see a transit system that's well used.
06:10This train is the M3 line, I am now.
06:21And with that, we've been on all four metro lines in Copenhagen.
06:26That last one was the circle line.
06:29I feel like every city should have a circle line around the city center,
06:33because it's really useful.
06:35Get on it, Amsterdam.
06:38Where to next?
06:39Yeah, this is our train.
06:42We're going to...
06:43I like that I'm just going to use Google Translate for the Danish.
06:48Don't even try.
06:51Change at Nordhaven for the S trains.
06:54This is the only station on the M4 that is above ground.
07:09I love all the bikes parked at the train stations.
07:14We're here to get a ferry, but we just missed one.
07:18So there's something I want to check out nearby.
07:21It's a nice bike path.
07:22I love these car-free areas between the buildings.
07:26This neighborhood reminds me a lot of Pouthavens in Amsterdam.
07:31Same kind of thing, I guess, built on a former industrial portland.
07:36It's amazing how much housing you can fit into a place if you don't have wide roads and lots of
07:41car parking.
07:42This is actually really good.
07:44There's lots of bridges, lots of different ways to get between the buildings.
07:48You don't have to walk around like each one of the piers.
07:51Honestly, one of my favorite things to do in Copenhagen is just to walk through the neighborhoods because they're so
07:56nice.
07:57I really like the old neighborhoods, of course, but the new ones are nice too.
08:02That was great.
08:04Look at that building.
08:05That is wacky architecture.
08:06All of the buildings have very different architecture, but they somehow all kind of fit.
08:11It's not like they're just a bunch of glass boxes.
08:14They're more interesting than that.
08:16I'm no architecture expert though.
08:19So this is a grocery store, but it has parking above it.
08:25But we're not here for the parking garage.
08:28We're here for what's on top.
08:38Oh, look at that.
08:39On the roof, there's a giant playground.
08:42Apparently, some of these are set up for people to do CrossFit workouts.
08:46I don't know, I don't do CrossFit.
08:47I think that I'd have to ask my brother.
08:49He's the expert in that.
08:51Pretty nice view from up here too, but we should probably get back to the dock before we miss our
08:56ferry.
09:06Oh, nice.
09:07This takes us right outside.
09:09We've got 12 minutes to make it back.
09:20We've got eight minutes.
09:21No problem.
09:24All right, there's the dock.
09:27I'm here with plenty of time to spare, and the ferries are included in our day pass.
09:32The ferry is pulling up just as we arrive.
09:48Spot for parking bikes.
10:08This may not be the fastest way to get to where we're going, but it is much more scenic.
10:14There's a couple of interesting things we're going to see along the way.
10:20I love shipping containers.
10:22I think they are just peak efficiency, the way they're routed around the world.
10:27It's incredible that absolutely everything is moved in standardized-sized shipping containers.
10:34Decent-sized cruise ship.
10:35That's not even one of the big ones, eh?
10:36And it's still huge.
10:38What I would like to take some time, though, would be an ocean liner.
10:41But there's only one left in the world.
10:44The Queen Mary II.
10:46Ocean liners, different from cruise ships, because they are meant for transportation,
10:50to take you from one place to another.
10:52Obviously, before airplanes were invented, ocean liners were pretty common.
10:57And there was a famous one that you might have heard of called the Titanic.
11:00But the Queen Mary II is the only one that's left.
11:03And I would love to take it sometime when going to see my family in Canada.
11:08But there's no good reason to take it.
11:11A flight is obviously significantly faster.
11:13And actually, because the ocean liner takes like five days, the flight is less polluting, too.
11:19But one of these days, I would like to take an ocean liner before they're totally gone forever.
11:25Over there is the star fort, and you can see the windmill.
11:28Feels like something Brian from Real Engineering would be on someday.
11:32He always gets to go to the coolest places.
11:35We're passing by the Opera House.
11:37That's a 1,400-seat opera house right in the river.
11:41The ferry may not be the quickest way to get around.
11:46But as with any port city, it is one of the best ways to explore the city.
