00:00Fii-lo
00:10A presto
00:11A presto
00:12I can see video from different angles
00:13of Anton as he plays
00:17So this first demo
00:18what we have
00:19is like a virtual television set
00:22with a Playstation I
00:23just like we have set up here on stage
00:27So you can see
00:28Quando Anton moves the controller, the controller moves one-to-one, just as he moves.
00:33In order to let you see this better, Anton, if you can turn on the video on the television
00:37there, we're putting the PlayStation Eyes video on this virtual TV, so you can see
00:42as Anton moves, it moves exactly as he moves.
00:46This is true one-to-one tracking.
00:49This is the first time you've ever been able to do this, and we can show this better than
00:53anyone else, because we have the video from the PlayStation Eye.
00:58That racket is actually in the virtual world, it's in Anton's hand.
01:03Still hard.
01:08So, of course...
01:14Don't wait.
01:17So sports are kind of a no-brainer, but you can hold anything in your hand.
01:25I do want to point out, notice how fast he's tracking his motions.
01:30Alright, let's try this.
01:40You know, so...
01:43Weapons are always good.
01:46Especially large ones.
01:51So my son loves this demo, actually.
01:54You can imagine, he could be Ratchet, and he could hold Ratchet's weapons in his hand
01:59while he plays.
02:00He would die for that.
02:14Okay, we have a flashlight now.
02:17Notice we have true 3D pointing.
02:20He can move around and point from any position or angle here.
02:25Okay, the flashlight's pretty cool, but do you have anything with a little more firepower,
02:29maybe?
02:33A foam dart?
02:35Nice shot, though.
02:38I'm a firepower.
02:41Ah, now we're talking.
02:42Gold desert people.
02:44So, of course, the PlayStation, this new controller, and motion control in general,
02:49people have thought are more of a casual experience.
02:52And we expect very great casual experiences.
02:55But we also want to enable some more gamers games.
02:58We think that'll be a great use of this controller, too.
03:01So if you want to switch to first-person shooter mode,
03:04Anton can actually move around the room and point and shoot things.
03:16We learned from iToy that buttons are needed for some experiences.
03:21There are some experiences you can do without them,
03:24but some experiences there's just no other way to do.
03:26There's really no other way to do this without a trigger.
03:29It just wouldn't feel right.
03:33Okay, so let's see what...
03:34Anything else?
03:35There we go.
03:36One more thing.
03:41So, you can imagine the kind of special effects we can overlay with the video and the graphics here.
03:48Now, we're going to switch gears completely here.
03:53This next demo, it may look simple, but it's one of the hardest things to do precisely.
03:59Anton is effectively reaching into the scene,
04:03bridging the gap between the real and virtual worlds.
04:07This is the foundation for the ultimate sandbox.
04:10You can build anything in this.
04:12The game development is really excited about this because the possibilities are limitless here.
04:22Another thing that's really difficult to do in a virtual world is drawing.
04:27And in particular, writing requires extreme precision.
04:34The tip of that pencil Anton's using is being tracked at sub-millimeter accuracy.
04:52So, the pencil shows off the precision really well, but for something a little more artistic, Anton's going to move
04:58on to some more paintbrushes here.
05:00He's actually metering out the amount of paint that's being put on the canvas using the analog trigger right now.
05:06Nice.
05:12For something like a spray paint can, the angle actually matters of what he's doing here.
05:16Ooh, dripping right down the wall there.
05:18Nice.
05:21First, you know, if you just want to mess around.
05:24You can do that too.
05:26So, drawing is a kind of fundamental capability, but it doesn't have to be used literally.
05:34You can use it instead to say the layout of half the objects.
05:42I'll help it out.
05:44You know, you can all try again.
05:46Later.
05:50Other things that use drawing are selection.
05:53Selection is one of the keys to something like a real-time strategy game.
05:57Finally, we have an interface on a console that lets us do real-time strategy.
06:01Here you can see Anton's lassoing troops, and then he draws a path for them to follow.
06:11You can imagine using this for other kinds of games, like football.
06:14You can draw out the route for a wide receiver to follow.
06:24Blurring the lines between RTS and first-person shooter here.
06:27We already showed first-person shooter once, Anton.
06:29Well, it's always cool.
06:32All right.
06:33Anton's going to set up the next demo.
06:35And we're going to shift gears here a little bit.
06:36We're going to step out of our room here and move into a virtual arena.
06:42We're going to show you some character control, actually.
06:45So as you can see here, my motions are mapped directly onto the character.
06:49When I move my sword and shield, he moves them exactly as I do.
06:54Hey, everybody.
06:57Of course, this is no good if you can't hit anything.
07:01So we've all seen lots of demos of swords and shields before, but the kind of precision
07:06Anton's getting here with the tip of that sword is just crazy.
07:11Tickle, tickle, tickle.
07:15First, we can do all the standard moves.
07:17We can throw up high, low, sweep, hit high.
07:21And this is one of my favorites.
07:40You can also use it in a defensive posture, too.
07:50Now, this is a little bit different.
07:51Now, we've shown you, you can see one-to-one Anton's hands moving, and the virtual hands
07:55move exactly as he does.
07:59You can point and throw.
08:01No problem.
08:01You can reach around an enemy that's coming at you.
08:03He's going behind the back.
08:06Really do anything you want with this.
08:15Now, we're going to finish off with everyone's favorite in our lab's interface here.
08:20is the archery mechanic.
08:22He reaches behind his back, pulls out an arrow, and knocks it.
08:36First, the tension on the street matters.
08:38All right, so the farther I pull it back, the more power I'm going to launch into this guy.
08:44All right, great.
08:45Call the shot.
08:46Farthest guy on the right there.
08:49Gangster style, yeah.
08:54All right, let's see if I can.
09:00All right.
09:00Let's do something a little more dramatic.
09:09All right, last shot.
09:11Last shot.
09:11All right.
09:13If you can't see here, Anton's actually dropping down to one knee, Robin Hood style.
09:17Let's finish this last shot.
09:19Camera has no problems.
