39:20Also, he's on conditions of release from a prior felony.

39:24He's getting released from court, so he has conditions that he has to abide by.
39:26One of those being to obey all state and federal laws, driving revoked criminally, not obeying
39:33that law.
39:34So he's going to be remanded on those charges, and he'll have a $1,000 bail, and he's going
39:40to get his vehicle towed.
39:41I don't think he was very happy with our public service today, but not everyone is, so it's
39:46okay.
40:01So today, if he's going to the governor's office, he's going to be presenting myself
40:06and another trooper with an award for saving lives.
40:10We're going to honor two people today.
40:12I'm immensely proud to recognize their outstanding bravery.
40:16And these separate instances that saved the lives of two men, two Alaskans, are here today
40:20because of their efforts.
40:23A person was actively drowning in a lake.
40:27Pulled up, and I can see a person out in the water fighting for their life.
40:32Without hesitation, Trooper Stevens removed his duty gear and spread it to the water's
40:37head.
40:38This water is freezing cold.
40:40I started thinking, I have kids at home.
40:42I have a wife.
40:43Am I going to go through with this?
40:47And then you start thinking about this person being a Alaska State Trooper.
40:50It's my job to help and protect him.
40:53And I immediately just started swimming out to him.
40:57I'm exerting all of my energy to get us back.
41:00You got a kick, man.
41:01He was just in such bad shape that he wasn't able to really do anything.
41:06So I put him on his back, kept his head afloat, and I got us back.
41:11Without Trooper Stevens' intervention, the team would have died.
41:13His actions exemplify valor, self-sacrifice, and the highest traditions of the Alaska State
41:19Troopers.

41:31Not only the chance to meet the governor, but be presented an award, but I'm very honored
41:36to be one of the select few to actually put this uniform on every day.

41:48We move from the lifesaving, and then we go back to work.
41:52There's something within, I think, every trooper that is this drive and this want to protect
41:57and help other people.