11:51This cycling bridge is really nice.
11:53It was built in 2016.
11:55It also raises up to let ships through.
11:58The one small problem with it, though, is that they did this really nice, colorful design.
12:03But it means you have to take a really sharp turn when you're cycling.
12:06If you want to learn more, there's a Not Just Bikes video about Copenhagen that talks all about it.
12:19This is the famous street in Copenhagen.
12:23If you do a search of pictures of Copenhagen, you're almost certainly going to see this street.
12:29In the 1600s, it was full of drunkenness and prostitution.
12:35Now it's just fancy restaurants and tourists.
12:38Here you can see the famous houses that are painted all different colors.
12:43There was no washroom on that ferry.
12:45But thankfully, my toilet finder says that there's a five-star pissoir just down here.
12:51Let's check it out.
12:52How are they all five stars?
12:55I'm beginning to doubt the rating system here.
12:58Are you in line?

13:04You know, as far as pissoirs go, this really is five stars.
13:11Much better than the red mailbox in Nantes.
13:14I love how in Copenhagen, the cafes have their patios open all year round, even in the winter.
13:19And they have heaters and blankets.
13:23This is a very touristy street, but I can understand why.
13:27It's actually really nice, especially at Christmas.
13:30Ooh, churros.
13:31But before we continue down this street, I want to take a slight detour.
13:35Because there is one thing that I am not leaving Denmark without having.
13:40The pastries in this country are incredible.
13:43There's a reason why we call them Danish's in English.
13:46Danish people are going to be upset that I go to a chain, but I know they're going to have
13:51it.
13:51Ah, here we are.
13:55This is a, uh, and it's a chain bakery, but it's still good.
14:06Hello. Can I get that canal snickle?
14:12Oh yeah.
14:16That's good.
14:17All right, let's get back to the trains.
14:21That'll give me enough energy to keep me warm.
14:24This street, the...
14:25Strahlen.
14:27...was one of the world's first pedestrianized streets.
14:30What that means is that this is a street that used to have cars on it,
14:34but it was one of the first in the world to remove those cars in the 1960s.
14:38That was such a radical idea at the time that the mayor started getting death threats from shopkeepers who said
14:46they'd be driven out of business if the cars were removed.
14:49So he started traveling with bodyguards.
14:51But the plan went through, and this is the result.
14:54It's now one of the best pedestrian streets in the entire world.
14:58And of course, the shops didn't just not go under.
15:01They're also doing better than ever.
15:03This is probably the most desirable retail space in the entire city.
15:09One of the things people often ask me about pedestrianized streets is,
15:12how do the shops get their deliveries?
15:14Well, we're about to see it.
15:16Here, trucks are allowed to come in between 4 and 11 a.m.
15:20And since we're here before 11, we're going to get to see how the shops get restocked.
15:25You can see at this time in the morning, the street is just covered in delivery vans.
15:29But by 11 a.m., they'll all be gone,
15:32and this will be completely pedestrianized for the rest of the day.
15:38We're back at the metro station.
15:41There's one thing I really kind of want to check out before lunch.
15:45The Copenhagen Metro is a relatively new system,
15:48with the first nine stations having opened only in 2002.
15:51Today, the metro system has 44 stations across four lines.
15:56That's an impressive rate of metro construction,
15:59especially for a dense and historic city like Copenhagen.
16:02The underground stations are 30 meters deep and have platform screen doors at every track,
16:08making them safe and convenient to board.
16:10And the frequencies are really good.
16:14The trains come so often they have to put half minutes in the signs.
16:17And all of the metro trains are driverless too,
16:20which allows them to have very short headways.
16:22That's the time between trains.
16:24So they move a lot of people and you never have to wait very long.
16:27The best part about automated transit
16:30is that you can pretend you're driving the train.
16:33Copenhagen is currently building their fifth metro line, M5, which is scheduled to open in 2036.
16:39I'm sure the design of this new line will be equally impressive,
16:42but maybe that's a future topic for our friends over at Practical Engineering.
16:56This is going to be a bit of a weird stop, but there's a thing up here
17:00that was one of my kids' favorite things to see in Copenhagen.
17:03I don't want to check it out, but I want to check it out.
17:05It's nicer to walk through the park.
17:08The hardest part of it going to Denmark is pronouncing any other words.
17:26I have no idea what she's saying.
17:30Looks like it's spelled Stroget.
17:33The thing with Copenhagen is there are a lot of really nice neighborhoods.
17:37Like I found that whenever I just kind of wander through the city,
17:42the neighborhoods are more often nice than not.
17:46There's like lots of parks and quiet streets,
17:51bicycle lanes and kids out playing.
17:54Although right now the kids should be in school.
18:00They're open.
18:00Great. This is what's called the Children's Traffic Playground.
18:04It's a place where kids can learn to ride bicycles.
18:08There's a rental shop here where kids can rent bikes if they don't have their own.
18:13Or yeah, they can bring their own bike.
18:16This whole park is designed to be a miniature city with little sidewalks and roads.
18:23There's a miniature gas station and kids can ride their bikes around here.
18:27We had a great time the last time we were here with the family.
18:30We rented bikes from the shop and the kids rode all around.
18:34You can see the little road and the little roundabout.
18:39And they've got all the same size.
18:42They're just tinier.
18:43Right now I'm being a tourist and walking in the little bike lane.
18:47See here is a shared path between bikes and pedestrians.
18:52You can see the turning lanes for bicycles on the ground.
18:58And they even have these functioning traffic lights.
19:02It's really good fun to come through here when there's a whole bunch of kids.
19:06And all like the six-year-olds are stopping for the red lights.
19:09And the little toddlers are just plowing right through because they don't know any better.
19:14But that's why this is here.
19:16They even have blue on the bike lane through the intersection.
19:19So this is a place that kids can come to ride their bikes safely and to learn about all of
19:27the traffic laws
19:29so that they're ready to cycle to school when they're a little bit older.
19:35I love it.
19:36All right, well let's go to lunch because there is a really cool place I want to check out for
19:41lunch
19:42that I've never been to before.
19:56If you're just paying per trip, then you can check in here and validate your pass.
20:01But since we got a day pass, we don't need to do that.
20:04The trains on this metro aren't very long, but they come very often.
20:09And I think that's probably better, to be honest.
20:27I love looking out the window. It's the best.
20:29A lot of metro stations are higher than the rest of the track because the train has to go uphill
20:36to go in,
20:37which slows it down naturally without brakes.
20:39And then coming out, it's downhill.
20:41So it speeds up naturally without...
20:43Yeah, so they often do it to save on brakes and electricity.
20:52All right, and we're back at...
20:53Gavistan.
20:56I think the Christmas market should be open, so we'll walk through there on our way to lunch.
21:02Oh, it smells so good. Christmas really is the best time to come through Northern Europe.
21:10Especially if you get weather like this.
21:14It's after 11, so all the vans and trucks are gone, and the street is now totally open to people.
21:24So just up ahead is supposed to be the ultimate transit-themed restaurant.
21:30It's a restaurant where you eat inside of a tram.
21:37Pay your fare.
21:38We have a day pass.

21:48It just takes wherever you want.
21:51Okay, this is pretty funny.

21:57So just like every city, Copenhagen had a whole series of tram lines running through the city.
22:03But the last of them were taken out in 1972.
22:06But there is hope.
22:08Trams are coming back to Europe.
22:10We actually visited Nanta in the first episode, which was the first European city to bring back their trams.
22:16And now, just a few months ago, Copenhagen opened its newest tram line, a new LRT line,
22:23that we're going to check out this afternoon.
22:25This restaurant is made out of the old seats from one of those trams.
22:29The walls are decorated with pictures of trams.
22:31The ceilings have old advertisements on them, as well as the old schedule and the list of stops.
22:37Perfect for a trip like this.
22:39Now, let's see if the food's any good.
22:47It's a pretty good burger.
22:52Well, that was great.
22:54But so far, we've been doing Copenhagen on easy mode by taking the metro.
22:58Now that I got a burger and a beer in me, it's time to step it up a notch.
23:03And we're going to try to ride every train line in the whole city.
23:06But first, we need to get on the metro again.
23:09Our next stop is...
23:11Flint Hall.
23:17This part of the city is just so beautiful.
23:21I couldn't imagine what it would be like if cars were still allowed in here.
23:30Ooh, a Burger King.
23:32Here we were, eating at the tram restaurant like suckers.
23:38We need to pick up the M1 or the M2.
23:41Either one will work.
23:53Nice.
24:03We're out here because this is a major transit station between the metro and the heavy rail trains.
24:10Copenhagen's rail network is designed in a hub and spoke system because even their trains are bicycles.
24:16But one of the important things to do with a hub and spoke is that it's good to connect the
24:20lines out in the suburban areas
24:22so that people don't always have to go into the center in order to get to another train.
24:27And so we're going to take the F train, which is exactly that.
24:38Now we're on Copenhagen's heavy rail, which is rail for the whole region.
24:42We're on our way to Benzheim, where we'll pick up another one of the rail lines.
24:48Right now we're on the F line, which connects between all of the other lines in the suburbs.
24:54And we're heading down here.
24:58Since we're not running in rush hour, bikes are allowed on the train.
25:02Copenhagen actually encourages people to take their bike on the train,
25:05which is totally different than the Netherlands, where you're encouraged to park your bicycle at the train station.
25:11And then if you need a bike on the other side, you get an OV feet, so a rental bike
25:16provided by the train company.
25:18We're coming in here. We're going to there because I want to ride the new LRT.
25:43That's line F down. Now let's move to line B.
25:50Let's get this train.
25:54Perfect timing.
25:56You know, I'm a bit mixed when it comes to bicycles on trains.
26:00On one hand, it's super convenient to be able to take your bicycle and then have it with you at
26:04your destination.
26:05On the other hand, they do take up a lot of space.
26:08I mean, it's better than a car train.
26:09I have those in a few places in Germany.
26:12I've seen them loading up the cars so you can have your car with you when you get there.
26:16That takes up even more space.
26:19But I feel like if they let bicycles on the trains in the Netherlands, the way they do here,
26:24then there'd be no more room for anybody to sit.
26:27It would be nothing but bicycles.
26:43It would be nothing but the way they do.
26:44Now, just as if we were in Chicago, we'll be taking the L.
26:53All right, we'll be taking this all the way to the end of the line at...
26:57One, two, one, two, one.
27:01New LRT.
27:02Oh, it's still got that new LRT smell.
27:06So this is the new LRT line in Copenhagen that is actually still under construction.
27:12This first segment that we're going to take only opened in October of 2025.
27:16We're going to ride it to the end of the line and see what it's like.
27:24So apparently these are used in Tel Aviv, Den Haag and the Netherlands.
27:29There you go.
27:32Doha, Munich, Copenhagen.
27:38And that's it.
27:40We're riding to here.
27:41I like how they've just covered this with a translucent piece of plastic
27:45because they're going to peel it up in summer of 2026.
27:49So you see this line is very long and it's going to be a radial line
27:54that connects all of the rail lines out in the suburbs.
27:58So to each one of these spokes of the hub and spoke system,
28:01you'll be able to take a tram between them.
28:03I love trains.
28:05They're so much smoother than buses.
28:07We're actually moving in a good clip right now.
28:10I wonder how fast we get going.
28:12Let's see if I can do it before the next stop.
28:14Oh yeah, 70 kilometers an hour.
28:17Not bad.
28:19LRTs like this are a great fit for lower density suburban areas like this.
28:24They can be built very, very cheaply, especially compared to subways.
28:29They're way more comfortable and more reliable than a bus
28:31and they can be given transit signal priority so they don't get slowed down by cars.
28:36And with the money you save by building an LRT instead of a subway,
28:39you can build a lot more LRT lines.
28:45And you can see where the rail line is going to continue in the future in the summer of 2026.
28:53But right now, let's get back into Copenhagen.
29:07So I thought the train was terminating here and heading back the way we came,
29:11but it turns out that this station is kind of interesting.
29:14That doesn't look like it goes through.
29:19How did that happen?
29:20The train comes in and stops, but then continues along its route in the opposite direction.
29:25Well, this is interesting. Maybe it did just continue on.
29:29Maybe we just got off for no reason.
29:31This map doesn't really make it clear that the train turns around.
29:35I mean, it's correct, but I've just never seen this kind of thing in the middle of an LRT line
29:40before.
29:41All right, well, live and learn. We're going to wait another seven minutes.
29:47So the driver gets out and walks to the other end of the tram to continue on his way.
30:00Well, that's one way to do it.
30:02So it's not exactly a return of trams to Copenhagen, but it's a good start.
30:07Now, if only they could build some trams within the city.
30:12One tram arrives, another tram leaves.
30:16Let's try this again.
30:23These are nice trams, though. They're really long.
30:26They're completely level, no bumps or anything, and they got level boarding.
30:32Not bad. They're even level through the connecting area.
30:34Yeah. We're off.
30:42This is a very suburban area. You can see strip malls, wide roads.
30:47But now that this LRT is here, they're adding some new density.
30:51Toronto actually had an LRT plan many years ago that would have built exactly this kind of thing throughout the
30:58suburbs.
30:58It was called Transit City, and it was supposed to build a half dozen LRT lines that crisscrossed through the
31:06city and across the suburbs.
31:08Unfortunately, once Rob Ford was elected, he canceled that project.
31:12Without council approval, I will ask, but anyway.
31:15And there's only two lines left, the Eglinton Crosstown and the Finch West LRT, both of which have been horrendously
31:22delayed.
31:23The Eglinton Crosstown just celebrated its 15th anniversary, and it's still not open.
31:29So as it turns out, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT actually opened on February 8th, and reviews have been pretty positive.
31:36I've been waiting a long time for this, so I can't wait to ride it when I'm visiting Toronto this
31:42summer.
31:43Man, Toronto could totally use something like this through its suburbs.
31:47This is exactly what every lower-density city needs.
31:58It's not wasting any time, that's for sure.
32:01All right, this is the end of the line. This is for us.
32:04Now we're going to get on the train back into Copenhagen to Dubersport.
32:26All right, so explain this to me, Copenhagen.
32:30There's a line B, and there's a BX, which is the express of the B. That I get.
32:36But then we have E and A. Why are there two different lines?
32:42When E is effectively an express version of the A.
32:46Why isn't this called the AX?
32:49I can kind of understand the C and the H, because they go to different destinations.
32:56But A and E go to the same place. What's up with that?
33:00So if we're riding every rail line, do we have to take the A and the E?
33:04Because I'm not taking the BX, but I did take the B.
33:09That's for you to decide.
33:10Anyway, we're getting the E. That's the express train into town.
33:21And now we take this express train into the city.
33:32Hello, BX.
33:36Now we're switching to the C.
33:47This is one of the world's widest bicycle lanes.
33:51You can see how ridiculously wide it is.
33:54Two directions.
33:55And it's wider than the car lanes.
33:59In rush hour, this gets really, really busy.
34:03One of the times I stayed in Copenhagen, my hotel was just down there.
34:09Track 4-6.
34:12It's down here.
34:16And there's an IKEA right there next to the station.
34:18I love those urban IKEA stores that aren't out in the suburbs with a huge parking lot around it.
34:24They're easily accessible by public transit.
34:27And then you just get stuff delivered.
34:29So we're here.
34:30And we just got to go back up to here, where we were earlier, to get the bus to the
34:34zoo.
34:36Trains on both platforms.
34:38The A on this side, and what should be called the AX on that side.
34:52Those guys took the chance to get on the express, so they missed it.
34:58Well, they tell you where to stand if you get a bicycle.
35:01That's good.
35:02So that bike lane up there, that huge bike lane, connects to a very cool cycling bridge.
35:08I think it's called the Snake, because it, like, curves around that side of the IKEA.
35:15Which is why that bike lane needs to be so big, because there's a lot of people that come across
35:18there.
35:20All right, that's one more line.
35:22We'll be able to check off to see.
35:34Maybe we'll get to see peak bicycle time, because there's a lot of bicycles on here already.
35:40You know, it's only 10 bikes, and it takes up quite a lot of space.
35:44I mean, there's still space in between, though, I guess.

36:08We could have bought a regular day pass, but we decided to try out the Copenhagen card,
36:13which includes not only transit access for the entire region,
36:17but also free admission to lots of great tourist attractions in and around the city.
36:22We're probably not going to get our money's worth in this episode,
36:25as we'll spend way too much time riding trains.
36:28But since we've got it, I did want to check out the Copenhagen Zoo.
36:38It's important to have street lights here, because it gets dark really early in the winter.
36:43The sun's already starting to go down. It's only like, what, it's not even three o'clock yet.
36:55All right, we're on this for seven minutes. First bus of the day.
37:00Normally, we're on a lot more buses, but today is a very rail-focused day pass.
37:06All right, let's get off.
37:14Zoo! The Copenhagen Zoo.
37:24Those are going to be some chilly lions. They don't seem bothered by it.
37:30Oh yeah, he's having a meal over there. It's not often you can see polar bears up close.

38:15Anyway, we spent too much time looking at animals. We got to get a train.
38:20Okay, we've taken line C, but we haven't yet taken line H.
38:25Let's see how we do that. No matter what we do, we got to get to the train station.
38:29So let's work on that first.
38:34Now, in terms of taking the H, there's no H train on Wednesday.
38:40Service resumes Monday.
38:42Well, that means it's impossible for us to get the H train.
38:46I guess we're going to have to get the C. One of the things with Copenhagen is that
38:52when you look at it from a North American perspective, it seems a lot more achievable
38:56than the Netherlands. These streets don't look that different than what you'd see in
39:02a lot of U.S. or Canadian cities. And yet, there's still lots of people cycling.
39:18It's reasonably crowded for quarter to four.
39:28You know, not loving the bus that was stuck in traffic. Let's get back on the train.
39:34I think we got up one stop too early. We're getting here faster than the bus
39:38that's stuck in traffic. I think that's right.
39:44I think my hopes of riding every single line are dashed.
39:49Okay, I need to figure this out. This is bugging me. Okay, where does the H run to?
39:55It's totally duplicated by the C for 100% of its route. What's the point in even having it?
40:01It's so odd. Yeah, I don't understand why the H even exists. It's just a shorter version of the
40:09of the C. But as far as I can tell, it's just not running at all. So it just says
40:15no upcoming departures.
40:18Odd. The H train is not running this week. I think Copenhagen has finally admitted that
40:25they don't actually need the H train when they can just have the C. Well, since the H isn't running
40:31this week, my consolation prize is going to have to be the VX.
40:41Just one train line left to go and I think I know how we're going to do it.
40:57Oh my god, that's our train.
41:02Look at that. Not only do we get our last train to collect them all, it's a cross-platform transfer.
41:13And that's it. The last one we were missing, the A. Well, that worked out well.
41:19Of course, it's because they're both going to the same place.
41:24I'd like to think we scripted it. Yeah, right?
41:51And with that, we're back at Copenhagen Central Station. But there's one more thing I want to do
41:56before the end of the day to take advantage of our Copenhagen card. That was a solid day of riding
42:03transit. We traveled over 90 kilometers. We took every metro line, every train line,
42:09including the new LRT. Took a couple of buses and even a ferry. And we got to have lunch inside
42:17of a tram. After a long week of riding transit in three great cities in Europe, I'm ready to celebrate.
42:23We'll be back next season with even more great transit. But for now, no trip to Copenhagen would be
42:29complete without a visit to the world's only theme park directly across the street from a train station.
